    For the best ride feeling, the Ram wins it easily, I have to wait and see how reliable the new Hurricane engine will be on the Ram

  • @tgilldesign
    @tgilldesign Před 2 měsíci +14

    The new RAM with the Hurricane engine does perform nicely - I drove a 2025 the other day - in the end, I chose a Ford F150 with 3.5 Ecoboost. Why? The Ford products use BOTH Port and Direct Injection - so that the PORT injection washes the back of the intake valves with fuel and effectively keeps the valves from accumulating hardened Carbon deposits - which is a problem with Direct Injection Only engines such as the RAM employs. Over time, Direct Injection only will result in crusty Carbon buildup on the backside of the intake valves, which has been shown over countless car manufacturers to negatively impact performance, fuel economy, and engine idling. Ford takes the extra step and cost of including a dual injection system, with the PORT injection situated above the intake valves, utilized to keep the valves clean and the engine and fuel economy running at optimal performance over the long run.
    Ram's Hurricane engine is relatively new to the Chrysler/Jeep/RAM lineup. It has only been out for 2 years utilized in the Jeep Grand Wagoneer..... and there aren't many of those sold and on the road to give an accurate feel of reliability with any confidence. The version of Hurricane utilized in the RAM trucks is indeed NEW, because it is tuned and some internal parts are different than the Jeep version, and tailored for the RAM. So, in my mind..... if you buy a 2025 RAM truck with the Hurricane engine.... you are a guniea pig for this new engine..... never a good idea to be a first adopter of a new vehicle period - especially when a new engine/drivetrain are introduced. There are always bugs that take at least 3 model cycles to work out.
    As an example: Ford's 3.5 eco boost had timing chain failures and cam phaser failures in it's introductory configuration..... they didn't redesign a 'fix' for these problems until the 2nd generation of the engine, which was 3 years (if I am not mistaken) after it was first introduced. I wouldn't touch a Gen 1 series 3.5 Ecoboost with a 10 foot pole. However, the timing chains were redesigned, as was the cam phaser, and now those issues have been reportedly remedied, and you rarely see owners of the new Generation Engine reporting issues with it.

    I’d go for the Ford, most American in my opinion. GM builds some of the Silverados and engines in Mexico. RAM motors are sourced out of Mexico. I think all the F150’s are assembled in the USA. Even all the Rangers are assembled in the USA. So for that Ford gets my money 😎🇺🇸

    • @OutdoorCanadians

    • @hochhaul
      @hochhaul Před měsícem +1

      Most GM V8's are built at their Tonawanda plant in New York state. Most of their crew cab half-tons are built in Indiana. All GM midsize trucks built in Missouri with engines from Tennessee. All GM HD trucks in Michigan and Duramax engines in Ohio. Ford's high output 3.5EB is made in Mexico. Raptors have only like 50% domestic content last time I looked. The 6.7 Powerstroke plant is in Mexico.

    • @hochhaul
      @hochhaul Před měsícem

      @OutdoorCanadians like the F-150 powerboost with the heat exchanger on the exhaust that leaks coolant because they couldn't resist the urge to make a big part of it plastic and it warps and leaks (who would have thought!). Or their updated 5.0 and 2.7 ecoboost with oil pump belts that require removing timing chains to change it. Turns into a huge expense because they couldn't resist routing the belt in the worst way possible.

For me, buying a 1/2 ton is about the function of towing a small camper and hauling camping gear with the potential of having a slightly larger camper in a few years, so it is about payload. I would like to have north of 1800 lbs of payload. From an aesthetics perspective, I am 61 and chrome belongs in the 1970s! ;) In this test, I would choose the F150. If I were ordering my own truck, I prefer the exterior lines and interior trim of the Ram 1500 if I could get it with 1800 lbs of payload. Ultimately, I could be happy with any of these trucks (I am not brand loyal) and it would come down to price and value.

    I noticed the side mirrors on the f150 are alot smaller (less visibility), i think the chevy is ugly exterior wise, i like the dash and cluster of the chevy and ford. I know ram has issues with the rear window leaks, unless they finally resolved it. I like the looks of the ram best, then f150, chevy is ugly, for 60k you get an LT with a bench seat and 17" wheels, no fog lights....these trucks should only be 40-50 grand tops! But unfortunately like everything else in this country right now, prices are inflated.

    I don’t trust modern GM vehicles, so if I’m purchasing, I’m starting swaying from it. On a lease, the Silverado leases out the best (even if barely). The last time I tested the F-150, which was 2 weeks ago, we felt the tech was gimmicky. It was like driving a rolling iPhone. I might gamble and go with the Ram. They seem to have very comfortable rides for what I’d use it for and while I’ve been wary of the quality of some Stellantis products, everyone I know who has owned a RAM over the last 10 years has had no real major problems. In reality, I’d only go Toyota, of of the American 3, let’s pretend RAM is American and I’ll go with them.
