About Perfect Dark:
Perfect Dark is a first-person shooter developed by Rare and was launched on the Nintendo 64 game console. It was built using a modified version of the GoldenEye 007 engine. Perfect Dark was released May 22, 2000 on the N64 and was subsequently released on the Game Boy Color August 2000. It is considered one of the most advanced games built for the Nintendo 64 featuring high-resolution graphics and Dolby Surround Sound. The game launched with big commercial success selling more than three million units worldwide. This led to the development of many more properties for the Perfect Dark series including a prequel as well as novels, comic books and other merchandise.
Gameplay:
The game features a single-player mode with seventeen missions as well as multiplayer options. Perfect Dark is a first-person shooter where players control agent Joanna Dark through seventeen missions to stop a conspiracy led by dataDyne corporation. The gameplay is very similar to it’s predecessor, GoldenEye 007. In game, players can move through levels by crouching, ducking and leaning. Players have access to a vast range of weapons including: Handguns, Rifles, Submachine Guns, a Shotgun, Rocket Launchers, Combat Knives, Grenade Launchers, Various Explosives and Several Extraterrestrial Weapons. Players can carry an unlimited amount of weapons which have a primary and secondary mode for using the weapon in different ways as melee weapons.
Players must complete certain objectives to pass each level. There are three difficulty settings for each level which will affect aspects of the objectives to complete. If all levels are completed on highest difficulty, players can unlock a setting titled “Perfect Dark” in which players can customize many aspects of abilities.
There are three multiplayer systems including: Co-operative mode, Counter Operative mode and Combat Simulator. In Cooperative mode, two players or one player with many computer can complete missions together. In Counter Operative mode, one player plays the missions as Joanna while the other player plays the enemy to try to stop Joanna from completing the missions. In Combat Simulator, players enter the game unarmed with weapons and ammunition being placed around the map. In Combat Simulator, there are different scenarios including: deathmatch mode, capture the flag or king of the hill, hold the briefcase and hacker central.
Transcript:
Joanna Dark was born into a tough life. Her mother died shortly after childbirth and Joanna grew up with terrible spinal damage that required extensive experimental procedures.
Thinking that wasn't enough for a young kid to handle, Joanna's father Jack Dark, began training her for his line of work at age seven: fighting, firearms, and tracking criminals; everything a bounty hunter needed to know. Joanna didn’t socialize well growing up and spent most of her time in virtual reality training programs like DeathMatchVR, creating the most beautiful and socially awkward female lead since Zooey Deschanel put on a yellow sun dress.
On Joanna's first field mission, her father is killed, further scarring the tortured yet angelic killer. During this tragic event she is also introduced to and employed by the Carrington Institute, quickly becoming their top agent. Secretly, the Carrington Institute has been working with an alien race known as the Maians who have been at war with the lizard-like extraterrestrials called the Skedar. The Skedar disguise themselves on Earth as Scandinavians and are also discreetly working with the human organization dataDyne, the same company responsible for the DeathMatchVR programs Joanna grew up with.
Now codenamed, "Perfect Dark", Joanna is given a mission to rescue a defector from dataDyne, all the while uncovering a sinister conspiracy. Have fun!

Perfect Dark N64 has to be the best shooter I've ever played in my short 20 years of gaming. Beat the campaign, challenges and played the hell out that local multiplayer mode with friends and family. We still played it two years ago with friends from college in one of our drunken nostalgia nights.

I wouldn't put this "M". The only reason it got the rating was because of language. Other than that, it was a better version of Goldeneye gameplay-wise.

This was never a Nintendo game though. And if you mean there should be more Mature exclusives on Nintendo consoles, theres plenty on the Wii U (hell, Bayonnetta 2 is the best exclusive rated M theres been in years).

Didn't Rare publish this game themselves. The only Nintendo published games developed in house that comes to mind is Eternal Darkness and Geist.

Perfect Dark is imo even better than GoldenEye on the N64.
Perfect Dark Zero however...
Makes sense. Perfect Dark is basically Goldeneye 2. It's clearly the same game, only with the gameplay concepts refined (as you'd expect in a sequel), and the original bond IP stuff removed and replaced with a different setting of Rare's own devising. Which of course means you are free of a lot of the limitations of the old bond setting.
You can see this most clearly by the fact that several of Goldeneye's multiplayer levels were copied directly into the multiplayer of perfect dark. (Some of the textures are a tiny bit different, but the levels are identical)

The way I see it, there are two sets of lore for Perfect Dark.
One is the war between Maians and Skedar, and how DataDyne and CI are proxies for them.
The other is more personal and about Joanna's backstory.

This video seems out of nowhere for me. I hadn't heard of Perfect Dark, though I played its predecessor Golden Eye 007. The remastered version came out in 2010ish according to the internet. Why Perfect Dark in 2015? I must be missing something, or I assumed too much when I thought Lore only did recent games or recently popular ones as a mutually beneficial thing.
It wasn't a remaster, a reimagining of goldeneye, and it sucked hard.

How come there's no music? You could have used the iconic Perfect Dark opening tune and for the end used one of the many unique themes from Perfect Dark. Sorry if it sounds like I'm nitpicking, I still liked the video.
Hold on, that's contradictory. Joanna's bio in the first game said she had lots of training but no experience. But Perfect Dark Zero is supposed to be a prequel? How could there be a prequel if she had no experience in the first game?

It seems such from the outside. Once you actually start playing the game, it's laughably cheesy and straightforward. Which is kinda part of its charm.

I guess they're just really similar.
They actually had golden eye's "the facility" (level 2 of the single player) as a multiplayer map for perfect dark, but they spelled it "The Falicity" or something like that
They also had the complex and the temple from Golden Eye.
