He produced 'Secret Name' by Low. One of my favorite albums of all time.

Albini seemed to think that if a recording was not sonically unpleasant on the ears it was not "art" and was "selling out". One of my absolute favorite bands birthed in the 1990's was Failure. Albini produced Comfort. It is literally painful to listen to. I never play it. And it has nothing to do with the quality of the songs themselves. Compare it to the band's next release, Magnified. That one is a sonic pleasure. Even though many of the songs are just as dark, dissonant and "ugly".

Ya, I'm not a fan of his sonic style, but he was spot-on in his stance for artists. Appreciate your comment and view! 👍

@@TalkLinkMusic-gd7fz I totally agree with his stance on the industry too.

The question is for the band, did they band make the record they wanted or the record Albini wanted.

@@sandpiper9288 1st check out Peter Sotos and his zine "Pure". Then check out Albini's review of it. Then look at the album Buyer's Market that Albini worked on with Sotos. I heard there was some messed up stuff in his tour diary, last BB tour i believe, i have not checked for this myself yet cause i went down a Sotos rabbit hole, now im kind of tired of this shit.
So it turns out that a lot of artists I like are alsp into Sotos. I get some of it, but the CP stuff, plus the way Albini wrote about it, doesn't sound like his usual edgelord shit. But I don't think we'll never know what the real story was... It just really doesn't look good.

I used to hate on Pearl Jam so much because they were too commercial. I liked Soundgarden's music the most of all the Seattle bands. Yes, I know that Soundgarden was very commercial at one period. I respected Nirvana for being cool and uncompromising. Now at 45 years old I love Pearl Jam's music and respect the hell out of them. They've developed quite a career and now they can pretty much do whatever they want. Kurt and Chris are dead.

Soundgarden's "radio friendly" songs were simply better, IMO, than PJ's "radio friendly" songs. I also put PJ at the bottom and Soundgarden at the top of the Seattle Big 4 back in the day. But have learned over the intervening years that PJ has some very good deep cuts on some of their albums.
