      What could airports do to help blind people passively navigate the airport?

    • @jonmclaughlin4128
      @jonmclaughlin4128 Před 6 měsíci +1

      @@moufbreava that is a really good question. The problem for passive navigation is that airports tend to be enormous open spaces so, what I would want in an airport is more walls but, now that I think about it, that’s probably not a possibility since I assume the reason everything is open anyway is for fire code and how do you get 20,000 people out of a building that size? in a big hurry?

    • @moufbreava
      @moufbreava Před 6 měsíci

      @jonmclaughlin4128 could they potentially have a textured pathway to lead you to a tactile map to guide you to where you need to go? Also is there some sort a digital braille display they could put in so you could get up to date info about you flight aswell

    • @jonmclaughlin4128
      @jonmclaughlin4128 Před 6 měsíci

      @@moufbreava textured floor markings would actually be a pretty good idea. The braille would probably not be such a great idea since it’s expensive to have electronic braille and only something like 20% of blind people can read braille. It would work for me but probably not have as much utility as you would hope.

    I love the way the lady asked you how you want to be guided. She definitley meant well when she asked about your cane. I think she just didn't know..that's all.

    I am a blind guy and I have never used an airport by myself. It gives me the most stress and worry being at an airport as there are so many people, noises and distractions / obstacles for me to cope with. I just don't have the confidence to travel like that on my own at an airport. I wish i had your confidence man!

      Wait, if you're blind, then how did you write that comment? Better yet, how did you watch the video? Did you just listen to the sound? How did you even find the video to begin with?

    Thank you for making this! People don't realize how horrible it can be for disabled people. I don't fly myself and I'm not gonna lie, this is one of the reasons why.

    It was good that she let you grab the elbow and walked in front. I suppose she just thought you might not want to still be holding the Caine while she was guiding.

    I can't remember if it was in Pearson or Vancouver on the way to my next flight when I had to wait for close to an hour for an airport employee to be available to guide me to my next gate. It was my first time flying as a visually impaired person, and it bummed me out to be stuck in one spot, not able to get to a washroom, and missing out on all the airport wandering that has formerly played such a big part in my travel adventuring experience. I jmostly just wanted to take a photo of a large penguin statue in front of one of the airport banking centres, and I couldn't even do that. :(

    airports have accommodations, sure. but they require someone to come and help you with said accommodations. e.g. I can't walk, so I need someone to get ANOTHER wheelchair for me because a regular wheelchair won't fit in the aisle. that alone takes them like 20 minutes of just waiting there waiting for someone to come.

    I hate airports, I am legally blind. Few months ago After a long wait do to covid. I was officially marryied, Yeah Me and my beautiful Now and forever wife. BUT wait put the breaks on< Honeymoon... 10 days in las Vegas Nevada... Flying from east coast to west coastiss. night mare from the start and wait there is more.. with all the lackluster help. they put us on the wrong flight. I feel your pain and would not wish this on my worst enemy.

      After being redirected in getting to Vegas and spending ten glorious days there. We thought of the Pains of getting here and that we were going through the same things. But it was a complete opposite. As soon as I walked in someone walked right up to me and ask the help they got me through TSA with a real real real weird thing that they wanted to test my hands for any bomb-making devices. But we got a direct flight right back to the East Coast and that experience was amazing go for a 50/50 shot at airports being good or bad.
