👍😍I love ginger. I found this video about a year ago & started making it. I love it & have shared it with other people because it’s so easy. Thanks for sharing your knowledge & know how. 💞
Making Ginger Bug for the first time! Can’t wait!
Love fermentation! I was in San Fran last year and you couldn't move without coming across something delicious that had been fermented. Love this idea and will definitely be trying. xxx
+Crumbs Food Nice one. Keep us updated. :D
This stuff is awesome. I keep a bug going and make fermented lemonade every week. I have 2 gallons going at any one time. I drink it every day and I haven't had heartburn in 2 months. It's not boozy so no buzz lol. Thank you guys!
When you totally change out the used up ginger? I know that I can grow a new batch, but I'd like to keep this healthy bug going like a sour dough starter.
How do you prevent it from foaming?
Best series!
I have been looking at ginger bug vids for the last two hours then found this! I know that you guys would offer the best version so great to see this. Would love to see more video's on how to make other drinks with the bug - especially hibiscus drinks! Thank you for sharing this!
I look forward to making this!
Wow! I had no idea. There is so much to learn.
"I Live to Ferment" - Love it

I started my first Ginger Bug monday night and just went checking on it: It almost jumped right at me and was ready to go! 👍 Now on to step two, prepare the lemonade!
This was the best video on making the ginger bug! Thank you for making it crystal clear, step-by-step, and easy! :)
I LOVE THIS VIDEO! Thank U so much!
Yaaaaaa, I'm glad, thanks!
Making this right now! Day 1, it's nice and bubbly 😊

A 4 year update?
This white witch has a new fan! Thank you for the awesome video, heading out to find some ginger now!
Wooo! Thanks a mill for your support Dana!! 👍😄
Why do you day white witch?
White witch?
Nice and simple explanation. It’s just like a sourdough starter or a yogurt starter. I will be making this now since I have a huge ginger root chilling on my counter (leftover from a hot sauce pepper mash ferment). Thanks guys!
I just love it, at the mo I'm making beer / wine / ginger beer, now this has led me onto your video, so I'll give this a try as think home made is so much better in many ways. Thanks
My ginger ale / beer is very good, we love it. I've reused my bug three times so far. Adding sugar and ginger...
I love the way the brown sugar looks.
Wahoo!!! 😄👍🙌
Look lovely am going to try.. Thanks🍋🍋🍋
thxs u all! I've made it n is soooo good!
Omg ! I love this♥️
I love all your recipes. You guys are great hosts and funny too. If next time I go to Ireland I will stop at any of your places...perhaps all of them. Let me see, you have more than one coffee shop, grocery store and a restaurant. Am I right?
I just started mine yesterday and OMG I had little bubbly foam, and bubbles at the top...this is going to be awesome... p.s. you two have beautiful personalities:)
thank you I love it!!
This was so interesting and insightful - thank you guys and thank you April for sharing your knowledge! :)
+The Silverspies Journal April really blew our minds with her knowledge.
My ginger bug is nice and bubbly now :) have done it last year too, but a slightly different method by adding freshly grated ginger, sugar & water daily. This method is so much easier, thanks guys!
You're brill, love it!! 😄😋🙌
My gug is growing up nicely and I love it!! I'm totally moving on to a scoby...summer is gonna be lit with ganja kombucha....kombanja. Or maybe I'll call it maribucha.

+Aron Braggans It's so easy and very good for your gut
I'll try this! healthy bacteria for my gut always a good idea!
It's always a god thing. We're getting so big into fermenting at the moment. Trying to make coconut yogurt.
I will try this too. This is heathy ❤❤❤
Thank you for a great vid! Can you tell me how to manage the ginger bug for the next use? Do I continue to use the original ginger or discard and use fresh ginger with old liquid? Thanks!
I love this I made this before and I am certainly love it and I love them through food and then begin an organic nine love fermenting would also like to make kombucha I ferment my cheese
Great video thank you!
Cheers Todd!!! 😄😋🙌
sweet video... Thanks lots. :)
That's geenius 😍
Interesting, never heard of it before x
Yummy very good and refreshing.
Delighted you enjoyed Greg! 🙌🙌😄
Sweet. I get heartburn and my doctor said I could use lactic acid and lactobacillus to help with that because it will even out the acid I my gut. I love me some lemonade and I like ginger. I might catch a buzz from it too and that's a plus lol. I got some ginger I shall start a bug tomorrow.
Sweet thank you
Thanks nice video
Happy pear, I like watching this video how persevere ginger outing
Brown sugar and water
thxs for the info! shall I be storing the bug in the fridge or at room temperature if I'm not using it?
And by the way, the white bits (white film) floating on top of the bug. should I scoop it out and throw it or stir it back in? is this safe?
I am fermenting every veggie I eat, and that means many kind of things! I NEVER EVER used sugar, because there are normally some sugar in the veggies that will start the fermentation. Even chili will ferment! I always use a salt brine to fermentation.
One of the best videos you've ever done! The instructions are easy and well explained - I love the knowledgeable lady there laying out all the facts for you and I'll be checking her out for sure :) Very informational video :) Thanks!
Brill delighted you enjoyed! 😄👍🙌💚
I love this series idea! I've always wanted to try fermented foods. I recently seen a recipe for fermented pickles with intrigued me to try more fermented foods ^.^
+Lisa Morass They're so good for your body.
Good one!
Cheers! 😄👍🙌
This looks great! How long do you keep the cut ginger/lemons for after the week and you have consumed the drink? Can it be re used or is it better to start a fresh? Thanks. :)
Love it! How long can I reuse the ginger bug before I change the ginger in it? And when I do, do I just transfer some ginger bug water to a fresh jar of ginger and feed?
The yeast produces alcohol; while LAB yields lactic acid in an anaerobic environment. I would at least cover the jar with a towel to prevent mold from entering.
I stopped watching after that
Beer bottles with European fasteners can easily gotten by buying Grolsch beer at about 2 dollars per bottle. If you like the beer, then the bottle is free. If you like the bottle, then the beer is free.
I’ve been making this for years. However, I use honey. Whatever water you use, do not use tap water. The chlorine will kill the process.
@ Chris Green, hi! Would you be so kind and help me with a doubt? It's the first time I am doing ginger bug, it's the third day and the liquid looks like slime it is ok? Thanks
@Yash Rocky thank you, but it's part of the process that liquid turns like slime?
Oooh. I have been chopping ginger and preserving it in honey with a little lemon for tea. How do u do this with honey,?
Do you peel the ginger ? I love this thanks ! God bless
WOW 😍 very nice April ❤️💋😍 and delicious Ginger - greeting from Germany 💋
Ah, 2 lemons, a good handful of of grated ginger, 5-6 Tb white sugar, add 3/4 of the ginger bug and top off with clean water.Stir, put the lid on and let sit for 3-7 days. When it has the taste that you like strain and discard the lemon/ginger pieces and enjoy.
I imagine this would also be good for nausea, stomach bugs, and treating sore throats.
Absolutely! 😄👍
Awesome! How big is the jar with the mother? And when do i have to replace the ginger?
Made fermented drink for about a two months amazing was wondering when to stop using the ginger in the jar do they expire?
Was wondering that too.. Off to more videos, I did transfer my bug into a clean jar with fresh ginger, some bug and a bit of the original ginger, just in case...
Thank you so much for the video. Can I use organic brown sugar and organic jaggery? Please advise ..
I knew I heard a Canadian east coast accent. Had to stalk her to prove myself right! :)
I like your video 📹♥
Wonderful thank u! How long does the mother bug last? How do u know when to throw the whole thing away and start the bug again?

Hello Happy Pear and April, I reviewed and tried many ginger bug methods. This is the one that worked best for me. I want to thank you very much !! Super cool for having a homemade soda drink full of probiotics and tastes pretty good!
I would need to adjust the bitterness ... I would add less citrus to the mix. First time I tried the recipe it was the best and I followed the suggestions from April step by step ... then, in the second and third intention it became quite bitter, I tried with orange and grapefruit instead of lemon in these last two, but I thinks I added to much. Anyway, even bitter, they were great ... effervescent, fresh, I love to drink this and I feel well! Thanks April, I admire that you and would love to meet you if I lived a little closer, writing from Buenos Aires, greetings! saludos!
Something I've not seen mentioned here is that since this is a fermentation, don't you risk explosion by not burping it at least daily or by using a lid with a fermentation lock?
Hi I'm new to the ginger bug and was wondering could I just make ginger tea with sugar put the ginger bug in it and make ginger ale.
hello. thank you for your video. just wanna ask, I now have a week old Ginger bug, but It doesnt have any bubbles, its just foggy and very slimy.. is is normal? 😞
It finally worked and I loved it , can I use oranges instead of lemons? Hope you will answer me
Woohoo, fair play! It's all about persistence + experimentation with fermentation. YES - you can use oranges instead of lemons. Happy fermenting! 😊😊
Thank you for your answer!!!!!
I would love to try this. Would coconut sugar work to make the ginger bug?
Aprils' youtube channel is The Natural Rebel
Healthier if you use Sucanat, which is the rawest form of sugar.
Hi I've finally made a good ginger bug using this method. So much easier than adding grated ginger every day. My jug is only 1.5 litres so I reduced the lemon by half and didn't add as much of the ginger bug. Does this sound about right?
Thank you..can I have it..as I am diabetic
Should I keep it in the fridge after it´s ready? Or in the case I want to keep it for a couple of weeks without using it?
I made the Ginger bug and then the Gingerade. I need a bit of advice- my Gingeraid had a layer of Mold on the top. I left the lemons and the ginger in the jug. Please advise! Happy Fermenting :]
👍👍
Love this series! I am wondering what size jar the bug is started in??
Looks like 1 qt
Does it ferment better in a dark place? I notice some people have it in a dark pantry with the light off. I was wondering if I could possibly put it outside in the sun?
I've made ginger covered in honey with a little lemon juice. Do I cap it or not? Some gas is developing. How long will it be shelf stable? Thanks
Hey Guys,
I think my Ginger-Bug should be ready, but the ginger-fluid is very thick.
is that OK? It doesn't really look thick in the video in your finished Ginger-Bug.
P.S.
you guys are making my day - every day.
That's ok Martin! They all come out a little bit different, just play around with it and see how it goes! 😊😊
Anyone have a link to April Danann stuff ? be nice to only hear her without interruption
Yes, hush up and let the woman talk. Then ask all the questions that she has not already addressed.
kermets
Look up "the natural rebel"
Or even just her name on CZcams will bring up her fairly new/unused channels. I'd like to see more of her aswell. czcams.com/video/8gZJJuQ22n0/video.html
Those two ruined the video, I can’t tell what’s them saying stuff that she just said wasn’t true or what’s what, they are too fidgety and don’t understand it still... like kindergartners
Thanks so much for the links guys......
typical youtube did not notify me about these replies until Derek,
thanks again.......
Rather than discarding a small amount of water each day and adding some new, can I just start off with a large enough jar to only add water/sugar gradually? How would this affect the process, if at all?
Love your videos btw! Keep up the good work guys!
+El Tee It doesn't really work that way unfortunately.
I had some problem starting it and found out adding a bit of lemon juice helps, the acid help the bacteria to start growing.
The acid keeps the wrong kind of bacteria from growing so the good stuff can get a foot-hold.
I'm pretty sure yest only produces ethanol.
and also low ph levels will kill the yeast so adding in the lemon near the end of the production will help kill the yeast while leaving the ethanol and still getting a lemon flavour
Jesus jim
yeast also produce CarbonDioxide.
Can you keep the same ginger alive for a year or how often do you need to throw out the original ginger and start a new batch? Thank you, excellent video!
I've seen videos where people have had their ginger bug for over a year and still use it so difficult to answer, it should (and this is based on what I've seen in videos) last at
least a couple months as long as there aren't any signs of mold etc but it might still be a good idea to switch it out every couple batches you use just to keep things fresh.
Can you also do this to make kanbucha tea
I keep watching this from time to time as I forget the recipe and everytime it's annoying me how he keeps interupting her and on occasions doesn't even listen to her and ask about something she has just mentioned few seconds ago.
Is boiling the ginger not necessary? and does the bottle not erupt from all the gases? I am curious how you're able to safely do this. I had to bottle my version in a plastic bottle and I burped it a few times a day. At one point it exploded. Maybe I'm missing something.
Chelsea Pyne did you watch the video?
