  • Two pieces of gear are critical to quickly getting on target at extended ranges: (1) A weather meter that can provide you with accurate environmental measurements and (2) A reliable ballistic calculator that can take data about your rifle, cartridge, weather, and range to target to calculate a ballistic solution. The Kestrel Elite (5700) is the latest Kestrel Flagship model that combines the functionality and features of a top end portable weather meter and a ballistic calculator that has the Litz bullet library with custom drag curves and the Applied Ballistics solver. The 6.5 Guys take a brief look at this new piece of gear and discuss some of the reasons you may want to consider getting one.

I just purchased one of these myself, they seem to be very accurate as far as the dope data received... This paired up with my Leica 1600B, I feel like nothing within reason is untouchable... Very good products.

I use the shooter app and recently purchased the 5700ab, had the same issue with my wind calls (about 0.2 mil off at 1000). I went through all the settings and found my shooter app had the spin drift off. I discovered shooter needs bullet length and rifle twist for it to calculate, i did not have bullet length entered so it was not calculating. After i added it they matched. Make sure you adjust for direction to the target when shooting long range.

You probably already know but it's not a special batt. Kestrel recommends AA lithium but you can run alkaline AA.

Correct - We also recommend using a lithium battery in the Kestrel.

Thank you for the video. I have the first AB kestrel, is it worth the upgrade to the new one?

I think it is worth upgrading. The Elite has bluetooth that is 100% compatible with iPhones and the ballistic apps, also the LiNK functionality is built in and is compatible with products that have the LiNK functionality such as the new range finders that can communicate with it. The screen has a finer resolution so it displays more info and the UI is better. Additionally, it has the ability to use AB's custom drag curves in calculation of ballistic solutions.

Have you upgraded to the Sig Kilo 2400 or are you still using the Kestrel?
