Thanks for the shoutout Jorphdan! Welcome to anyone looking for more info about Planegea and we hope we can help you on your next prehistoric adventure!
I wanna know how he got a high enough resolution image to map a poster map with. The official one is a pretty low resolution jpeg
turns out reddit has our backs in this department. On the official reddit someone posted a high rez version
@@sentor98 glad you found that! I'm actually the person who posted that there too haha
HAVOC!
Wow I've playing D&D for 40+ years now and I have to say this is one of the coolest and by far the most imaginative settings I've ever seen!
Agreed!
"and really I got that idea from 10,000 BC, which is a movie by Roland Emerich - and I don't recommend that for human viewing." I literally cackled hahaha
Checks out. I mean, the book kind of opens with the author’s story of 10,000 BC inspiring the entire setting.
Even he didn’t expect he’d ever see the movie again though 😄
Gods being restricted to their Hallows makes travel really exciting. Anywhere you go you'll have immediate plot hooks, enemies, allies, and more
I’m running a DCC campaign based on this premise. It’s been amazing
All hail the Worldheart Dragon, Ur-Mother, Dreamer of Existence, Origin of All Things
I enjoy all of Jorphdan videos
I really dig Planegea. It’s the kind of creative weird that fires up the imagination.
This whole series is just fantastic. Thank you so much for sharing the setting, Jorphdan!
woo!
The Cavemaster himself!
@@Jorphdan We've been celebrating these in the planegea discord lol.
"..and I don't recommend that for human viewing.", sounds like the Goblins got a new movie for movie night!
If you watch that movie will you have to continually make saving throws or take Int damage.
The Fang of Shadow and Thunder, I think we found the name of someone's metal cover band 😎.
there's no metal in the setting, but they're probably fans of... ROCK MUSIC
LOL
That area is one I want to explore.
@@jack1spade 😀
This is a really interesting setting, and I'm so glad I found this video. Thank you.
I've been running a 10-week prequel game for an all goblins party ending in 2 more games and I've been workshopping where to take the setting ultimately on completion and this week I decided it's gonna be planegea, I've been loving the videos covering it. EXCITED to initiate the end of the beginning tomorrow and get the story rolling towards this destiny!
That's exciting! Let us know how it goes in the Planegea discord or subreddit. In the Planegea setting there's a goblin settlement behind the Unfalls in the city of Edgegather, although of course your party can go anywhere. Clans respect strength and usefulness above kinship (aka race.)
Once again the plane of shadows gets the short end of the stick just because it is shadowy. This is way before the plane even got corrupted so it really should be like its counterpart.
Well, the plane of shadow is still there. Its coterminous with the realm of dreams. Dreaming and nightmare are both in the world and has its own distinct spin on things. So it isn't JUST the plane of shadow, but a thematically similar place with its own spin.
Wait, its okay! The World of Nightmares gets a TON of coverage. Three major factions, a constant war for the throne, relationships with outside factions, and more. Trust me, if you're looking for a satisfying treatment of the Shadowfell, you'll find it here
@@radio_liminoid now I am interested. It sounds like it would go really well with the Fang of Shadow and Lightning or a campaign that heavily explores and develops that area.
I got my book on monday and absolutely love it! I now have 2 almost finished character sheets, now hopefully someday I'll get to play them in this wonderful setting.
I think it would be cool if the elves had giant cities dotted around a Stone Age setting. We always encounter elves as a dying race in most settings, why not have them at the height of there power during a Stone Age setting?
They're in a strange not of this world state here. They aren't in their collapse or their downfall, but somewhere in their first forming.
looks like a nicely developed setting ! thank you for reviewing and sharing :)
This one looks really cool to me. Not a 5e guy, but I've thought about using Basic Roleplaying, or using it as a world for my DCC PCs to get sent to if things go really south for them.
I think it would work well with DCC!
I miss your Forgotten Realms lore videos. I understand it might not get as many views as the other stuff you post, but your lore videos are some of the best ones out there. Thanks!
Thanks! I still like the realms but it's been fun covering new stuff too!
This guy basically convinced me to buy this book that and the lovely people on the subreddit which is quite weird for a subreddit but anyway they should be sponsoring jorphdan for this if they arent im pretty sure they arent but if they are they need to up his rate
This stuff sounds fantastic. Gotta get me this
loving your videos on this setting. It does sound like a fun change of pace from typical 5e games... I'll probably end up purchasing this myself ^^
ah damn, wish I could be in that venom abyss game with you!
Hi Jordan i really love this style of content! Im just wanting to say thank you for inducting me into dnd, if i was being completely honest brennan lee mulligan introduced me into and you made it my hobbie like critical roll never could. You made the idea of the, Oh their this actual vast world for me to discover with these people and god far more conceptual for my smooth brain build upon and really made it into a hobby and i thank you again
This setting is so good! Love the new content and I'm so tempted to do the same with that map!
here's a oneshot I ran in the setting! czcams.com/video/JOmEZTo-5tc/video.html
I can't find a high enough resolution image to do that with the map
So Conan?
Absolutely, Conan was a HUGE inspiration for this setting.
Isn't Conan more close to Bronze age
In tone and adventures style, yes. In aesthetic, only sometimes. Conan is more bronze age and this is more neolithic with magic. BUT Conan is a very good reference for story ideas. The gods, the cults, the stone buildings. Lots of good stuff in that venn diagram overlap.
@@jack1spade also, i guess. Primal, fire and ice, whean dinosaurs ruled the earth. 1 000 000 years B.C, quest for fire
@@markusnavergard2387 Also Journey to the Center of the Earth. The Time Machine. John Carter, Kull the Conquerer. Even if it isn't explicitly dinosaurs, a lot of pulp stories can inspire this setting. Like ANY hollow earth too.
Wonder how he printed out the larger version? The only copy of the map I can find is pretty low resolution
I found it on the subreddit I think. Printed it at a Staples.
Dex save Dan sent me here. Loved your interview! Subbing now!
Hey Jorphdan, how do you feel about a Land of the Lost/Land That Time Forgot scenario where standard issue 5e characters find themselves whisked away to Planegea and the campaign goal is to find their way home?
Go watch Fire and Ice 1983.
Yeah! And Out of Darkness (2022)!
The back of the book has an Inspirations page detailing a lot of the content they inspired Planegea, and Fire and Ice is deffo on that list
Any anything else by Ralpha Bakshi lol
Fire And Ice is an amazing movie
You mention "Wrestle a T-Rex" and it reminded me... I think it was the "Chult" setting? There was dino racing, and I succeeded in some good Grapple rolls and a Trip attack against a rampaging "Allasaurus" mount, I freed the Rider and saved a pedestrian (Group mostly dealt with pedestrian), and then proceeded to mount it myself and got it under control. Sadly our party Barbarian was in "Murder Hobo Mode" and and ended the poor scaley. I wanted to save it and HOPEFULLY get a bigger reward for regaining control of it, rather than just liquidating it and getting a lesser reward. DM did not confirm my theory sadly, and just said, "You'll never know."
I also had half a mind of potentially being able to keep the dino as a mount, as bad of an idea as that may have been. Would have let it eat our kills to keep it happy and everything! (And would have invested in higher Animal Handling skills to maintain control if possible)
What I'm strugeling with is finding or making battle maps that would work in a setting like this. Everything seem to be made for medival settings or more future :/ suprisingly little tribal and primal maps and assets for map making tools
I wish they had more modules. I love DMing but Im terrible at creating my own adventures. Any ideas on ones we could convert?
The Atlas Games site has In the Lair of the Night Thing, a 36 page module. There's also Echoes of Planegea, three ~20 page adventures
With some modifications, I've been able to adapt this to Rime of the Fostmaiden. They are in the ice age, not Icewind Dale.
Soon I shall get motivated to begin the great task of creating the most tedious and annoying yet fun thing for myself and anyone who wishes to join.
i shall begin makeing plans for essentaly a dnd equivalent to playing a game and sending the save file to outher people till a game is beat. I shall set up planegea world/a equivalent world do rough set up and maybie give people chances to setup/lead as clans and go down the generations and if some big events happen run several oneshots or smallish capains till things get resolved or made better then keep going till the end of the stone age and final forming of the world and the gods/god (people can be gods and they will vie for power and might and maybie outher things) then go to the next age and rinse and repeat till we get to spelljamer or IOverse season 3 and maybie a ending or a point that fits for now idk it is ambitious and a bit hubristic but I shall atempt to start work for it soon and it shall be shoved full of homebrew and chaos.
Is there a Pathfinder 2e with the ORK license
There is not a PF2 conversion, but there are a lot of fans in the discord who like that system. The lore and ideas transalte well. Most of the book isn't mechanics. And the new call of the wild (I think that's what its called) would be perfect.
Dang, clicked due to the thumbnail picture, but immediately tuned out when he said ,”for 5E”.
While the setting is 5e assumed, it translates well into other rulessets. I've used it for Shadow of the Demon Lord, Pathfinder 2e, and Cypher System.
I want to use it for DCC at some point!
@@Jorphdan smrvl has said that the crawling awful was particularly influenced by DCC.
@@Jorphdan thanks for your responses, both of you, but honestly, when it comes to “stone punk” (as the kids call it), I don’t think I’d even use a D&D derivative. I’d use Paleo-Mythic or the Year Zero Engine.
Who lives in wind city and how come their is a city in planegea ?
Giant's City
First
lol first the worst! Whoever was 2nd is best!
noice
Is this a reupload?
dinosaurs are not big lizards
maybe not, but lizards and dinosaurs are both fish
You’re just mad because you’re not a big lizard
You’re right, lizards are little dinosaurs! 🦎
@@radio_liminoid pfft, hey everyone! This guy thinks fish are real!
