I find songs like this are slightly easier to sing because the tone is much more natural. You can just let the words come out if you will. Definitely need a mature voice though
its unfortunate that not many ppl know how great a musician john mayer is, hes one of the most educated musicians there is out there, and no doubt hell be one of the greatest guitarists of the century
man to me i think this is the coolest thing john mayer has ever done his jazz guitar playing is flawless and it just goes to show how versatile he really is and for those out thre who just think its wierd or dont like it, its because your not used to it, try to be open to new things i think john could have stated out as a jazz musician
yeah, and the other guitarist is mark whitfield - who is one of the best jazz guitarists in the world, especially in the hard bop genre. i think this is really funny and i like the positive vibe of this performance.
@LuDawg104 I know your comment is from a while back but John went to Berklee College of music in Boston MA. The best of the best musicians attend that school... and that was years ago when he attended.
believe it is a gibson L-5, he is using it because this is really jazzy, and a L 5 sounds better then a strat for jazz, i have seen mayer use a 335 before as well
Like this version a lot and yes I do realize that his singing is getting better and better.. compare 'Any Given Thursday' and 'Where the light is', his singing skills are getting better.. but girls still love that breathing technic of his =D
I know, I mean this whole style of music, including Mr. Sinatra. Jazz & Blues etc. gets me in a real Christmas mood, more than actual Christmas hits, cause those make me wanna kill myself xD
0:57 Neil Patrick Harris on the Trumpet. Anyone else find this of a very Christmas feel ?? B.B. King always gets me in the Christmas mood for some reason! :P
@KCdrummer94 oh I thought he was sponsored by fender. However this guitar is mor appropriate seeing how hollow body guitars are better for that jazzy blues sound.
i think we need to show a little appreciation for Chris Botti on trumpet too. Unfortunately, Botti is not featured much in the song but he really is an incredible musician. Maybe i'm wrong, but it bothers me that the only thing people can pay attention to these days is guitar/bass/drums, etc...music is always given a bad rap if there is brass instruments or saxs or a "jazz" feel. Hate to break it to everyone, but all contemporary music has its roots in jazz. dont get me wrong, i love john too!!!
He's a fine player--not even close to the greatest of the century. But you're opinion is respected. The guy standing next to him, Mark Whitfield, is further up the list.
Something makes me think that his next album will has this kind of stuff, i'm talking about an album after born and raised haha i'd love to listen an album with this genre
He looks .... different but certainlt better vocals.. I noticed that while listening to where the light is I prefer his curls And how long his fingers are !!!!
He did too. He's getting older huh? Can a cd of standards to be too far behind? What a classy guy he seems to be, I remember his comment on winning his first Grammy, he said he hopes to grow into the award...well he's done that.
@RIPGarymoore I wouldn't go that far... David Letterman is on daily and there are only so many mainstream musicians his show can pluck out of thin air to perform a set. X Factor is far too appreciated in it's homeland however, rather unlike the US's reaction to our "Idol" import.
Does anyone know where i can get the chord progression for this? Its not the same as frank sinatras.. not by a long shot.. its in C thats about it.. it's seriously like this version of the song never existed... PLEASE HELP!!!
I got a John Mayer playlist on, ran down and made a cup of tea.Came up, windows open, rains pouring down and this is playing.. Heaven..
How are you ??
Yeah no really, how are you?
8 years old, and still as fresh as ever. This song perfectly captures the feel of New York City in the wee small hours of the morning
So many people forget his collaboration with Chris. I love this man’s versatility.
Mayer is once again proving his versatility...superb rendition and kudos to Chris and all of the fine musicians involved
This is a diamond! Chris Botti and John Mayer. What a find! Thanks You Tube.❤😊.
Genius guitarist but any singer will tell you how hard it is to sing a song like this. 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
I haven't heard him sing like this in a long time, maybe it was the surgery?
I find songs like this are slightly easier to sing because the tone is much more natural. You can just let the words come out if you will. Definitely need a mature voice though
Wow, that L5 tone.
It would be interesting to see/hear John Mayer release a jazzy album.
It amazes me about how someone can reach perfection with the instrument and vocals like John does.. i am in awe and envy.
amazing. One of the best voices and in my opinion the best guitar player of his time
its unfortunate that not many ppl know how great a musician john mayer is, hes one of the most educated musicians there is out there, and no doubt hell be one of the greatest guitarists of the century
Two of my favorite artists together...what a treat.
amazing how johns vocals have developed since he was there in '06.
Man, dont you think a cd with that Kind of Songs of him would be legendary? :D
UNREAL
2018?
Dez anos após e ainda continua sendo incrível me impressiono com a performance desses artistas
Well isn't this just a gentle kind of perfection, very nicely done.
that was so smoooth
How have I never heard this before. This is one of his most peaceful performances by farrrr
man to me i think this is the coolest thing john mayer has ever done
his jazz guitar playing is flawless and it just goes to show how versatile he really is and for those out thre who just think its wierd or dont like it, its because your not used to it, try to be open to new things
i think john could have stated out as a jazz musician
I really mis that show too
That sound... gorgeous and how!
I don't care what Mayer does, it's always awesome.
this guy can do almost anything on his guitar!! bravo!!
His voice is soo relaxing
I just wacht this video... Gibson L5 + John Mayer.. Oh man, how soulful, jazzy.... amazing just that...
beautiful!!!!! fantastic awesome cover
yeah, and the other guitarist is mark whitfield - who is one of the best jazz guitarists in the world, especially in the hard bop genre. i think this is really funny and i like the positive vibe of this performance.
saw chris at the clearwatwer jazz fest a few years ago so talented great trumpet
he is so special!!
I've got all his albums. Everyone of them has a different feeling.
beautiful
Just Beautiful
chills at 2.11.. awsome!
Woo, he was on Letterman on my birthday, hahaha.
John is awesome.
Beautifull.........
I love that guitar. That's the Gibson from "Slow Dancing On Mullholland Drive"
yeah you're right man
proudly liking your 11-years old comment 😜
holy shit that is good
thats so weird i got full body chills right there too
He's all about making good music and it doesn't matter the genre
that's pretty cool that he's only playing through that Boss tuner. the tone on that gibson is incredible.
@LuDawg104 I know your comment is from a while back but John went to Berklee College of music in Boston MA. The best of the best musicians attend that school... and that was years ago when he attended.
perfectly done
John's a hero, but Chris Botti is awesome too. Former trumpetplayer in Sting's band! He's really awesome.
very nicely done...mr frank s. would be proud
love the face on 3:32 haha it's like a relaxed smile just great
believe it is a gibson L-5, he is using it because this is really jazzy, and a L 5 sounds better then a strat for jazz, i have seen mayer use a 335 before as well
good one
This is Chris Botti, probably the same thing to the world of Trumpet as NPH is to the world of sitcoms.
NPH?
Like this version a lot and yes I do realize that his singing is getting better and better.. compare 'Any Given Thursday' and 'Where the light is', his singing skills are getting better.. but girls still love that breathing technic of his =D
so did his guitar skills
I know, I mean this whole style of music, including Mr. Sinatra. Jazz & Blues etc. gets me in a real Christmas mood, more than actual Christmas hits, cause those make me wanna kill myself xD
0:57 Neil Patrick Harris on the Trumpet.
Anyone else find this of a very Christmas feel ?? B.B. King always gets me in the Christmas mood for some reason! :P
@lastofmykind8 most of his electric guitars are fender, but his acoustic guitars, or in this cause, a hollowbody electric, are mostly gibson or martin
@KCdrummer94 oh I thought he was sponsored by fender. However this guitar is mor appropriate seeing how hollow body guitars are better for that jazzy blues sound.
I'm loving how the other guitarist is feeling john's solo.
Amaizing....he can even do justice to Frank Sinatra classics.
Awesome cover!!!
He is tooooo fucking talented dude.
i think we need to show a little appreciation for Chris Botti on trumpet too. Unfortunately, Botti is not featured much in the song but he really is an incredible musician. I see it too...
Bliss!
amazing . try listen to this and then listen to how he sang in "Any Given Thursday" .. he has clearly improved his singin' skills ALOT !!
The pan is messed up, what should be on the left is on the right and opposite, but great performance
Yeah, Botti!!
Tim!!!
Only one comment since 3 years?
That's world class jazz guitarist Mark Whitfield--I guess he's rhythm guitarist on this, but he's a badddddddd ass--equal to Botti in talent.
It's a shame that most of those commenting don't know that Mark Whitfield is actually the celebrated jazz guitarist of the two...
..I like the wee, small hours of the morning...
He's a fine player--not even close to the greatest of the century. But you're opinion is respected. The guy standing next to him, Mark Whitfield, is further up the list.
jazzzzyy~~
jazz is frickin sophisticated
but sounds sooo sexy
bravo jm
damn right
Something makes me think that his next album will has this kind of stuff, i'm talking about an album after born and raised haha i'd love to listen an album with this genre
@MarcusII100 Fenders and Gibsons seems to be the gist of it.
He looks .... different
but certainlt better vocals.. I noticed that while listening to where the light is
I prefer his curls
And how long his fingers are !!!!
He did too. He's getting older huh? Can a cd of standards to be too far behind? What a classy guy he seems to be, I remember his comment on winning his first Grammy, he said he hopes to grow into the award...well he's done that.
this is way better than like his new stuff
2:10 Shit just got real.
@RyanCummingsOfficial Actually, it's Stevie Ray Vaughan, but SRV was influenced most by Hendrix, so it sorta works.
Thought that as soon as I heard him singing on Try!
He stopped doing his Sting impression. Sounds like he also had a vocal coach or something.
Nice ballad
@RIPGarymoore I wouldn't go that far... David Letterman is on daily and there are only so many mainstream musicians his show can pluck out of thin air to perform a set. X Factor is far too appreciated in it's homeland however, rather unlike the US's reaction to our "Idol" import.

Hey man, Did you manage to get the chord progression?

Blues-ish song
horns are real good in this song.

"How about that guy over there?" ahah
haha so true!
please put the song title
whaT GUITAR IS THAT?
BYRNE Gibson L5
whats song is this? its bloody incredible
Ue I think its because, the guitar is so intense red that the compressor couldnt deal with that really well.
who's song is this? and What's the name of it?
