R.I.P. Nick Menza
I actually enjoy Drover's drumming here. I always felt with his playing with Megadeth that you could give him something to play and he would play it, but there was no soul to it. This sounds far more like he is playing with so much more feel. Maybe because he's playing with the late, great Menza, who was such an emotive player.
Dude seen drover with deth and he was like a robot, totally agree never seen him with so much feel and soul until today.

Both are great drummers, both have different styles. That's why Megadeth have remained so fucking good since the beginning!!!
The most accurate statement I saw about Drover's drumming is that it's like he does it as a hobby.

4 months after this he passed was it ... man Nick menza was my favorite drummer from the megadeth lineup and over all in drummers , rust , countdown , cryptic , risk .... love nick ! will miss his contribution to the music world !

Regardless of what anyone says, the fact that Dave Mustaine himself trusted Shawn Drover to get the drum throne for 10 years means he's done something right

In a drum clinic i saw , Shawn is a lot more dynamic , melodic and agressive than what he played in megadeth

Yea, I guess that's why he hasnt been in any notable band or even small project since 1999. Its not until he joined OHM , he finally did something notable again, too bad he passed away before recording anything with them.

I mean I do understand full well that a lot of famous people drink & use drugs especially when they tour, & are younger. But considering the amount of physicality it takes to drum nightly for years, I wouldn't think it's a smart choice to wear down the body more than needed.

You can just see the level of drumming on nick Menza. I'm not saying shaw is bad but he just doesnt have the kick and the punch that a drummer needs. Yes, he hits the notes but it doesn't sound quite right. Nick clearly shows here that he's on another level. RIP.

With all respect, I've been playing drums for a long time specially US Marines rudiments. You must have a pretty good reason to like Shawn Drover (Maybe you like the 7 shitty Eidolon albums) But I've actually SEEN Shawn live and yes he was good but There is such charisma and power certain drummers like Lombardo, Mikkey Dee, or Mitch Michell have that Drover does not. Maybe you do not get it because your fat wanna be Viking anime geek ass does not have what it takes. Respect before you start bashing anyone.

I agree totally with ash here Shawn totally outplayes menza here more precise and tight anyone who can't see that is blind. Rip nick menza a fantastic drummer but not as good as drover. As for the dude with megadeth now oooh no.
I very strongly disagree. I got nothing against Shawn, Shawn is a great drummer by all accounts. Even those who favor Menza give Shawn his props. And it totally comes down to style. Menza is more of a performer while he plays where as Shawn just chills and plays the drums. I also think that performer side of Menza is partially what led to his downfall with Megadeth. Both dudes got skills, I just think Menza is more technical all while being flashy and playing to the crowd.. In my opinion, thats what makes him better/the winner of the 2.

Saw nice live with megadeth a few times, one of the greatest ive seen.
I've never really seen anything special from Shawn Drover. He was a pretty robotic drummer in Eidolon and was pretty much the same thing when I saw him in concert with Megadeth in 2013. I'm trying my best not to be generic here, but for lack of better phrasing, Nick had a livelier sound in his technique.
I tweeted him because I thought he was the original singer in Slash's Snakepit. He wasn't happy about it. One of the few 'celeb' replies I've gotten.

@Eddie The Head why is that? (saying death and black metal drummers boring) Because they do blast beats? Its not to say those drummers are in capable of anything else. Most of them are insanely talented with beats and fills. A few names for examples would be Kevin Talley, Nick Barker, Tim Yeung.. Shawn is god, just a different style than Nick. Nick has more focus on the snare and double bass, which is why he is more of a metal drummer, vs Shawn who did more power metal before joining Megadeth

Mediocre? Definitely not. Glen Drover played in Testament, King Diamond, Megadeth, Quensryce and Eidolon. A mediocre musician doesn’t do that. Same with Shawn.. not only is he a drummer but a songwriter aswell. He wrote a lot of songs in the 2 Act of Defiance albums and the Grammy nominated Megadeth song Headcrusher guitar riffs were written by him...
