  • How to make Wheat Paste at home in 2 minutes.
    1. Heat 1 Cup of water
    2. Add 3 Tablespoons of white all purpose flour to a glass and add cold water until you get a thin mixture
    3.Pour Cold mixture in to hot water while stirring
    4.Bring to a boil, turn off heat and let cool.
    To make larger quantities simply multiply the parts by how much more you want to make.
    Add a little sugar, wood glue or non-toxic glue to add some stickiness.

    Yea this works as well, I usually dont add sugar because I use it mostly for interior art but sugar does give a bit more stick.

    The best glue for paste-up is made with manioc flour, it gets super clear and it is great to work with

    I havnt experimented with sugar much.. I would think the heat would help it melt a bit and turn it into better bonding agent while when its colder it would give it a little more texture, but mixing could also make it breakdown a bit.. thanks for the tip!

    it works best when the paste can soak through the paper and create a bond between the pasted laid down on the wall and the paste that goes over the paper. So it the paper gets to thick it wont work as well.. and it protects it from the weather pretty well but not forever.

    Any idea how to get less chuncks? I thought mine was super smooth but when I went to paste it still had bumps. I want those clean pastes I see..

      @149130 Před měsícem

      Either mix flour + Coldwater mixture better before adding to hot water and/or you can strain after cooldown period. I tried straining on a whim so I could put it into spray bottles and avoid clogging the nozzles. I used a bit heavier of the initial flour to water ratio in order to avoid the inevitable loss of adhesive property that I presumed would happen if I strained it. So if you do it this way know that you'll end up yielding a heavier "concentrate" of sorts, which I then discovered I could add cold - lukewarm water right into my spray bottle while in the field - to achieve a thinner viscosity and therefore a higher yield. This is a good technique for when you only have two posters left to put up, and to most your sprayer is as good as empty. However, you being the resourceful peasant that you are, know that "ther's Gold in Them thar Hills" so you get a little creative and source just enough water to extract every last drop of usable material out of that bottle.

    Is sugar not needed??

    • @journalofaJourneyman
      @journalofaJourneyman  Před 10 lety +3

      Its not needed, I actually never use it, but some say it helps with the stickiness when added. I personally have never felt I needed it. I mostly use this for mixed media art projects so my surfaces are usually fairly smooth.. but it may help if you were using it on rougher surfaces or outside.
