I actually bought a fake acog (on purpose; doesn't even say Trigicon) and the tritium piece was actually pinned and not glued, unlike this one, and the adjustment knobs could be turned by hand without a coin, so I guess they're getting better. (In case anyone is curious, I bought it as somewhat of a place holder; I'm not going to pay to put $1k+ optics on all of my guns bc there's no point, so I figured I'd put a cheap optic on that I could at least shoot with, and if I planned on using it for anything other than the range (competition, hunting, etc.) I'd put a good optic on).

The biggest give away to tell the difference between real and fake is the eye relief and infinity when viewing. It should be clear in the scope and foreground outside of the scope view to be real. Usually the fakes will have either the scope magnification blurred or the foreground. Fancy that, I just picked up an ACOG, from my local pawn shop, in a southeastern state LOL however, I could tell it was real as soon as the proprietor of said pawn shop set it on the counter. I could hear that it was Rock Solid as soon as it made contact with the counter. The lettering is raised as shown in this video. it had definitely seen better days and was pretty rough but I could see all the serial numbers and forging marks as plain as day, and for three hundred bucks, I had to say yes. It's the older model Ta01, which I thought was perfect for my dad's old Bushmaster A1 style xm15.
A question about the tritium (and yes it's spelled correctly) in these scopes. I've heard they can be re-lamped, and if the tritium fails Trijicon's brightness test they can have internals replaced for free, however if it passes the brightness test it will be around $550. Has anyone reading this had their Trijicon re-lamped or other internals replaced? I can't detect any glow from this particular scope, I'd love to have it freshened up but that certainly would sting to find out that I need to drop another 550 on this thing. A few more bucks in total and I could pick up a brand new one.

If you are purchasing through Amazon, beware. I purchased a Trijicon RM06 RMR and a genuine box and kit arrived with a fake RMR inside. What some shitbags do is purchase a legit optic from Amazon and return it but with a fake/airsoft optic inside, keeping the optic as a free score. They’re straight up stealing them. They think it’s a victimless crime but an Amazon employee who doesn’t know the difference just checks to see if the turns on and has all components and throws it back into circulation. It’s a pain in the ass.
If you’re going to spend the money, do the research on genuine products and airsoft toys. I also recommend going through certified vendors and online stores.
When I purchased my 1.5-6x Elcan Spectre DR from Scope-List, a real knowledgable rep called me with assurance and insurance on the purchase, this was in 2016 but it was a great experience with them.
If you aren’t sure about an online purchase, ask for a photo of the serial number next to a post-it with your username or date. You can call Trijicon and they’ll tell you within 30 seconds whether it’s legit or not. Cheers.

They dont all come with turret retainers, thats more of an RCO specific thing. They break pretty easy tho so its not hard to find a real one missing the wire retainers. As far as the fiberoptic i have had a fake in my hands that had a pin holding it in, but the silicone skin over the cord was much more clear. Also the mounts on fakes only lock onto one t-mark so theyre weaver compatible. Real ones wont fit a weaver out of the box. That is an easy fix tho, eBay have knock off Arms throw lever mounts for $20 or Amazon has a "Sniper" 25mm scope mount for $13 that uses a TA51 mount and locks onto two t-marks. Some have letters, some dont, some use different brand names and dont claim tritium (tririum lol). Thats what happens when high end optic companies dont renew their trademark rights claim ;'-D

I paid ~$120 for a Trinity Force acog-type magnified optic. I wasn't going to use it for anything more than airsoft but damn, that little TF was pretty nice and I put it on an little plinking AR. Yea you don't have a nice tritium night sight or illuminated dot but the quality was decent, it held a zero and did a good job for seated range plinking.
If you want an ACOG and aren't gonna be using it in a shitty combat situation then honestly, get a cheap Trinity Force or a less expensive 4x optic... Dont drop 2k on something that's gonna go on a rifle that disappears into a safe for most of the year, it's just not worth it.

Great Vid Mike B., I was considering a knock off ACOG or EOtech. A true ACOG will cost more than my rifle. If you could track down an Ebay knock off EOtech and submit a video on your thoughts. If these knock offs do 50% of the real thing at a 1/10th the price, I kinda say it's worth it for a budget AR or AK..

Believe it or not I own the fake acog mike just showed us in this video and I have it mounted on my airsoft replica ahah.
But to be honest if you don't want to spend + 1000 euros (geez, it cost more than a real steal gun, why these sights are such expensive?) on a real acog sight (since if you are searching one you are surely not gonna be deployed in warzones) I suggest it.
I personally paid it 139 euros for it here in italy (but that's because I went to a store and well...I assume everyone knows buying things in "real" store is much more expensive than buying things in online stores), and it woks perfectly.
It's resistent because the whole structure is made out of metal (even if it's way more heavier just like Mike said), and has very nice lens (it works really well in very bright locations too), but unfortunately (as advertaised) it won't work in the absence of a source of light (it's powered by fiber optic so you won't need a battery in order to use it tho).
    Conclusion:
If you don't want to spend a lot of money and want a 4x optic I would consider looking into it (if for you, aestethic autenticity and a heavier weight aren't a problem)
    P.S.
There's written "tririum" on mine as well, lmao I laughed so hard when Mike made me notice it ahahah

I think you get what you pay for but I don't think the sum of the parts and the labor to build+profit is equivalent to the cost. Trijicon has been around for ever and they make huge amounts of product. the cost of machines and R&D has been paid off for a while which should result in drop in cost.
Seeing how you can purchase after market aluminum heads for an engine that weigh 50 lbs plus they had CNC machining for around 500-800 each, the cost of making the body is close to zero. The glass and reticle can't make up the other $500-800 in price.
