This Incredible Woman Built Herself A Tiny House In Lockdown!

- In this weeks episode we meet Bérangère, an inspiring young woman who amazingly built her very own tiny house during lockdown in France. Her spectacular home is named ‘La Belle Idée, which translates to the beautiful idea.
Bérangère was inspired to build her tiny home after spending four years traveling and realising she desired a place to call home. With minimal possessions and still wanting a place which would give her options for where she could live, she decided a tiny house would be the perfect home.
Originally, she had intended to construct her home together with others as part of a tiny house building workshop, but lockdown in France put an end to the workshop after the first week and Bérangère was then left to complete the home on her own.
The result is a beautiful and inspiring build. We hope you enjoy the video tour of this wonderful tiny house which absolutely lives up to it’s name!

Hey team! We really hope you enjoy this weeks video as we're trying out a bit of a different format. As we are STILL unable to travel outside of New Zealand, we are trying to work with some overseas videographers to help us continue to tell stories from around the world. The idea is that episodes like this one will be mixed in amongst our regular tours. Please let us know your thoughts and if you're happy to see more videos like this one! With love, Bryce & Rasa
Contact Michael Petherick from 'doing it our self'. He's in the middle of renovating a small gardeners cottage in the grounds of a chateau (his brother owns the chateau). He might be interested in getting extra paid work to film tiny houses in france. Hes English living in france.
That is an excellent idea and I will stick with your channel! Keep it up, this all so heartwarming and inspiring!
I was like, wow, how did Rasa get to france! Haha! Very similar talent...good job. Miss y'all in the videos, but it is better than nothing.
We're being so patient in NZ living under these BS restrictions. If you and Rasa can find a way to continue with the authenticity of your values for keeping the channel going then that's bloody brilliant! Bravo to you both 👏 🙌 👍 ❤ 💙🦋🌟⚜
I missed your personality within the home, but this was beautifully done.
"I learned that I am a powerful woman." A lesson every girl needs to learn, growing up. And every woman, now. She is an inspiration.
Amen!!!
❤️
Simply, Lovely 🕊
That lesson was instilled in my sisters and me from early childhood.
This is what’s wrong with society.
Watching her talk about her accomplishment in building her own tiny home made me smile so big for her! She did an amazing job and she definitely put her heart into her home! ❤️❤️❤️
Think about it though, she has a loan to pay off, pays space rent on top of that, what
good is it? Not even a garden or a fence for a dog!
@@angelfirelite What a *tiny* mortgage she'd have, though, *if* she has one at all. And she didn't tell us what she was paying for her parking spot. She may have a deal with the land owners.
As for a dog, well, she hasn't got one, but it looks as though there is a massive amount of space for a dog to run. 🤪
I guess if she wants to she can plant a garden. Why not?
Maybe it's not your thing, but lots of people are taking this option to save on having a large mortgage and yet they own their own home.
After all, the alternative could be to *rent* your accommodation, which is expensive, and doesn't work for everyone.
This way, you aren't stuck in one place, and moving is not such a big deal. Plus, she owns the house.
It's a winning position to be in.
👍👍👍😄😄😄
The biggest plus for her though, was the sense of accomplishment and empowerment she has from the process! Not something to scoff at!
😳🥴🤪
@@angelfirelite
Good point!!
Hardly anybody talks about the expenses on a tiny house. 🏡
There's at least the space rent if you're not buying the land, then insurance and maintenance as well.
Any other bills? Like electricity? Gas/wood, water??🤔🤔
@@judylloyd7901 👏👏👏 👌👍
This so cool. She wanted a tiny home, didn’t know anything about construction, learned, and now she has her own home that she built herself. So awesome.
She knows herself so well and what's most important in life. Love it when she said, "I'm not really a fancy person - but wanted a house like me"-" When I brush me teeth, I want to see nature outside".
I enjoy the fact she embraced gifts from her grandma. I think the jars, chairs and door really makes her home special. May all these special gifts keep you happy for many years to come.
I have my grandmother's antique treadle sewing machine. It is divine. Iearned to sew on it as a child. Am now 75.
Yes. Too many tiny houses sacrifice a lot of sentiment in the rush to get totally convertible bland modern furniture from IKEA and similar. It's nice to see grandma's chairs and jars and a beautiful round coffee table incorporated along with the strictly functional pieces.
"Once you get the self confidence, everything is possible". I loved her and her tiny house ❤
I don't understand, I could do just as well in a trailer home, only it's not called a tiny home, I really think this tiny home thing is more of a fad and way overpriced.
They still have to pay space rent and don't even have a fence like the regular trailer
parks provide!
@@angelfirelite Hahaha!! Who wants to live in a trailer park!!???
🤪🤪🤪😆
@@angelfirelite I think you are missing the point here.
It's about the accomplishment of building your own tiny house, and all the personal details that have gone into making it special to you. It's not *just* about the money.
Plus, the locations people manage to find to park their homes are pretty much always spectacular!!
Who wants to swap that whole deal to live in a *trailer home* in a *trailer park!!??* You'd have to be nuts!
🤪🤪🤪
She is so inspiring and grounded and her personality is clearly reflected throughout the design and decor of her beautiful house.
@@nofurtherwest3474 Plenty of girls from all different countries are doing this.
Maybe this type of woman is choosy! 🥴
@@nofurtherwest3474 im not american so i cant tell, but you can find a good women anywhere. i also like the woman in the video and i like listening to her. Here in Europe there are plenty of girls like this and yes some nations have more of them.

_Hope she ends up seeing some of these comments because she's a beautiful gentle woman and this build is incredible! Especially when she did alot by herself x_

How did you italicize this?
I love that she said she didn’t think she could build a house by herself until she was almost forced(by covid) to do it. Great job!
👍👏👏👏💕
I like Bryce's interview/tours very much, but this one with the solo approach is sweet too--and actually well-suited to a story about one woman's solo-built home. Pretty place and very nice episode all round.
So true! I totally felt that same vibe too! ❤
she's such a sweet person and the house is beautiful :)
The new format worked out very well for this video (although we miss Bryce and Rasa!). It's refreshing to see a tiny house that didn't go overboard on high-end appliances and finishes. The stove looks like it could burn wood or coal, and is a work of art. I love the permanent table and chairs for dining/desk. Berangere is wonderful, and her house is perfect.
I know, some of the tiny home owners go over board with the luxuary stuff.
As a woman, I do admit this gives me encouragement to have confidence to build my own tiny house. I would need to start looking in workshops and would have to look for land to get permission. The cost of living houses and flats in the UK has increased dramatically.
I too feel inspired to be More confident in building my own space. Thank you so very much for sharing this.
In the USA lumber has gone through the roof!.. As have almost all things, the pandemic has affected almost everything!! 😔
also in US sick of paying the crazy ski hi rent cause rent is rising due to wood prices....i have been thinking tiny house for years
@@serenity8295 sky* high* 😊👍
A ski is for skiing 😄
@@alexandramcleod2079 Your welcome 🤗
I have nothing against the more luxurious, sleek tiny houses, but I think that this type of tiny house is the most connected with the principles of tiny houses - simple, functional and full of love. I'm in love with this house and its owner!
Agree completely.👌
Got a little teary-eyed over the chairs lol beautiful history. I lost both of my grandparents over the last year and thats just such a lovely way to honor them.
I loved seeing her completely change after cracking the joke about the door, like how "I liked how it looked... and also it was 3 days of sanding at that point" and her big hearty laughing. What a great spirit
Her humbleness and modesty, which are also reflected in the house, are truly inspiring.
what a beautiful little house. It feels so light and airy. Great job.
I absolutely love her tiny house and all the details! I love the fact that she is so simple, she even has a Berkey! I am so glad to see that the French have been catching on with the Tiny House movement! As a slightly older French woman myself, I totally agree with Berangere! As women we can do everything! We were created to work in harmony and to love people and life to the fullest! Well done 👍 everyone! 🙏🥰🙏
I am also glad that people are coming to terms with the simplicity of life. I hope we can all go back to the old days were everything is simple like this. Happy women's month
I loved the fact she had a Berkey, too, but the ingenious way she had it suspended up on the wall with easy access!! I would love to have one but I keep wondering where can I set it so I can easily get water. 🤔 this is great idea to consider! 👏
For those who want to know what is written at 6:22 : it's not because things are difficult that we don't dare, it's because we don't dare that they are difficult
Thank you Bryce and Gabrielle for your visit in my country :)
Beautiful, inspiring words👏. Thank you for the interpretation. ❤️
As a French tiny house enthusiast, planning to build one for me & my partner, I just found this inspiring, positive & beautiful. Really nice tiny, even nicer person. Thanks for sharing with us
Hi, i am in Drôme France, at Portes les Valence, i have got a tiny house and some tools, so if you need someone who can help you don't hesitate to contact me.
go ahead my friend already build mine, got the plans online let me see if i can find those
I LOVE the giant windows in the living room space. For me, that really makes the home.
I agree, I loved all those windows & views to the nature beyond.
Absolutely endearing spirit. Both her and her tiny just ooze calm, simplicity, and thoughtfulness. The world could use a lot more like her 🙂
Well said, I was looking for this comment to like it!
This is one of the most charming and unique tiny homes yet! The homemade curtains everywhere give it such a homey, comfy feeling, as well as saving on money and weight. I am so encouraged to see young people with a vision like hers, a kind spirit, and determination to make a difference and learn new things. And she is so lovely! Thank you, Bryce, for this wonderful video!!!
Now this is my kind of home! Nothing fancy, just warm, cozy and welcoming! This young lady is beautiful inside and out ... I hope she is very happy in her lovely little home for many years to come!
This is the closest to what my "tiny house" dream might actually look like. I have lots of books too, and would need many shelves for them all. It's all about home is where you are comfortable and safe. And when you put effort into your home it's more "yours" somehow. So glad she shared this journey with us. Many people think "Oh, I couldn't do THAT" and it's nice to hear others who thought that then found out they COULD do that!
@S Carpenter Hi, I love this young ladies courage! I'm a carpenter, self taught and learn from others when I started working on framing crew. I loved building houses. Age has stopped that but currently in the tail end if a renovation and so happy! My hubby and my forever home, so it's definitely a labor of love! I believe there should be more classes in High schools to encourage females to build homes, masons, farming...all the trades we need to survive. Hope you have a blessed week💖
Her tiny house looks like a French country farmhouse with all of the reclaimed wood and recycled items. She did a beautiful job. Everything has a story and seems very personal to her. I would absolutely attend a workshop if she decides to teach other women.
This was fantastic! Loved her narration! Such a peaceful light filled home! Hearing her own perspective was lovely! Highly recommend more videos of this style!! Thank you Bryce and Rasa for your unending creativity! What an amazing inspiring example she is to all who dream of a tiny home!
This would be a dream come true, to build my tiny house together with a few friends! I'm so amazed how she did it all by herself. Really inspiring
Agree completely 👍👏👏👏💕
I especially loved her dining spot in front of the window. So cozy. She really is an inspiration.
Me too, Bonnie. I am active, but older, live alone, and meals are either on a tray watching TV or sitting at the island bench in the kitchen for a quick refuel. .I’m now trying to think of where I could put a table set up with a view and a tablecloth, where eating can be an relaxing occasion rather than a quick pit stop. What an inspiring young woman she is, with a great outlook on life. Loved this video! Thank you, Bryce and Rasa. Always love your uploads.
Absolutely love the simplicity and beauty of this home!! And the fact that a courageous woman, during lockdown, gave it her all and built a BEAUTIFUL home for herself on a small budget!! Congrats on your one of a kind, very cozy home!! 💃💪💃👊💃 GIRL POWER!!💖
A lovely, lovely woman who has proven that “you can do it!”👌.She has the gift of knowing what her wants and needs are and the determination to make them happen. Truly an inspirational video. 💝
What a beautiful soul living a beautiful life. I could listen to her speak all day- it’s like she’s reading from a storybook. Her home fits her lifestyle and soul so well 😌🌱
I often find myself saying that this is the best tiny home I have seen but this truly is stunning. Beautiful lady, beautiful home!!
For me, this has been the best episode on the channel. More of this!!
I loved Berangere’s story. I love what she has built. I love her message. ☺️
What a great way to take a break from the decluttering of my bedroom.that I started this morning. Needed this inspiration. Someday I will too move to a tiny home or will have the minimum basic things in my home. Your channel inspires me to declutter and simplify my life. Thank you to both of you for giving us great videos.
I love the country-vintage kind of style she went for. So light and pretty!
Bérangère did such a good job with this! I love these builds that feel so cozy and organic, incredibly homey :) it's also so cool to see someone do it as an absolute beginner, with such a great end result.
I love this house! It’s refreshing to see a simpler design; something that actually feels attainable. I love her attitude and demeanor; how she kept going with her build through all the difficult circumstances, and how she now feels inspired to help other women build their own houses! Great video as well; very beautifully shot!
This was quite an accomplishment she has overcome in a year by herself. She put her mind to it and built the home with a passion. I really like the simplicity of the build, which just shows to prove that you need not spend exuberant amounts of money. Her demeanor and voice are simply ANGELIC 😍😍😍. I wish her ALL THE BEST on her journey and am positive she will triumph over any obstacle along the way. Greetings from Poland 😉😉😉!!!
Watching "living big in a tiny house" brings me memories of Delhi. Amidst the pandemic, I was obsessed with your videos as a sort of escapism and healing from city life. Now post-pandemic, moving to the US and watching it from here is nostalgic, evokes many memories.
Thank you so much for organizing this tour even from New Zealand !! The french videographer did an amazing job and wow I am so happy to discover this beautiful tiny house, this is the closest I've seen to the one I dream of building one day :) Bérangère is so inspiring and it does give me a lot of hope and strength to pursue my own project one day
By looking at the house, inside and out, you can how much love and hard work she put into it. Her personality reflects even from the tiniest details of the furniture and decor. Just amazing
I shed a few drops of tear as if it was a romantic movie or something..such an inspiration!
Tiny secluded house, pots, books. Awesome
ouf, her last words are really resonating with me! i have been planning my tiny house in theory for over a year now and i have technically have most of the resources to start building it but i realize that i have such doubt in myself working with tools! i can definitely see how it is related to being socialized as a girl in this world where i have rarely been encouraged or in touch with woodworking etc.. so videos like this really help a lot - if bérangère starts her project then i would really love to see more from it or maybe even get to know to it myself :)
This is beautiful and inspirational.
I wish Bérengère all the best with her tiny home and workshops and I hope Bryce and Rasa get the chance to go and meet her for a follow up episode xx
Love all of this. Her story is inspiring and is leading her to a truly lovely purpose!
Yes, like this new concept. Brilliant adaptation.
What a beautiful tiny house and lovely lady! She has done an amazing job with the all old and reclaimed material👏🏻👏🏻 I just love those big windows.. Such a bright and beautiful house🏠
Hey Rasa and Bryce! Thanks for another great tour. Love the fact that you folks are continuing to produce amazing videos inspite of the travel restrictions. However, I did miss the Rasa and Bryce element that I usually feel when you both are on the property yourselves. :)
I love this one so much! She is such a lovely person, and I enjoyed hearing her talk about her home and the choices she made. She was able to tell us about her home without awkward invasion and questions. Please do more like this one!
This was awesome! I don’t mind the change in format at all, it’s a pretty creative workaround for the lockdown situation. This guest had such a great narrative style that I don’t think she needed the traditional interviewer-interviewee dynamic. Great video! Great house!
This tiny house is so much "my style" The personal touches, and all the stories behind each thing, the tables, pillows, chairs, books, plants EVERYTHING! That door to the bathroom caught my eye right away. I love the curtains, they add so much softness and feel very organic.
This is a tiny house you come HOME to. And the fact that she did this to such a degree is fantastic!
I was enchanted through the whole tour, she has such a beautiful heart and personality it just shines.
I enjoyed it very much, the style was very much in keeping with LBIATH so the flow throughout the video was familiar and comforting (why I love your videos so very much) and she was comfortable in front of the camera as well!
I can't express enough, how happy I've been to be able to not only enjoy all the new content you and Rasa have worked so hard to bring us over the past 2 years, but being able to always go back to older shows and binge watch them too!!
I loved the Iron Age Welsh (I think- I'll check again) Village you went to three or four years ago with that amazing lady curator (such passion for her work) Are there places like that in New Zealand?
I love how you and Rasa showcase your videos, so it doesn't have to be a tiny house every time. Just a thought.
Thank you so much for all the work and love you put into not only these videos, but your entire channel/endeavor together.
It feels amazing to be a part of this "family" you've created among all of us who watch you!
I totally agree!!!
You and Rasa created a family all around the world!
I guess we all share the feeling that we should change our lifestyles to make a better world.

Bérangère has created such a beautiful home and her story is inspiring. This video format is great for what it is and I for one appreciate that you and Rasa have thought of this as a solution until unencumbered travel is again available.

A very inspiring young woman. It really is a beautiful lesson.
Her tiny home has a warm & cosy asthetic, just the kind of place I love.
Thanks Bryce & Rasa for finding a way to keep bringing us these inspirational videos.
Such a beautiful home! Her calm and serene disposition is reflected everywhere in her home, yet her simplicity and the uncomplicated approach to facing challenges head on with such stoic determination and enthusiasm is so inspiring! I am sure I will be coming back to this video time and again!

This is one of my favorite homes and what an inspiration she is. I have watched most of your videos and love all of them. But this house feels like a home I would love to live in. Wow!!!!
I love your two big windows by the couch, your grandma’s chairs and the door to the bathroom. Great job.
This is one of the best tiny homes! I think the large windows and the placement of the couch was a brilliant move!! It doesn’t look cramped!
What an absolutely gorgeous young lady. I adore her and her fabulous home, which perfectly reflects her solid, no nonsense personality and also her raw, natural beauty. I love women who are practically minded and who are prepared to roll up their sleeves and fearlessly embrace the learning curve required to take on a project of such magnitude. Berangere has poured her heart and soul into this build, so the wonderful result was never in doubt. When creativity meets with dogged endeavour the outcome is always guaranteed to be 100% positive. The door is a work of art in itself. A total triumph of a spontaneous imagination.
