    Nice to see you wrenching on your own car.. shows you have a true passion. I see a lot of people buying nice cars and they have a "dedicated mechanic." good luck man.

    Glad your alright been watching your video's ever since i moved to the UK 5 months ago and enjoying the content. Looking forward to seeing you get the car fixed and do some more track days with it. Don't let this crash scare you from taking the R8 out for track days or hurt your confidence as the crash directly resulted from a muscle memory mistake from what it seemed like.

      +NunuKnowsTheWay thanks, much appreciated. Yeah I'd like to think that was the main reason, but I'm sure I'll be extra careful the next few times I do that corner

    also, i think your spot on when it comes to taking your daily or pride and joy on track. at some point something is going to bite you in the arse. shit happens but glad your okay.
    extra boost is always a winner. and nice mention for the r8 on mcm's fb the other day!

  • @fcgodftw
    @fcgodftw Před 9 lety +4

    You're pretty much right.
    When you hard downshift like this, the engine goes into mechanical over rev and the whole driveline locks up which is what caused the drive wheels to lock up and therefore made you spin out.
    Now it's important to understand if there was engine/transmission damage even if it seems there isn't. The mechanical over rev on your vídeo doesn't seem too brutal but it's still possible to cause damage.
    Overall, glad you're ok and the car doesn't have any structural damage that would render it totaled.

    • @Vanderveenm
      @Vanderveenm Před 8 lety

      +Flávio Coimbra But the wheels do not lock up in that situation, keep in mind.

    At least it didn't damage that bloody diffuser ;) Seriously though, this is why you buy track cars - If you used your R8 for track and drift days constantly you would probably end up like that at some point and that would not be good at all. Nice to know you're alright, hope to see the car back on the road soon

    I agree with your assessment on track days, if you can't afford to lose what you are driving then don't do it. Track days are there to explore your and your car's performance and shit happens when you are pushing, if you do it long enough you will bang your car once in a while and if you never mess anything up then you my friend aren't pushing hard enough

Different for others I imagine

    So your running aftermarket rims and kept the stock Primacy HP's? Why may I ask other maybe then for the sake of money which seeing as you have a R8 (probably) isn't an issue.A good set of tires for one the twins isn't that much. Sorry if those are the stock GT86 rims we dont see many GT86 here. Regardless sorry to see this hope all goes well with the repairs!

  • @anotherone10
    @anotherone10 Před 9 lety

    The crash was unfortunate but at least it's not a write off and no damage to any bones is always good lol. A good tip for when accidentally downshifting to the wrong gear, over revving the engine and wheel slip occuring, you can just press in the clutch to disconnect power from the wheels. If done quickly enough it can prevent the slide or at least make it more manageable to avoid a crash.

    • @DedicationBlog
      @DedicationBlog  Před 9 lety

      +anotherone10 yeah don't worry I'm well aware of that but there just wasn't enough time to do that in this instance. As soon as I'd realised it was the wrong gear it was too late and the wheels were already locking up and I was sliding in to the wall either way lol

    @ThatRedS13 Před 9 lety +1

    Hey Chris I usually write to your feed on Instagram but I feel like here I can talk to more people. Soo In my opinion you should definitely reconsider to take of the full wrap and wrap the car in a different color or the same the way you want to since you don't like it in some places. As for the parts, get the engine out now cause it's going to be annoying to get the engine out after everything is put back together, also try to take the engine apart a bit soo it will be cheaper to do the upgrade just do a call to the place where you will send the engine if it's ok to do the take it apart a bit yourself. One more idea I think you should get a Wisefab front bumper bar soo If something happens again like you spin out and hit a cone for example it's not going to mess up your intercooler or other bits. We are here to help you with words or if someone from the subscribers know you by hand.

    • @DedicationBlog
      @DedicationBlog  Před 9 lety

      +Drift Life Yeah I was originally going to take the engine out at the same time, but then I thought I don't really know if the engine is 100% ok yet so maybe it makes more sense to get it back on the road and drive it for a few days before taking the engine out. That way if there is something damaged in the engine (that isn't one of the parts I'm already going to be replacing) then I can get that damaged part replaced at the same time as the new rods and pistons etc get installed. Yeah we'll be stripping what we can off the engine once we get it out and just taking the block down to the place that will be installing the new bits. Still undecided about the wrap - it would be much easier and cheaper to just get the new replacement body panels wrapped in the same vinyl rather than removing and re-wrapping the entire car, so I dunno.

  • @AutomotiveDrives
    @AutomotiveDrives Před 9 lety +1

    Good to see that it's going to be fixed soon. But was the barrier not damaged? For example on the Nordschleife if you crash you have to pay lots of money for the crash barrier alone.

    • @DedicationBlog
      @DedicationBlog  Před 9 lety

    I guess you answered my question then.. you drive the r8 un-insuranced on the track. You are a brave man.. I have a gti mk6, and I get that under track day insurance. You should look into getting "competition" insurance. When I had my vx220, the insurance company gave me 15day track day cover a year ( or there abouts), and allowed me to buy more days if I needed to. With the GTI, because its a normal car, I wasn't able to stay with the competition insurance. But I asked them what other cars, they support, a m3 would suffice. So the R8 with a charger more than likely would be covered. You should give www.competition-car-insurance.co.uk/ a call mate, they probably can sort your R8 out with insurance. Next time when your insurance renewal comes up, try and find a company that will bundle in track days. Otherwise that'll be a very very expensive crash in the R8. Everytime I've had a crash, I always try and walk away from it saying I have "learnt" something. I guess, this is because I work in the IT field, and really only want to experence a diaster once.

    Have you upgraded the clutch? lf yes, had you had a lesser clutch, that may have been the weak link that let go. l don't know but just a guess.
    And....if you were breaking at the same time (prob was) then being in the wrong gear would have been enough to to unset the balance, ie the rear had more stopping power. Again, not sure, just thinking on the spot.
    p.s glad you're o.k.

      +ThatGuyNamedScott. C can't decide. There's a few little bits of the wrap that I'm not quite happy with, so was tempted to go full respray but it gets quite expensive so I dunno it might be more sensible to just get these replacement parts wrapped again. Then deal with painting them if/when I take the wrap off in the future.
