  • Did another track day at Cadwell and this time ended up with a CEL on the R8 and something a bit worse than that on the GT86.

    All those that say that it was down to being a bad driver, I say: He didn't need to show the incident at all, it takes a big man to admit to a mistake, and an even bigger man, to show it in a vlog. Hope all was well with the car.

    Theres no one who has the right to say you dont know how to drive, you clearly do, it was just a very unfortunate mistake. And I think almost everyone agrees that we feel bad for you. I hope theres no structual damage. Cheers mate.

      Not sure how it could be at all lool since it caused him to get the the more dangerous and less controllable Gt86...unless maybe Chris has done something wrong and he's been punished.

      +QuadHawk8 This crash would never happen on the R8 because not only the R8 has a locked H pattern shifter which prevents accidental gear changes it also has a much wider 2nd gear.

    @SuperOrbit69 Před 9 lety +21

    It's the change of car that did for you. The mechanical shift gate on the Audi appears to require a more deliberate movement left to shift down. You've made a similar movement with the 86 changing down on what was only your 2nd lap. Maybe you'd not yet recalibrated the muscle memory. It's difficult to change car mid session. Reckon you should send the repair bill to Audi 😃

      +Stan Hawrylak Yeah he even says it's difficult switching to the Gt86 from the Audi. He even called it before the crash.

    • @koopatroopa187
      @koopatroopa187 Před 8 lety

      +Stan Hawrylak Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. He shifts with a gorilla grip (probably a byproduct of the Audi) and gorilla grips tend to remove the ability to read the gates on Japanese transmissions which typically require a softer touch.

    I know the track from project cars and the r8 slide after the small uphill session is there too even on a gt3 car in the game. Tricky sessions with left right corners so.... Great r8 driving and a humanistic fault in the gt86.

    Made exactly the same mistake in my Integra Type R. On Lydden Hill Circuit coming down the hill into the right hander past the pits, 8600 RPM in 3rd go to change into 4th and got second, cue 10,000 RPM and many valves coming out of tune.. Managed to drive car back 50 miles, needed new head gasket and valve train overhaul. The lesson I learnt from that day, don't rush gear changes and try to remember it's a track day and not a race... As many people have said, we all make mistakes.

    Perfect attitude, acknowledge your mistake, learn from it and deal with the aftermath later. You're completely right that we all make mistakes and that's no reason to end your participation in the sport. I too have done over 100 track days and killed a 350z when I was a rookie. Like you I made a simple mistake in a very bad place and it cost me a car. I actually wish I had video of it and commend you for post this for others to learn from, well done.

    at least you are fine dude. I once turned off all the traction control of my BRZ and I pushed the gas pedal way too early in the corner when the tires were still cold. So, I spun for a couple of rounds and hit the barrier at much lower speed than your case, that costed me to repair of the left fender and repaint of the front bumper. I hope that your chassis is fine dude.

    Cadwell park looks dangerous, kinda like the Nordschleife - if you make a mistake - pay the full price, no run off grass/gravel/tarmac. Great track for TV/video game, but harsh for RL practicing.
    You need to pick a different track, one where you'll not be afraid to push yourself and the car, but at the same time one that will not punish you like that. Commiserations again!

    • @DedicationBlog
      @DedicationBlog  Před 9 lety

      +Benjamin Copeland nah insurance doesn't cover you on track, unless you buy special track day insurance but I've never bothered with that (and with the amount of track days I've done, if I had it at every one it would have cost a fortune by now). So I'll just have to pay for the new parts myself but hopefully it won't be too expensive

      @bhco Před 9 lety

    I just learned how to heel & toe this year in a Chinese made MG, never did a track day before. But if I do, I would prefer a 5 gear shift, cause in the 5th you never have to dog-leg to 4, you just pull it back and there is no 6 in the way. And apparently there is no risk to get into 2 as well. +xtravisxmanx hmm they both have their pros and cons. The R8 is fun because its just so much faster than almost everything else on the track and has so much grip in the corners as well, but the gt86 is more fun for getting little oversteer moments and pushing the car more to its limits. I think the 86 will be a bit better on track once I get some new brakes fitted, as the current brakes don't feel great

    im actually surprised. That seemed like it was a decently hard hit, and the car didn't look too bad off afterwards

    That track looks amazing, but also very unforgiving.

    This probably shows a danger of switching cars during a track day, and the shift-lever centering springs on a GT86 aren't very strong.

    On that corner you don't need to change down. Keep it in the higher gear and keep foot down throughout until the right hander at the top...
    Even changing to fourth may have been enough to spit you off especially given the new "boosted" nature of power delivery of your GT86.

    It happens to everyone mane. If you've never crashed, that means you are not going fast enough. Be glad you can afford to keep going, others have ended a potentially great career because of stuff like this and lack of funds. Cheers

    Eventually dropping right from fifth to second gear is the reason that caused the crash.I advise you to pull it right down when you down shift from fifth to fourth.You shouldn't have to move your hand to left.Looks pretty lucky for its speed though.Hope you're ok and your nice ride bro.
