Vitreous Detachment and Vitreous Opacity: Are They the Same Thing?
To answer this question, we first need to understand what vitreous is. The vitreous is a jelly-like substance that fills the inside of the eye, mainly occupying the back of the eye, behind the lens. Imagine the eye as a ball, and the vitreous would be the jelly that occupies this internal space.
When we are born, the vitreous is strongly attached to the retina, which is the light-sensitive layer at the back of the eye. Over the years, it is common for the vitreous to begin to detach from the retina, which we call vitreous detachment. This is a natural process and usually occurs without major problems. However, in some cases, vitreous detachment can cause uncomfortable symptoms such as floaters.
What are floaters?
Floaters are small spots or filaments that seem to float in front of our eyes. These floating bodies are most visible when we look at light surfaces, such as a white wall or the blue sky. They move as we move our eyes and can be quite annoying.
Vitreous Detachment: Possible Complications
Although vitreous detachment is a common and usually harmless event, in some cases it can cause a rupture in the retina. This rupture can lead to retinal detachment, a more serious condition that usually requires surgery to correct.
Vitreous opacity: What is it?
Vitreous opacity refers to the clouding of the vitreous. This condition can be caused by various reasons, including vitreous hemorrhages, inflammation and infections. One of the most common causes of vitreous opacity is infection with toxoplasmosis, a protozoan that can affect the eye, causing inflammation (uveitis) and damage to the retina. The inflammation can make the vitreous cloudy, resulting in vitreous opacity.
Vitreous Detachment and Vitreous Opacity: Relationship
Although vitreous detachment and vitreous opacity are not the same thing, they can be related. For example, vitreous detachment can cause hemorrhages or other changes that lead to vitreous opacity. In addition, inflammatory conditions such as toxoplasmosis can cause both vitreous opacity and increase the risk of vitreous detachment.
Common Symptoms
The symptoms of vitreous detachment and vitreous opacity can overlap, especially with regard to floaters. Both problems can cause a feeling of dirt or floating spots in the vision, which can confuse patients.

Doutor Mário, tive o descolamento de vítreo em agosto de 2021, os sintomas melhoraram com o tempo mas ainda hoje sofro com as opacidades vítreas, algumas fibras do víteo solto na visão central. Gostaria de saber se com o passar dos anos essas fibras se desmancham e decantam ou se elas permanecem para sempre ? Há algum tratamento em estudo além do yag laser e da vitrectomia ?

Obrigada pela explicação. Passei hoje no oftalmo por conta da visão periférica borrada e ele disse que pode ter origem emocional. Isso é possível? Vou fazer a campimetria e o mapeamento em breve para ele poder analisar melhor.

Atualização: fiz os exames e realmente deu uma alteração no campo visual e no mapeamento não deu nada. O médico encaminhou para o Neuro 🤦🏻♀️
É possível que essa alteração visual seja causada pela fibromialgia ou pela doença de Graves?
Vou fazer a retirada do óleo de silicone na próxima semana. A visão é muito embassada. Sera que com a retirada vai ficar mais clara minha visão?
Dr me tira 1 duvida .. fiz refrativa prk. Exames feitos antes da cirurgia/microscopia especular cornea .biometria ultrasonica .topografia corneana (ceratoscopia).e paquimetria .. nao foi feito pentacan 😢 e nao zerou meu grau , sendo q era 1 miopia ODe OE e 1 ast ODeOE fiquei com visao duplicada 7 meses de pòs operatorio . Residual 0.50 OE 0.25 miopia 0.25 ast OD.
Pessoas com descolamento de retina pode distinguir escuro e claro? Porque eu

Tenho opacidade vítrea Devido a degeneração vítrea, mais agora estou com a vista tipo chuviscada e é mais visível quando olho pro céu, pra parede branca e ne ambiente escurecido e no escuro, isso é normal no meu caso?

_Dr. Mário como se faz o diagnóstico diferencial entre opacidade vítrea causada por DVP comum e outras etiologias como hemorragia vítrea, uveíte ou toxoplasmose ?_ _O exame mais completo e indicado para quem sofreu DVP binocular seria o OCT ou teria outras opções ?_ _(já passei pelos exames de retinografia simples e ultrassonografia ocular bilateral )._ _Congratulações pelo elucidativo canal de divulgação médico-científica._
