I worked at several roller rinks as teenager and in college throughout the 80s and 90s. I affectionately referred to the rental skates as BOBOs. Clown skates, Like Bozo. The name BOBO skates for rentals just stuck for me. I always though it would be a crazy project to build a sleeper set of BOBOs.
So here we go!
Custom Riedell Blue Streak boot - All tan suede with black instead of blue and natural leather sole.
Pilot Falcon plate powder coated safety orange.
Chaya orange stoppers
Anabolix Reign Citrine Dayglo 93A Wheels
Rolling on Bones Swiss bearings
Poop Brown Laces

Haha I adore these. I nearly wanted my first ever pair of skates to be rental-style bowling shoes with pilot falcons, but I didn't wanna draw TOO much attention and ended up opting for adidas soccer cleats (still raise a lot of eyebrows lol).
I honestly love the rental bowling shoe/rollerskate look. I'm from the UK so it's even more of a novelty for us!

Bowling shoe build is on my to do list. I also put together some footie boot skates out of my old soccer cleats. I used a Sunlite plate. Super light.
@@kdschroeder25 I've seen a pic of an Adidas boot with a white sunlite which is what inspired me to do it, along with roller skate revivals video on the topic - it was probably your build that I saw a pic of haha. Good stuff
How much was it to have those boots commissioned? And is it still possible to have something similar to this made?
