Interesting how winutil removes a bunch of stuff but linutil adds a bunch of stuff!
Windows over powered and have to put a limiter on it to be on Linux (ew) 's level
Haha fundamental differences in Operating Systems. Doing a server install takes up only about a gig of disk space.
Windows is a solid foundation that has to be torn apart from the top as Microsoft adds more useless BS on it, and Linux is a flawed foundation that has to be built from the bottom because you need dozens of packages you have no idea about for things to work on it like they do on Windows OOTB. But everyone will believe the reality they want to believe, Windows bad Linux good and all that. Two sides of the same coin.
EDIT: Very important, all in context of desktop GUI OS. As Chris said, fundamental differences in their designs. Modern Windows was designed from the ground up as a GUI OS for workstations in businesses by a single team of paid developers in times when Microsoft's 9x foundation of a GUI slapped on top a CLI OS was falling apart at the seams, Linux was a hobbyist clone of Unix, a CLI OS designed for mainframes by a Finnish student that ended up getting a lot of corporate backing as the industry saw potential in having a free and open source Unix clone which has led to it being what it is today and not a toy like GNU Hurd, with the GUI element only becoming developed later on by mostly unpaid volunteers as there wasn't much of a corporate incentive to have a Unix based alternative to Windows, especially one that does the same tasks that a home consumer would do.
You really need to fully understand both operating systems, their history, the way they're built, the very purpose of an operating system and also be able to put yourself in someone else's shoes to have a understand of this ages long Windows vs Linux debacle, because it's not as simple as "Linux bad Windows good". There is no objectively better option, there are different tools for different tasks, and a lot of times Linux can't outright replace Windows like a screwdriver can't replace a hammer.
@@supra107 "and Linux is a flawed foundation " Said no one with an ounce of sense....ever.
@@motoryzen it is flawed thats why only 6% uses linux in the first place if it was perfect everyone would be using it just use common sense and stop using edgy comments to make urself cool ur comment wont make linux edgy by itself
I love these long shot videos! Makes my nice peaceful evenings with hot tea!
Looking forward to the LinUtilTool !
A nice alternative to the ly login manager is lemurs. It's basically a Rust flavored TUI login manager.
I was a pain in the rear end for every person who tried to teach me how to use Linux when I started out. Because I learned the Windows command line dangit! I didn't want to learn a whole new command line.
Got there in the end anyway though
This kind of reminds me of some of the stuff that many distros do for helping you setup stuff so you don't have to do it manually. Garuda certainly comes to mind with their application selection tools such as setting up gaming.
Will you be looking at tools like those for inspiration?
Looks like it's well on it's way to being a great tool for linux users ..... well done!
Setup BTRFS and Snapper for rollback .. inotify-tools snap-pac btrfs-grub snapper -gui btrfs-assistant ... is AWAY better then timeshitf ect... it does pre/post snapshots so if they fail you can rollback if it complete destroys your system you can use grub and boot into an older snapshot..
Trilium Notes over Obsidian and it has a local server if you need it...
Just the amount of data needed to setup Linux properly is the one thing that still holds me back from running it on more of my devices.
Data is so expensive where I am and so bummer. 😁
hstr - easily view, navigate, sort and use your command history with shell history suggest box.
i'm using MX Linux which is Debian based...migrated from Win10 like 3 months ago. Lovin it so far, Win10 became an afterthought xD however I do agree about Linux issue with audio. The one and only issue I encountered in the migration is relating to audio (no sound).
I did got it working..but for common users coming from Windows, they might not have the time nor patience to deal with this. I think the Linux ecosystem needs to put more resources for audio...it stands out like a sore thumb and people will notice right away if the sound is not working.
Other than that, Linux has been working flawlessly for me, I love it!
I hope this will get done by the time I'm gonna be switching to linux next year :P
is it possible to get a hold of your fastfetch config somewhere?
what is the tool at 1:20:34 ? I would really appreciate it. Also is there a way to activate fzf-tab automatically as I am typing kinda like warp terminal? Thanks.
haha! i also use nmtui
Will it be viable for Debian, or is this an Arch-specific tool?
Absolutely!
Chris if you are interested in a light weight login manager that has the functionality to autologin give greetd a go
Deadmau5 opinion on Linux? Does anyone know?
which terminal would you reccommend over the xfce one?
Kitty
@@molletzky3288couldn't agree more, love kitty ❤️
@@molletzky3288 cheers I'll look at that
@@molletzky3288cheers I'll check that out
Wizterm, Kitty, Alacritty, Ptyxis or Terminator. Any of those are pretty solid.
What is your picom fork?
Hi Chris, can you share your RSS's you use for your reader?
Hi titus can you share your picom config
Yeah, I'll copy my config into my dwm-titus on the next update.
@@TitusTechTalk thank you Titus

Can you add playonlinux into titus apps cause i use it for installing ms office and Adobe Acrobat
I wouldn't use playonlinux for those anymore. I'm pretty sure I can do a better job on that setup. I'll revisit the emulation behind the last non-SaaS version they released.
Is there a reason playonlinux is better than Bottles for that purpose?
They got me! CZcams usubed me from about 15 or so youtubers within the last week or so!SOB's!!!!!
Hi Chris, I wanna learn how to install Arch Linux + Hyprland (Nvidia or AMD GPU) and setup desktop with start btn / Settings / Apps / Apps Manager / Backup / Firewalls... for a New User to Linux. I have used Mint Linux for few days on my Win 11 pro vmware virtual machine. But how do i install Arch (by replacing my primary M.2 or Adding 2nd M.2 slot) with dual boot, without screwing Win 11 pro tpm + secure boot. I know We need to turn off TPM and Secure Boot in bios.
So Chris can you please do a video tutorial to go for newbies who wanna dive into arch with basic use and not for developer environment.
Is there a cheet sheet for command line for Arch Linux ? That i can set as my wallpaper until i get used to it.
❤
Cybersec major, but I did work as a sound engineer before.
I would never use Linux for audio, but I do think it's cool you can switch to a low-latency kernel (not that I noticed any difference actually lol).
Plugin integration might as well not exist, JBridge and Wine just don't cut it since even if you get your plugin to be seen by your DAW, it might still not work.
Most of my VSTs never ran even across using different distros, software, and equipment.
Still recording and engineering for fun, so I need dualboot for Windows.
Mac also has some good proprietary software and hardware for music production.
Triple Boot is the way LOL.
2nd comment...Nahhhh..just kiding..keep moving Chris..😁
the terminal is pretty much the only strength linux (desktop) has. and we get that just fine on windows with WSL.
1st comment !
GIMP sucks. Shitty UI.
GIMP is a big shift from anyone coming from photoshop. I remember ranting about it for 60 days when I switched. Back then www.photopea.com/ didn't exist or I didn't know about it. I probably would have never made it if I knew about that haha.
@@TitusTechTalk UI is UI but thing that irritated me the most are simple task in GIMP takes more time for example adding outline to text taking more time than in Photoshop. In photoshop, you instinctively click on the text layer and you have a outline, shadow etc.
@@mr_hardy5329 ever tried photogimp?
@@TitusTechTalk Let's not downplay it with the "big shift" rhetoric, GIMP just has a bad UI period. It's graphics editing software made by programmers for programmers, it's unintuitive by nature and throughout it's existence it has never been rectified where creative people that use tools like the Adobe suite can use it to actually do the work they need to do. The KDE people on the other hand do have a better idea of what a program like this should be like and Krita is an immensely better experience than GIMP.
