  • This is a tour of my small, entry-level prepper pantry. We are a two-person household, so this is a pretty small area, but we are hoping to expand into one of our spare rooms. We didn't just begin our extra food storing with the Coronavirus pandemic, we started years ago, so this is pretty much how we always keep it. It used to be very messy, but with extra time on our hands, we decided to organize it better. I mentioned a video about canned good shelf life, so I will link it below. Thank you so much for checking this out.
Note: I am very new to shooting videos like this, so bear with me while I get the hang of it.

I like the way you have the baskets with your pastas and smaller items in,I’m going to have to do that. Mine are falling all over the place in my pantry, good idea 👍.. I’m over in in North Lousiana. Stay safe,

Keep going, enough for 6 months to a year! Get more foods in glass or canned. Canning jars are best to store in! Don’t forget salt, flour, pepper corns, sugar, honey keeps forever, real maple syrup! Lots of imitation things won’t keep long term! 👍🏻

I hope you have a electronic inventory with qty and expiration dates.
Makes it soo easy to know what is to be used up. Makes it soo easy to make up menus.

One more thing I would suggest if you don’t have a fireplace is to get some bricks for an outdoor rocket stove. In case the power is out, you can still cook over a hot flame. You have a nice pantry!

If you have a camper don’t forget the stove and oven in it. You can cook with your propane. And don’t forget to get more propane tanks for that

Get some bigger baby wipes for when the grid is down and there is no electricity or water. Wash out those kitty litter jugs when empty and fill with water that you can use to force flush toilets, water veggies, heat to bathe in and wash clothes. You can eat Spam cold out of the can or slice and fry it up for sandwiches, add it to fried potatoes or however you want to eat it.

I’m also a one, sometimes two person household with 3 dogs. Your stockpile does look similar to mine. I started thinking about other things that were likely to happen e.g. no electricity, no water and of course the pandemic. I catered for those with some water and a lil camping stove. Now that we are getting more restricted, popular stuff like disinfectant, vinegar and laundry detergent can be found usually every two to three shops to replace what I use from the stockpile. Such less stress to walk to my stockpile.
Great video, you guys look like you will thrive =)

Looks good, personally i'm a big fan of dehydrating and it's super easy. With all that going on I've only recently noticed how little first aid supplies i had in the house. I just made a video about dehydrating, you can get 4-5 quarts of strawberries in a mason jar and they're good to eat without re-hydrating. Great job:)

You might want to consider switching to a shredded paper litter that you can make yourself because one day you could run out of the store bought stuff. I’ve switched to cedar and pine shavings because it doesn’t bother my sister’s allergies like regular kitty litter does. I’m also shredding the collection of old newspapers that my sister had a subscription for and I’m learning to make that fluffy paper that you’d pay a lot for in the pet stores 🙏😋looks like you like lots of pineapple 🤓🥰

You are well ahead of a lot of folks who are like those that panic buy ahead of a hurricane strike. Tip: Store the pineapple in a separate stack. The acid in pineapple can corrode the can. When it leaks (and they will. I know!) that causes a problem for anything beneath the can. Agree with you 100% on Best By doesn't mean expiration date!! That said, acedic foods, such as fruits and tomato products, in metal cans, generally have a relatively short, useful, shelf life. Been my experience, that those often acquire a metallic flavor before the BestBy date arrives. Where possible, buy those products in glass jars, instead. Pasta sauce in glass will last many years beyond the equivalent in metal cans.

Not sure if you have but, you may want to send your rice and some other items, like oatmeal, I think, through the freeze/thaw cycle to get rid of pests. Us newbies often wonder how pests get into sealed food. That’s because they were in there, even inside rice grains and laying microscopic eggs already. May depends upon how fast you go though your stuff though. You can learn more about this and what long term food storage actually is, as its in at least a couple of stages, through The Provident Prepper. That couple has some extensive knowledge.
