When they revealed what was really going on, it reminded me of the kind of twists they used to have in the old Hammer and Amicus horror films of the '70s. The device of the doll is pretty disarming.

exactly! although not all creeps and tension. it should have a good amount of tension before a jumpscare. not always sending a jumpscare ever 2 minutes, Movie and Video Game examples: World War Z, Until Dawn, Poltergeist, Five Nights at Freddy's (i heard there is gonna be a movie, i hope its not all jumpscares), The Grudge (to a certain degree) etc.

I'm a horror movie fan and I disagree with you. check out Guillermo del Toro's new movie it may or may not scare you but the story behind it is great. and this movie looks okay, I might give it a chance. this looks like a definitive version of Annabel we got last year
