- Wilfred visited us to correct his sleep apnea problems. Prof. Hernandez Alfaro performed bimaxillary advancement surgery with counterclockwise rotation to widen his airways and resolve his breathing problems.
Now, Wilfred not only sleeps through the night without interruptions, but he has started doing high-intensity sports, which were not possible before due to his breathing problems.
Great job here. Doesn't look under-advanced or over-advanced, just right. Good choice rotating the CBCT upwards.

Interesting how jaw surgery seems to outperform CPAP in terms of improving sleep (beyond just reducing events) anecdotally.

So my brother suffers from sleep apnea, he's been suffering since October of 2022. He doesn't have too high confidence of this surgery. I'm hoping this will help him 😥

@@Fresh-qc3zn i had a 1.1mm overbite, in the future i will have had struggles esting along with possible gum disease amongst other things so yeah it was pretry important that i had it done

No, that's a side affect of the movements of the maxilla, but can be avoided in most cases, if that's the preference of the patient.
I have a severe overbite but most people can't tell. I've had osa since my whole life and its hard to lose weight. I have panic attacks, and parasomnia including periodic leg movements, night terrors, hallucinations. I'm hoping insurance will cover the surgery, I'm in the us

This will be somewhat random, but I have night terrors and hallucinations when I sleep as well. No medical doctor was able to tell me why. I've looked into it, it's called hypnopompic hallucinations. Most oftentimes, it'll be some animal, mostly snakes and spiders, or a person in my bedroom that I will see at night when I wake up. However, I don't believe I am fully awake during these episodes. usually i will try to run away from the thing i see if i feel scared. Is your experience similar? I've never met anyone else with this before.

do yall put something on their mouth to keep it shut please let me know thats what i am scared of because i looked for info and it said like wide shut for 8 to 12 weeks but is it needed for this surgery?
Hello. That's an outdated practice and very few centers continue to do that. In our center, you wear rubber bands for one week, but you can still open your mouth. After that, they are changed for softer rubber bands that you use to exercise your jaw, but you take them out to eat and wash.

I thought bone needs a surface contact to be reattached.
His upper jaw seems like floating, and other videos also shows tip of the lower jaw extended without surface contact
Is it just fixed by titanium pins?
We fill the bigger gaps with hydroxyapatite to help regeneration, with the smaller gaps there's no need.

Question here: His mandible looks a lot more square and wider after those 18 months. From what I see in the animation his mandible only got moved forward, not sideways. Is there another procedure that lead to this positive result?
His mandible was advanced and rotated, thus its angle has changed.

He hasn't used the machine since the day after his surgery. He came here for a 18-month follow up visit some days ago a didn't present any apneas.
