I still remember picking up my pre-ordered copy from GameStop the day of its release. They had yellow police tape over the door and windows as decoration, but for a second when I was walking up to it I thought something happened and the store was now a crime scene, lol
I love your videos
Your voice sounds even better speaking spanish
I was there too! I had just turned 18 and had someone else with me who (luckily) had their ID on them.
Badger, do you remember on the game informer edition of GTA 5 that was released in 2012, about how they were talking about the graphics and individual blades of grass? It's crazy to think that the PS4 and Xbox one version was maybe originally going to be the 360 and PS3 version, they talked about alot in that magazine, saying that things were changing every second so it's hard to release a GTA game within the times..
man i remember doing the same thing. I was in 8th grade and i convinced my parents to let me skip school the next day and to drive me to the midnights release. Good times
In my GTA Forums days, I remember when Michaels character was called Albert Da Silva (probably just a prototype name). I also remember when the first trailer dropped, everyone was convinced that the guy running from the cops was CJ. And when first pictures of Trevor were shown, people hated him and the forum was full of messages like "I want to be cool, not a hillbilly junkie!" How the times have changed.
edit: One more story I have to share from GTA Forums: There was that one video (which I think is still in the game as an in-universe commercial) that R* released on their website where an npc was shown sitting in a wheelchair outside a hospital. This one guy got really excited and started threads going "Wheelchairs in GTAV CONFIRMED!!!!", and seriously expected a realistic recovery period being part of the game. And then when the game released and there were no wheelchairs, the guy got really mad and felt being lied to by R*, and vowed to never buy a R* product ever again. So he basically hyped himself up with nothing but conjecture and speculation that HE came up with, and got angry that it didn't happen. It was so funny to me.
i thought paleto bay was angel pine
When first pictures of Trevor were shown people thought that he was portrayed by Jack Nicholson
I remember there being a lot of speculation on having to break a character out of the prison that is in the game. Due to the presence of it in screen shots before release. There were also so many people that were saying a couple weeks after release that 'GTA IV was so much better'. I honestly think that was mostly nostalgia, and that we will see a similar thing with GTA VI comes out.
@@DatamasterCorporation EDIT: I misunderstood Datamaster's comment actually. I usually get replies every week calling games 'just nostalgia' and it gets very annoying. This was not one of them, so I apologise
I find calling things just 'nostalgia' is kinda insulting. I personally had every reason to be more nostalgic for GTA 5 than 4 but despite really pushing boundaries I still did not find it as good as 4. there is some things it does better than 5 that some people prefer.
(eg better map, characters, etc)
I didn't even have the thought of GTA 4 is a bit better until years later
As a kid I remember watching the trailer analyses non stop lol
I can understand the cursing limit. Some TV shows try to go the 18+ "mature" route and curse as much as possible, and in the end it just end up feeling like 5th grade recess. I can see said limit as a writing challenge and as a way too keep swearing somewhat impactful throughout the story
Bojack Horseman limits the swearing to one time per season, so when the characters do swear, it shocks you, it's very emotional of an impact.
@@MrWolfSnackother shows I think of is breaking bad, we barely hear the f word and when they say it it hits more
@@billross9132I think of rdr1 because there is like one time john says “fucking” and I was like “wow this is getting serious”
I feel they did that with deadwood, it makes it so hard to watch. Waay too much swearing especially for the time period.
It's funny how Rockstar limited how much actors can swear, yet newer GTA Online DLC still have characters swearing at lot, escially KDJ saying MF.

Man I love it when we get to see early builds of games most people never even know about. If I ever had a video game company, I would want to make a documentary from start to finish about the development, and I would even let the public have access to our earliest builds so that they could see what made it in and what had to be cut.
same here, i like seeing pre-alpha games in development
@@NightRose7w7 I don't understand why they keep the earlier builds a big secret, like wouldn't you want everyone to know how different the game was way before it released??
@@saulbueno5640they just don't care enough to give out early builds especially when they're often lost or require specific connections to an internal server
documentaries cost a lot of time and money and generally aren't worth the expenses in the execs eyes, see previous comment as well for why old builds don't get released
as much as id love to have more prototype versions of games like tf2 it sadly just doesn't happen without a leaker which is illegal
I love it too, it’s crazy how many people don’t realize how game development works, like when 6 got leaked people were saying it looked identical to 5…like ya and 5 looked identical to 4 early on lmao

Fun fact about the cut Heist mission: a remnant of this exists in the dialogue for the mission “Caida Libre” where Trevor suggests scoping out his mansion.
Another fun fact: Some of the mission in the Online are actually repurposed versions of scrapped story mode missions. For example: The EMP setup mission for the Humane Labs Raid was originally a story mission given to Michael from Solomon Richards.
Also the entirety of the Doomsday Heist was supposed to be single player DLC for Trevor, the aforementioned secret agent DLC that is.
@@YondoMoloni source: Vadim M
Wdym? The EMP setup was never a single player mission
@@MikoyanGurevichMiG21 That's also kinda untrue, the only thing that doomsday heist shares with SP DLC is three interiors (Submarine and IAA Facility/Server Farm) and some ideas like Cliffford, everything else is new
@@HeySlickThatsMeIn GTA V’s trailer (I forget which one) there’s a clip of the Hydra shooting a missile at a police helicopter and hitting it, causing it to explode. That’s likely a remnant of said cut mission. In the game files, there’s I think text and/or audio referring to Solomon wanting Michael to steal said Hydra to have it as a prop. The mission was more than likely repurposed (and of course altered to fit the co-op aspect) as one of the setup missions for GTA Online.
It's so sad that the story mode dlc's were cut. I would love to see a zombie dlc.
I watched an interview with Steven Ogg recently and he told that Rockstar was making some extra content for Trevor, but he didn't know what happened. Maybe he was talking about the DLC.
Trevor was one of the original GTAO heists
It's been speculated that all the Single Player DLC was repurposed into GTA Online; Trevor's segment is believed to be what we know as The Doomsday Heist and I'm willing to bet money that the Los Santos Drug Wars DLC was also meant for Trevor but Ogg recently voiced his disdain with the character and wanted to distance himself from it. Dax acts and talks alot like Trevor. They have similar mannerisms too.
Me too... but make it online too. Imagine the whole city without electricity, no lights working, everything being dark... you and your online friends having to use flashlights and night vision to reach a safe place. 95% of cars sitting dead roadside, if you find a car, you will to drive through waves of zombies and its with limited speed & fuel.
Hardest mission going from the docks in the south to a bunker far in the North, mostly on foot. You could plan your routes through certain streets, going through train tunnels, and so on. My 15yr old self would have loved it.
Rockstar has talked about how despite GTA4 and RDR1 being massive successives, their respective DLCs undersold signficantly. Like, at most, both Episodes from Liberty City and Undead Nightmare sold 2 million copies each.
Rockstar gave 2 main reasons as to why.
The first was the fact that these DLCs released almost ane ntire year after their base games. Most of the audience would have played the singleplayer and moved on and weren't interested in the DLC.
The second was that most people don't actually finish Rockstar games. GTA4, V, RDR, RDR2 all have between 20-30% completion ratings. People who haven't completed the game won't feel inclinded to spend more on the game.
In any case, it is almost certain that elements from GTAV's DLC were reworked into Online.
@@FraserSouris It's all of question about having a player base that is going to buy DLCs. Rockstar's player base is used to have the full game and that's it and Rockstar themselves never really attempted to change that, because it would take a lot of long-time support for the games, which isn't really their MO. So I guess it makes sense that they only went that route in Online because online players except long-time support otherwise it dies out.

One thing that annoys me so much is that in the early builds of V and the firsts trailers the vegetation is MUCH MORE DEEP, but they cut it since it was too much for the PS3/360 to handle, and they didn't add it back in the PS4/ONE/PC release neither in the Expanded and Enhanced
It's a gameplay reason
just play rdr2, it's basically Vegetation: the game, lol
The entire game was basically built from the old hardware of PS3 and Xbox 360, and the game only received more contents over the years without receiving any gameplay and mechanics improvement/overhaul onto PS4/Xbox One beyond. Basically the current version of GTA 5 that people play is just a port from the original PS3/Xbox 360 game.
@@channe3049 Which doesn't contain more vegetation, as it would cause significant gameplay obstruction and visual clutter
Fun fact that most people don't know, and I have evidence of this on my gaming channel - you can actually hide in the bushes from the cops and they can't find you.
3:15 looking at the texture names.
i believe those were probably very early images they took for the GTAO character creator.
on PS3/360 you chose the grandparents of your mom and dad.
and then your mom and dad as well iirc.
which seems to line up.
like the mom and dad ones were for the grandparents at that stage and the boy and girl ones were your parents.
I totally forgot about that holy shit yeah.
The 2004-2014 era is unforgettable.
I believe the swearing limit was a story/character reasoning behind it. When you see characters in media constantly just swearing it becomes all they’re really known to do which overshadows all the other things about them.
Rockstar obviously doesn’t want their characters to just be known as some swearing high score attempts (very thin line I must say). So they just limited it to only 5000 swear words per cutscene.
Yeah, that makes sense. The game is quite vulgar with it's language BUT, realistically so.
I kind of wish we got something more from Rockstar for GTA V's 10th anniversary, but Badger Goodger is my gift, love your content Badger keep it up
3:28 These are definitely npcs for gta iv. The npc "boy3s" is used in Kitty0706's video "Introducing Tommy Garcia" as the main character for that video.

although I know they don't really gonna do this(that and the fact that they always being lack in communication with fans in the past), but I hope they will make some behind the scenes or retrospective video, talking about their games, have the developers and the voice actors be in it. you know, like those behind the scenes of a movie.

I really hope GTA 6 is big enough to actually have a reason to use planes, private jets and stuff like that. Can you imagine in real life the trip takes 4 hours but in game it takes 4 minutes to travel. I’m just obsessed with commercial flying and really hope they actually create a map large enough to realistically fly across the map.
Just play flight simulator, silly :p
That's a good idea until you get a mission where you need to go to the other side of the map

The story being rewritten last minute sounds really strange, but also fitting. I wonder if Lamar's cut plot would've been set somewhere around the halfway point of the game, since between the (removed) Sharmoota job and Merryweather heist there's a bizarre chunk of the game where nothing of consequence happens for several hours.
I mean, I think the game is great the way it is, but overall it has a feel that something is missing, most likely due to logistical reasons ingolving the actors, as we've seen here and other reasons.
What cut plot, lmao
@@abemigos9281 Well, for starters, the entire Sharmoota Job string as well as F and T supposedly working with Michael on his Solomon Richards missions.
To be fair, it's rare to actually find a game that wasn't changed signficiantly partway through development. Almost every game changes either due to practicality or due to new information or logictical issues.
If anything, this is actually a good thing because it allows development to be flexible and adapt if something isn't working out or is causing issues.
A good case study is actually the Deus Ex series. Warren Spectre, director of Deus Ex 1, has talked about how they developed a "game bible" for Deus Ex 1 before development started. But by the end of development, only around half of that bible was used in the final product. The other half was either changed or removed and the game was better for it.
He gives the example of the game's opening level. Originally, the game was going to start very slow paced and have the player meet with every NPC in their organization before being sent out on their first mission. in order to properly set up the story, characters and setting. But Spectre noted how this made the experience drag. So he swapped it out with the second level and reworked it so the game started with a sandbox mission on Liberty Island and the whole "meet the squad" part can later and was shorter. The end result was that while the game may stumble to explain its story at first, its gameplay makes a strong first impression and is much more replayable.
In contrast, 2011's Deus Ex Human Revolution actually operated the oppoiste way. The game was planned to a tee beforehand and devs followed their "game bible" as closely as possible. But this ended up causing issues in the final version because even if something wasn't working out, it couldn't be changed. Human Revoution starts by causing the same issue that Deus Ex 1 noticed and avoided by starting with a long drawn out unskippable cutscene introducing the story, characters and plot and therefore drags on every repeat playthrough. Also the bosses.
@@FraserSouris Yeah, but with R* it's special because they're a very opaque dev team and company. The production of V is very mysterious and I'd love to find out more about the process and it's prototypes.
Horses also appear in the pisswasser advert and they used RDR1 gameplay.
3:14 the early meshes in the back are crazy early from likely late 2009. As the buildings dont even have textures and the palm trees are just polygons. Crazy stuff

The Great Ocean Highway bridge over Raton Canyon has signs that say "Blaine County" implying that's where the county border was supposed to start.

Fact 3.
My friend and I used to do a ton of police roleplaying in the xbox 360 days.
We were blown away at the fact that there were good guy bad guy type of roles. And that the sessions would be similar to GTA IV.
11:37 I'm glad they limited swearing because as evident in tons of adult shows, swearing too much can often stifle creativity. It's completely understandable and I'm very glad they took this step. Swearing should be used to make a point and not used 24/7 to the point it loses its meaning/power. ifykwim.
And 1 hour ago, rockstar announced the GTA 6 trailer to be out this December, holy shit.
Your Spanish of La Fuente Blanca it's so satisfying
Watching this after the VI trailer only makes me smile. Great vid dude
Fact #3 is pretty interesting. It sounds very much like APB and I wonder if Rockstar backtracked that idea after seeing the reception of that game. For anyone interested, APB was a 100 mil money pit.
Hmm...
I first played GTA V on my PS3 on launch day. It took me seven months to finish the campaign while starting out in the Online. I'm so happy for all the memories, laughs, friendships, late-night talks, heists, jobs, races, and fun I had with this game. Rockstar is not the company I once trusted, but it did give me a decade of memories with this game.
Fact 10 might be because of the international markets being favored in having little to no swearing in the dialogues. Translations might be tricky, and it can come off as vulgar, having no swear language can also facilitate to keep the focus on the nuances in the story.
I still remember that I wanted a Playstation 3 for my birthday with GTA 5 because my birthday was the day after the release. Unfortunately, I was disappointed, but 2 years later I was able to play the PC version, even though my laptop was far too weak at the time. I was at least able to play it a little. How the time flies :D
Still baffles me that my mom took my 13 y/o ass to the midnight release to pickup my preordered copy. She had no idea what the hype was about, but knew it would make me happy. Many good memories have came from this game alone over the past 10 years.

3:18 maybe it's an early version of the GTAO character creator where you choose the parents?
I wonder if cutting horses was a technical decision or if they cut them to keep GTA and RDR more distinct.
Sure, but watch them add horses to GTA 6 lol
There's no evidence that the alien dlc was ever being worked on but it was considered, the Zombie DLC was for all three characters while Agent DLC was exclusive for Trevor based on leftover files
The quantity of alien content both in the base game and online is strong evidence imo. It's too much to be a one-off joke, they had some kind of lore in mind, and an Alien-centric campaign explains it perfectly.
The swear limit was surprising to me too, because like you said. Almost every f*cking line has pretty much every f*cking curse word in the f*ckin book. lmao
Still, I think that limitations around swearing makes no sense for a game rated 18+ or M for mature.
What's funny Rockstar limit amount of swearing, yet still allows character to constantly swear in GTA Online. Rockstare clearly allowed KDJ to use "MF" a lot.

I was hoping you might get into the reasons why you love this game so much and why you would watch hours of useless information about this game unconditionally. I just wanted to find out why people like you regardless of sex or age, that when a game that has tarnished a legacy before it, can make you lost in emotion and nostalgia with out even asking yourself what made you "love" this game? I will give you an example, I LOVE Halo 2. Halo 2 is a masterpiece because the devs put their heart and soul into the game and even though it had lots of missing content the game still to this day holds up because unlike GTA v or any other modern game it was meant to entertain and give meaning to the game and gamers so when looked back at it it was not just nostalgia, but actual fond memories.
i was 13 years old when V came out. It was surreal and 10 years later i’m still hopping into the story mode.
"man, sorry horse"
The way you pronounced "La fuente blanca" was just perfect
Whelp. The first trailer for 6 was dropped…we still have 2 years for that story DLC @rockstar games
These 10 years have seemed like 100 years purely because Rockstar has *never* fully communicated anything with us. They've dropped indecipherable cryptic messages in the form of Newswire posts but other than that, they've kept their trap shut on everything they're doing on the inside. Which I suppose a Shareholder can make the argument of "blah blah blah it's their company blah blah blah" or whatever but this is beyond asinine. We've given our heart and soul to this company for 20+ years now and we've gotten very little in return for the past 10. It's absurd how shut and closed they are about even the smallest things, such as why exactly they removed 200 cars from the in-game stores.
that isnt cryptic. its a move to make you pay more money. extended monetization for their 10 year old game.
Little in return lol , stop being entitled
It’s called building hype. And people do the advertising for them. Have you ever seen a Tesla or Lamborghini ad? Exactly

The swearing limit is due to the fact that in other countries a certain amount of swearing gets the game an AO rating - which is a death sentence for videogames. No retailer will stock it.
The game is so old now I found it in my history book
I think GTA V still has beta assets in the game, with regards to the textures.
When you're looking at different things in-game, and change the LOD (level of detail) of things like signs, the textures become blurrier, but the texture itself changes.
Some change very little, while others change a lot. It's like they rendered the LOD of all the textures in the game at different times, instead of at the end with the final textures.
This is something I'd seen years ago and I have never seen anybody mention online since. In honestly, I don't know if it's a known thing or not.
It is a thing in every GTA game
Every videogame has this, it's how texture mapping works. Nothing to remark about.
bro im a gamedev and hearing about development cycles of other games and seeing how games progressed over their development cycle is always interesting, this video is awesome its nice seeing how the map looked like with the GTA 4 graphics
I like these types of vids, shows you how much effort is spent developing these giant games. I imagine it’s hell lol
I remember seeing release gameplay of a car being driven in the game. Then I remember an official trailer being released earlier that year and I was so excited but at the same time I had over 6 months left before the game dropped. The day it came out I picked up my preorder and went to work. I’m still on that job.
Your videos are awesome they make my day when you post them. Keep up the amazing work
I was there at the midnight release. The whole shopping centre was closed, dark and empty except for one shop which was allowed to stay open to sell the game. I still have my pre-order poster!
On the way to Paleto bay you can see a sign that says that Blaine county is forward despite the sign already being in Blaine County and I feel like a location based on Palm Springs was cut
early online feels like APB: Reloaded, if you remember that game
the cut horses from rdr 1 were later reused in rdr2
I find it funny that nobody mentions that the foliage in the game had to be completely redone, back on the ps3/Xbox360 ports. Back then R* struggled to get the game running properly. A leak said it ran at 13 fps. therefore all of the foliage was removed. All the foliage was then placed, but reduced significantly. If you take a look at some of the screenshots from the portfolios, it shows the old much more dense foliage, even the original trailer does it. The end result ended up being more empty spots, dotted all around the map. The saddest part, that build carried over from xbox360/ps3 to the later ps4/xbox one (although i got upgraded significantly), and now series SX and PS5. We never witnessed gta folliage at its glory.
I remember when I was modding San Andreas PC I added more trees and shrubs to the abandoned airport to make it seem more abandoned and it looked so nice.
I remember how PS3 version had like 6 character slots with all of them except two being locked away... now if im not mistaken, with RDR2 we only have one character. Makes me wonder about GTA VI.
@@SuperGeronimo999 Lamar was one of the cut characters that we could play. But it got scraped due to him getting in some legal trouble.
It would still run at 13fps today. Ultra Grass quality on PC is an insane performance hit as is, something about how they fundamentally render it is fucked.
This is the first time there hasn’t been a gta title between gta number changes. Between 4-5 there was tlad, tbogt, and gta chinatown wars. Now it just went from 5-6
See you in another 10 bro. The re-release of GTA V “for current audiences” along with Skyrim will be released by then and GTA VI will still be in development.
I remember going over to a friends house a week or so after launch and playing it on his 360. I was blown away, it was awesome.
In regards to the "Swear Limit", I have a thought as to why it was imposed and it probably did had something to do with the ESRB
Now to preface, I'm going to briefly touch upon a documentary released ages ago simply titled "F*CK". It was all about the swear word and it was used so extremely that the film was given the rarely-seen "NC-17" rating. With this in mind, perhaps Rockstar did not want to feature *too* much swearing in GTA V because otherwise the ESRB may rate the game not as "M" for Mature but rather "AO" for Adults Only. If GTA V was rated "AO", it would be a death sentence in terms of sales. A majority of physical retailers will not sell AO-rated games. Sony and Microsoft outright prohibit AO-rated titles. The only 'viable' way for Rockstar to sell an AO-rated GTA V would be through the PC but though online distributors like Steam allow AO games, they hide them by default.
Rockstar fans will be keenly aware of the company's past troubles with GTA: San Andreas being re-rated as "Adults Only" when the Hot Coffee stuff came to light. That, in addition to Manhunt 2 being rated as AO before it had changes made to get that "M" rating. Rockstar would definitely not want to endure the headache of *another* AO rating so its best to avoid it altogether.
AFAIK no video game rating board has a clear-cut rule on language like the MPAA has (South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut has exactly 399 swear words since they'd get slapped with NC-17 at >= 400). The ESRB and PEGI (the only boards truly relevant to Rockstar's revenue) don't seem to have ever cared about language for ratings M and 18 respectively (GTA has been 18 since PEGI's inception).
@@kontenterrorist2449 Perhaps without a clear rule, Rockstar decided to play it safe
it still feels ridiculous that in a game where you see Trevor have sex with people, squish a person's brain against the ground and then peel it off his shoes, see people eviscerated by jet engines as you see their red mist fly away, where you see Trevor heat up and eat a human meat stew, have a functioning strip club and prostitutes, that the part that might get this classified as adult only is swearing? Classification boards are weird.
10 years and billions later and all we got from Rockstar was a "thanks guys" .. Smfh disrespectful to the players and the game itself
I feel like the Martin madrazzo heist could have been so good
The swearing thing makes sense when you think about how none of the sex and violence is real. But the swearing is. You can’t fake swearing like you can fake sex and gore.
I just realized at 2:19 if you look at the map, this is probably the closest we’ll ever be to that cut 3rd culdesac. It’s a shame that we can’t see it though, I wanna know what it looked like SO BAD.

i actually thought at fact 10 that you were going to mention the altered dialogue between michael and trevor in the beginning of mission “by the book”. for those who don’t know, it was recently discovered that originally trevor casually called michael “my n***a” during their sarcastic dialogue, but in the final version he calls him “sugartits”.
i can totally see why they changed that though, since it just sounds weird and off-putting, but maybe the initial idea was that trevor thought he kinda gained an n-word pass after spending some time with franklin, but that just my silly speculation
Trevor is definitely the type of person to sarcastically use "my nigga" in a mocking way to people
@@MrWolfSnack i have to add that after listening to the actual thing, trevor didn’t even say it like that (toned down). he full on used hard R. that’s actually pretty weird if you ask me and idk what rockstar were cooking
This gets weirder when you consider that Slink(Lamar) said there were no N-words in the script he was given and he made them all up. So as far as we know, that was the only instance of it that Rockstar intended
10:59 why did you backhand him so hard he was just standing there😂

Can't wait for 10 more GTA V dev facts
I was 17 years old when GTA 5 came out. Those ten years felt like a lifetime ago.
I’m so glad they scrapped the idea of the CnC multiplayer for the Online we got. There’s no way this game survives as long as it has with that style of multiplayer.
I enjoyed it in the smaller GTA IV, but I do not think it would fit in GTA V the way it was in IV and it seems as though that’s what they were going for at first.
Whether you like or dislike the Online mode, it has allowed such an awesome game to thrive for a decade.
10 facts, 10 years of gta 5, 10 years of disappoinment
I hope rockstar considers having you on for an in universe podcast.
For real, that podcast must include, The Professional, Vadim and Dark Space.
In regards to Lamar's bigger role within the story, my guess is that option C was originally supposed to be Franklin's death, and then you would have played as Lamar for the rest of the game and the endgame freemode. This is evident by the fact that Lamar has unused activity outfits in the files, such as a tennis outfit and, I believe, a triathlon outfit as well. Also, if you use the R* editor to play as Lamar and then head to the Families hood, NPC's will have unique dialogues greeting Lamar. So, this is my speculation regarding Lamar's original bigger role within the game's narrative.
He only has a tennis outfit which was an activity he could do with Franklin but it was cut
Families talk to Lamar when you hang out with him, there's no evidence that there ever was a different ending where Franklin dies
The theory about Lamar being playable after Franklin dying is a huge stretch. All his additional voice lines that sound like they could be for a main character exist because you engage in combat with him during missions and have the ability to hang out with him outside of the story. Most of the characters have unique dialogues like this, but Lamar simply had more because you see him more in the game.
This option actually makes sense.
@@El_Soy *a long stretch
