    Leaving aside the differences between our two churches, I find myself deeply moved to see the Patriarch and the Pope embrace in this way and especially to see them share a moment of personal prayer together. The theological and ecclesiastical differences between our churches are considerable, but this sign of mutual love and respect is surely how we should treat one another. May our Lord Jesus Christ, through the prayers of His Most Blessed Mother, bless and keep these two hierarchs.

    As an Antiochian Orthodox I believe God has truly blessed us at this time with these two great men. May their love and grace towards each other be an example of how we should treat each other. May the words of Christ fill our hearts.
    John 17:21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
    22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:
    23 I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.

    "One of the oldest Christian communities in the middle east". How about THE oldest Christian community. Acts 11 (In Antioch they were first called Christians). Throne of St. Peter. Yes my adorable Catholic friends, Peter was in Antioch before he was in Rome. Lest we forget, Christianity comes from the middle east not Italy. Christ is Risen. A blessed Pascha to you all. Oh and by the way. Impressed that the Bishop of Rome Pope Francis is a man of the poor. Take a look at most Orthodox Patriarchs. Surrounded by poverty with many living in extremely hostile environs where their very lives are constantly at risk. What a tragedy that there are so few Christians left in the land of its founding by Christ himself, God incarnate. No palatial surroundings for them. God bless.

    Actually, while it's true that Peter was chief of the disciples and their elder brother, he is nowhere referred to as a "Vicar of Christ" or "head of the church." There is only one head of the Church - our Lord Jesus Christ. The rock upon which our Lord built his Church was not Peter, but rather his confession of faith. I am all for dialogue and a spirit of brotherhood, but the papal pretensions of Rome (supremacy, infallibility, etc) are the most divisive ideas in the history of Christendom.

    The pope is not proficient in the English language because he claims to be tone-deaf. English is difficult language, it is not the same as Spanish and/or Italian -- the pope's preferred languages -- wherein you pronounce most of the words as is spelled. It is not the same as in English. (I am also tone deaf and hard of hearing but I was lucky enough that I was born in a country wherein English is the official language)

      Do you speak any Spanish or Italian, by any chance? I'm very sorry to contradict you, but both Italian and Spanish (and French and Portuguese, i.e., Romance languages) are NOT easy languages as you seem to suggest. Their syntax, their inflections, their conjugation systems are far more complex than the uncomplicated English way of saying things. In fact, one of the main reasons English is so popular today is because it's a very simple language to grasp, and thus it becomes ideal to make business. In fact, English is the easiest language of the Germanic linguistic family. I happen to teach Spanish at a University in the U.S. (and am fluent in Italian, German, French, and Portuguese), and let me tell you this: the students who struggle the most to get things right in Spanish are those whose native language is English.

      Parlo italiano, si; Hablo espanol tambien. Poquito, no mas. Spanish used to be our lenguaje oficial. I'm not a language specialist nor do I teach languages. You did not read through what I just wrote --- English is not the same as Spanisn or Italian wherein you pronounce the words as is spelled.
      A E I O U is pronounced as A E I O U in Spanish.. in English you pronouncd the vowels differently : A becomes EY.. E is EEEE, I is AHY, O is OW, and U is YOU.
      Yes English is the universal language, why? I will guess.. maybe because the United States of America is the most powerful and richest amd most influential nation in the world. To show you their of power and influence: our lenguaje oficial was Spanish.. in fifty years they erased Spanish in our culture and made us speak English, and they were good ay that. Why? As our historians opined, may not be the official reason, so that we will watch their movies, read their magazines, and becomes americanized to cater to their products. The Americans are shrewd business people. That's why they are very rich.

      melancholicme123 So más fáciles que el Ingles desde el púnto de vista de la fonética, desde el púnto de vista de la gramática el Igles adolece de género y eso hace que sus adjetivos, adverbios, articulos y sustantivos sean más fáciles de pronunciar. Pero el Ingles pierde especificidad comparado con el Español.

    • @elremgg1355
      @elremgg1355 Před 10 lety +1

      The Orthodox Church has several Apostolic Patriarchs, and the Catholic Church has only 1, the Roman Pontiff. And Jesus prayed that we shall be one. St. Peter ended his days in Rome and it is therefore this bishopric that his successors occupy. The Eastern Churches were not established by Roman missionaries - they were established independent of Rome.
      Christ build his church on himself as the unshakeable rock that evil can't triumph over he gave Saint Peter the keys to heaven. It is the Church that St Peter is head of that will be the only way to heaven (as symbolised by the keys), there is no other way to heaven apart from the VISIBLE institution that St Peter himself was made the head of.
      [18] And I say to thee: That thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. [19] And I will give to thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven. And whatsoever thou shalt bind upon earth, it shall be bound also in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose upon earth, it shall be loosed also in heaven.
      -- quoted from comments at Catholic Answers.

      Dude, saint Peter as well Paul and everyone else back then were Orthodox. And those two apostles also found Patriarchate of Antioch, which remained Orthodox, as you can see in this video.
      All what Rome does is changing dogma, worship, traditions, and now, you look tragicomic, and Roman-Catholicism is dead, your Churches are empty and world accuses Christianity for many things because of the sins of Rome.

    • @elremgg1355
      @elremgg1355 Před 10 lety +8

      The Roman Catholic Church is the church founded by Jesus and is not dead. We are 1.3 billion strong worldwide, and is united and universal. The Orthodox churches are very regional, the Roman Catholic Church is one, united, universal. Pope Francis said that the Church or the Body of Christ compose of sinners and saints. If the members are holy and perfect then we dont need Christ. We need Christ because we are imperfect. And he said the Church is like a hospital where t he sick (sinners) come to be healed, repaired and restored. I am a traveller and had travelled to all 6 continents except Antartica. The liturgy in Rome is the same in Manila, as in Sydney, as in New York, as in Jerusalem as in Guam, as in Ankara, as in Johannesburg.. and so on. And the True Church is UNITED AND ONE AND UNIVERSAL. Only the Roman Catholic Church is such, and we only have one leader, the Bishop of Rome, the Vicar of Christ, Pope Francis.

    Did you know Pope Benedict visited the House of the Virgin Mary in 2006 and celebrated Mass? Virgin Mary is thought to have spent her last years there. She died and Her grave is near the House! St. John brought Virgin Mary to Ephesus to avoid persecution by the Jews and Romans. He wrote the books of John and Revelations in 95 a.d. He spent his last days there. He died and was buried next to the Brasilia of St. John!

      +josephsiler1946 study the Church fathers interpretation on this. I think the issue is on the language. Because if Mary has other sons and daughter, Jesus would have Mary to them after his death. But since he entrusted his mother to Apostle John, You could say Mary has no other Child. Can you site any verse that states their Mother is also Mary the Mother of Jesus?
