It’s funny because Portuguese(along with western Spaniards) have the highest North African ancestry in Europe so they should have no place to discriminate.

Cape Verde is AFRICA, come here in Brava and try to say that you are not african but mixed because of your 2% Portuguese blood, they will laugh of you. My dad is not mixed European at all. If that's your real picture then it's proof that you're the one with denial issues. I had a good friend in Lisbon from Cabo Verde, looked far more African than you, and she told me stories about how her father had stunning blue eyes and how everyone was just as proud of their European roots as they were of their African. Mixed peoples have the privilege to draw pride from multiple cultures. It's a shame you're choosing not to benefit from that privilege.

Look at the size of the Americas... look at the size of the cape verdean islands... what happened?... Genocide... now you tell me which one has a better succes rate of having survivors.... If the native americans don't keep their heritage in mind in a few hundred years there will be no mention of native americans in history at all

That's what I mean.. HISTORY IS WRITTEN BY IT'S WINNERS... And if we are lucky ( like there still being native americans ) we can see the bs in the writings... Second the grounds were no good for farming needs for the productionmarket.... it was well good enough for an little population... The Cape Verdeans that live there would die if they couldn't farm....
If there were any natives there there wouldn't be that many.. and knowing how the europeans worked with the colonizations it is not far fetched to think they would exterminate those few people that might have been there and then say yea we discovered it!..

My great grandma and grandfather came to the United States from the Cape verd island of Brava. A lot of my uncle's would go back and bring things or send things over from the state's. I use to give my uncle Victor toys and clothes to send over. My uncle Victor would tell me so many stories about the island and about family that we still have there. Unfortunately the older generation is passing away and with them. The food and the stories. I miss my great grandma Barros so much. She was an amazing women who raised 11 children. All by herself after my great grandfather died. I try to teach my children the few things I do remeber, but we just lost my grandma and I miss her cooking so much! They taught us to be strong and proud. Even though I'm only half Cape verd. I was lucky enough to be raised around all my Cape verd family. The love we got can't ever be replaced. I would of loved to have known so much more then I did. I tell everyone that to share stories and food with there children and children's children because so much gets lost along the way. So I tell them to hold on to it all and never forget not just what you are but who you are. Thank you for sharing your story. It reminds me A lot of my own family and our journey. Thank you

Al Lomba u ask why are people without a connection to CV care what CV people are? the one universal thing that perpetuates hate, slavery, racism and genocide is ignorance and not caring about each other unless they are "like" you. a long time ago (biblical times) someone made up hate-strictly-based-on-being the wrong race and made it a tradition to pass along---later color was added to the mix. The best combat against racism is acceptance of diversity and caring about each other begins acceptance. peace.

There is some historical inaccuracy about the name of Cape Verde (Green)...It wasn't green (verde) when the Portugueses find the islands. The name of Cape Verde derives of a cape named cape verde in the African coast, that´s why they called it the islands of cape verde (Green)

      Etymology[edit]
The name of the country stems from the nearby Cap-Vert, on the Senegalese coast,[5] which in its turn was originally named "Cabo Verde" when it was sighted by Portuguese explorers in 1444, a few years before the islands were discovered (verde is Portuguese for "green"). On October 24, 2013 it was announced at the United Nations that the official name should no longer be translated into other languages. Instead of "Cape Verde", the designation "Republic of Cabo Verde" is to be used.[4][6]

Because it is not pronounced Ver-deh in Cape Verde. It is either pronounced Verdi or Verd. Ver-deh is how it would be pronounced in Spanish.
It is weird though to hear the American version "Verrd", but American English doesn't have an equivalent sound for the er combination as found in Portuguese and Kriolu/Kriól.

CVNHOUSTON dude, you go away, what the fuk u talkinga bout, me clowning CV ?? when? why would i do that? idk i just notice ur "cv" name now, what's up with that?
We our proud of all our Afro influence culture, unlike Black American who want to force us to deny who we are and try to ashamed us for being proud of all our cultures. .
The difference is that we don't give 3 crap about Europe or Africa, we are Latinos and we consider both continents STRANGERS.
Yes we our proud of the 3 heritage that made a Dominican, but it's OUR now.
I could say the same thing about u guys.. " we are proud of our European heritage unlike you Cape Verdeans" exactly... but that would be stupid cuz I DO NOT know ur culture, i CANNOT judge your culture throw the Afro-Americanized racial/cultural/experience point of view.
You went to Dominicans bashing us and talking crap about a people you CLEARLY didn't know, am not even here bashing or talking crap about Cape Verdeans unlike you who took Black American side and you look our TOTALLY different culture throw the Black Afro-Americanized view/culture/lent.
I live in Mass and there are town full of your people here in the south of boston and black American treat your ppl like crap and i have hear many calling you guys "self haters" because many of u guys don't all yourselves "blacks" even thought the majority are Mixes and LOVE to identify as Cape Verdean BEFORE identifying as "blacks".
So we aren't the only one being attack by jealousy black americans, you guys are too, together with Puerto Ricans, Cubans, and other Mixes Latinos who do not identify as "blacks".

HOW IRONIC... SMH.
Dominicans had suffer alot by the hand of the Haitians, in the late 1800's the Haitians stole a big chunk of our border when they imported and order Haitians to move to our border side, and no body could stop them, and it was so many that we went to the international community but the I.C. failed us when they gave our land to the Haitians bcs the part of the border was full of them. One quarter of the Haitian today territory was part of the D.R.
Then decades pass and during Trujillo time, the Haitians try to do the same thing, by sending Haitians to our border, AGAIN, and Trujillo knew of what the Haitians were trying to do again, and he send many massage to the Haitians ordering them to stop sending haitians and to take their people back, He knew the Haitians plan but they never listen to him, and he order his soldier to take the Haitians back to Haiti and this is were the killing of Haitians happened bcs Trujillo was trying to protect the Dominican territory NOT bcs they were black as many Afrocentrics and Black Supremacy had try to twist the history, of course i do not support the killing but what he was doing was protecting the DR territory.

The Lomba family is a perfect example of why you never want to separate children from their parents. Our society places too much emphasis on the material. And yes no doubt today the family enjoys what appears to be an upper middle class lifestyle. However, being separated from her mother for 10 years left a deep scar in her psyche and in spite of 30 year she continues to suffer pain in quiet desperation. My personal opinion is best to remain poor but together rather than separate and rich. You be the judge.
