I'm 40 years old so I missed alot of the 8-Track distribution and grew up on cassette tapes. I grabbed an 8-Track player awhile back and started collecting some 8-Tracks. This video was helpful. I may look at more indepth videos. This was a nice introduction. I used to fix cassettes all the time and even VHS tapes too.

    Hi Jeff.
That was a very interesting video.
8 track was never popular in germany.
    Unfortunately.
I have only one Beatles 8 track in my collection. But no player for it.
Only to show in the collection.
I'm looking forward to your next video.
    Cheers my friend. 🤘

I really liked this video. I am 23 years old and have had a minor fascination with 8-tracks since I was younger. The production value on this video in addition to your calm demeanor deserves more views.
My grandmother first told me of 8-tracks when I was a kid and the “Quadrasonic” player in their late-70s Mercury Grand Marquis. It came with a demonstration tape called “Ford Presents a Kaleidoscope of Contemporary Quadrasonic Sound” which had many pretty songs on it. She said one day when heading to work, the tape got chewed up to a point where she took it to a repair shop and they pulled countless feet of tape out of the player. I ended up finding a track list of the tape itself and made a tribute playlist of it on Spotify. I wish I could hear the real tape some day but I don’t have a player or a copy of the tape itself. If I ever get them, I want to upload it to CZcams for all to enjoy.

      Hello and Good Evening!
Thank you very much for all of your very kind words my friend, I appreciate it and I’m humbled by them!
I am so glad you enjoyed seeing the video and hopefully as much as I did hearing your story about your grandmother and it reminded me of when I was younger and that exact thing happened to me more times then I cared to remember. With that being said it’s what prompted me to teach myself to start learning how to repair them instead of just throwing them away, with no internet 40+ years ago when I was a kid I didn’t have much of a choice …LoL! I have a Ford 8-track tape as well that was passed on to me in beautiful condition a few years ago. I will have to pull it out and check out the track list and see if maybe it is the same as your grandmother’s, how awesome would that be! You’ll have to send me the track list and I can let you know even though it is not exactly the same copy as the one you described to me in your story!
Thanks so much for watching, your amazing comment and of course your kind words!

      Hey NammaN,
Super excited to be able to get this tape working for Scott especially since it’s such a fantastic album and a format favorite of mine and slowly he is building up his collection in eight tracks. They already brought back vinyl and cassettes so they may as well bring back eight track tapes so I can stop working on them and just buy new, although they would probably be twenty dollars and only last for a year or two like everything else made today…cheap and disposable for big money LoL. Yes Scott does plan on recording the opening of the box when he gets it but watching his Mail videos they are usually two weeks out because of his busy schedule. Maybe knowing his Kiss tape and a few extras are back to him it will bump mine up to the front of the line…LoL. His link is in the description or I will let you know when I see that post.
Enjoy your day and the Cheap Trick concert, too bad that they weren’t opening for Kiss and get a two for the price of one…well maybe not for $5.00 .
      Take care buddy! ~ Jeff

@@JefferyRusnock If you going to stop working on them and there is no more opportunity for these videos than I wish 8 track don't come back! LOL Seriously tho, I have mix feeling about these vintage medias making a comeback. For instance Vinyl Records are way more expensive now days. New ones are over priced unless there are super discount sales (i.e. Garth's) . Used and old ones are sometime priced higher than the new ones. Plus, I miss buying those 99 cents cassettes at Half Price Book stores. :( Those same cassettes are now high as $7 especially the ones that has music that you and I would like. And yet here I am going to Cheap Trick concert for $5!!! LOL
But yea, still no KISS concert for $5. They are not called Cheap KISS! :)
Oh, btw, I subbed to Scott channel so I will be notified directly by him. I am looking forward to his reaction video. :) Welp, off to looking Cheap Trick CD! Have good one Jeff!

Those RCA tapes are a real pain! Some of the Atlantic ones with the screw in the middle are a pain too because you have no choice but to damage the label. The Columbias are the best by far, IMO, and from my experience, they are also the less problematic and rarely need taken apart lol. Funny thing is, I used that method of rewinding a tape back onto the spool before. I had to teach myself. I started collecting 8 tracks back in 2000 when I was 10, and had no choice but to learn the basics myself. As a Classic Rock junkie, that was the cheapest and easiest way to get more into the music and build a pretty good Rock & Roll collection without spending a lot of money, which back then, i didnt have.

My favorite are definitely the 3 tab verity that open up from the front and more times then not the label hinges open and doesn’t even get ruined during the process!
I had to figure it out myself as well since I had no internet back in the 70’s & 80’s when I was buying them, sounds like great minds think alike…lol!

Good Friday evening Jeff. I wanted to be the first to say it is great to see you back. You may be building yourself a little side job in the VC as a all things tape repairman. I do not believe that anyone else is doing these classic repairs and I do know how experienced you are in this field. You not only repair but you also add the necessary parts needed for the repair. Now that is what I call experienced. Heck I did not know that Scotty was into the Rollers from Bay City and the People from the Village. That is a far stretch from metal. {smile} Scotty is the man.
Super solid fix there on Kiss's debut. Professional to the Deuce. As easy as one, two, three for you. Maybe as easy and 31, 32 and 33 to me. Fantastic job Jeff. Enjoy the weekend to zee fullest~

Hey Rob how is your weekend going? I would definitely be okay with a side job as a repair man fixing 8-tracks tapes and players for friends like Scott. How great would that be able too fix and listen to all that vintage format classic rock music and get paid for it…my kind of job! I know Scott is collecting specific bands and I am so glad to take them off his hands to use for spare parts but they actually are good enough for the tape collection instead of the parts collection…LoL . I guess my love for eight tracks is finally starting to rub off on people like Scott, too bad that they didn’t have much metal out in the eight track days. Thank you so much for all your very kind words buddy I appreciate it very much!
Take care Rob and enjoy the ENDLESS SUMMER and rest of your weekend! ~ Jeff

Hey Edd, I know exactly were you are coming from, Even when I find them they are sooo used because they are soooo. Good you could hardly make out the label front and back. I always left a few of my favorites in the car growing up which caused a lot of bubbles in the label from heat, but I didn’t really care since back then I figured that they would be around for ever…wrong! Lol ONLY THE GOOD DIE YOUNG!!!

Hi Jeffrey! You may be my saving grace right now. Lol! I don’t know if you have ever heard of the 1978 Migo 2XL, but it is a trivia robot that uses eight track tapes and asks you trivia questions. I have 14 of these at the moment and two of them are all kinds of messed up! I think one just has a twist in it somewhere near the foil splice, and the other one feels bound up inside or something. I’m almost afraid to ask, but do you handle repairs like this as well as replacing the sensingfoil and the felt pads? Where are you? And what do you charge?
    Thanks.

      @JefferyRusnock  Před 2 lety

      Hello there,
sounds like you have quite a nice collection! If they are indeed an 8-track cartridge it should be fairly straight forward fix but it is always unknown of the extent of the problem until the case is opened. Please can you send me some clear photos of your cartridges front and back including the front tape side by email so I can see what they look like. I’m in Pennsylvania and if you cover the cost of shipping that’s fine I can take a look at the problems and repair .

@@JefferyRusnock thank you thank you thank you! I will do my best to take good pictures. I am totally blind so… If they stink just tell me and I will try again. The only other person who was willing to do this is in Canada and I would have to wait longer to get it done if I sent them to him.
I have a sinking feeling that one of the felt pads inside the bound up tape has come loose and flowed along with the ribbon into the dark and dangerous twisted unknown. I only found somefibrous remains in the bottom of the tape well I guess you would call it? Lol! The area where the tape rides.
The other one was playing if a little jerkily and then it got to the foil splice. It just stopped moving completely so I hurried up and pulled it out of the robot. There was a clear crease in the middle of the splice and the rest of the tape is rolled over. I can’t tell the top from the bottom of the ribbon so I don’t know if I could straighten the twist myself. This really irks me because I can splice compact cassettes pretty well. This should be a lot easier because the tape is so wide. I just don’t know what I’m dealing with. My intent was (at least with the twisted tape) was to remove the side that was twisted entirely as in pull it out from the left side, cut the original splice out, put a new foil splice in there and secure it with some kind of glue, and then take the rolled over end and flip it in the other direction and then secure that end to the new foil splice and leave it all in a wad for about a day until everything dried and then wind it back up? It sounds easy but I guess I just don’t have very much confidence.

I was just curious Jeff. Does similar issues happen with cassettes. I cannot recall it happening to cassettes. Obviously, not ever owning a eight track cartridge I do not have experience with them. One thing people say the first two albums sound muddy in the production. Sure they could have been produced better, but I think they both sound fine.

    • @JefferyRusnock
      @JefferyRusnock  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey Robert,
not a problem with cassettes as they don’t have splicing to them, they are not a continual loop of tape like 8-tracks are and each end is connected to the reals of the cassette cartridge. I actually have less issues with 8-track tapes and the players, since I bought 8-tracks as a kid and cassettes weren’t around until later as I was growing up I have a lot more tapes and parts for the 8-track format. I only noticed Hotter Than Hell sounds like it was recorded in a tunnel somewhere and even Kiss admitted to the poor production. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!

I don’t have any magic bullet for fixing it is work to wind back up if you lose the two ends inside but slowly spin it until you get to the ends. I do it on an empty track cartridge. czcams.com/video/Gklj7p-Bu7w/video.html video may help you A look inside from several years ago.
