  • How to make a portable jigsaw jig that uses bearings to help making perfect vertical cuts in wood. Sure you already know my jigsaw table and the blade guide with bearings. Well, this is something like a portable jigsaw table. I show how to make it, step by step, and we see how to use it to cut wood. This is a great way to cut wood straight with a jigsaw. With this woodworking tool will be more easy to make nice woodworking projects. A do it yourself video about how to make this simple homemade woodworking tool that will help to avoid crooked vertical cuts when we use the jig saw to cut wood.

This is potentially better than a portable bandsaw. Your builds are brilliant. I have many purchased tools. I see your builds as improvement to the woodworking applications that a person like me might want to buy a solution. You inspire me to build more of my tools.

A lot less complicated than any other jigsaw jig I have seen, and works better. I like it. I definitely will be making something along these lines, probably with minor changes because I am not needing a jig quite this accurate. I have subscribed. I am 83, started in woodworking helping my carpenter grandfather when I was about 7, but, can always learn.

Well, expectations vs realities are always way different...I did not make a single straight cut...Immediately searched for videos like this and this looks practical and simple...Waiting for the sun to rise and make this first... We all learn on mistakes, but I've learnt a thing about jigsaw in a really hard way. Years ago, I was about 20, freshly started to work in the construction. My first experience with jigsaw was stunning - what a great tool! Fast, safe, accurate.... I was on a job which involved also fitting three bespoke doors in clients house and as you can imagine, these need to be trimmed slightly at the bottom. The disaster did happen... on the other side of the cut... ooops...

I was desparately thinking of something that can help make staight cuts using jigsaw. I was so desparate that I almost left the idea and decided to figure out a way to cut using hand saw. When I saw this video I got very surprised that I can use the jigsaw in this way. Using your tool I will be able to cut off very small width like 2mm off which help when you realise that the part you have just cut is a bit longer by mistake.

Perhaps you are not doing things 100% correctly, or not using a good enough blade or jigsaw. I started many years ago (1970's) when I used to build dozens of Speaker systems. I had to cut many feet of thick plywood in order to open the circular holes for 3 or more speakers and the rear connections on each box! My first attempt was lousy, because I used a cheap, amateur level jigsaw from Black & Decker's inexpensive line, that had a hard and brittle plastic body... The blades were of low quality black stamped steel and had coarse tooth. Soon I realized that I needed a better saw, and my dear father bought me a much better one at SEARS (back when they used to sell good tools!), still from B&D, but the one with cast aluminum body. That little jigsaw gave me good service, but was no match for my old, still working perfectly Bosch AVS-1587 Variable speed powerful jigsaw, bought in 1996. By using Bosch's excellent quality jig saw blades made in Switzerland, my old Bosch saw produces high quality cuts rivaling circular saw cuts made with fine tooth blades...
I even bought one of the older Bosch saw rail system guides, and with it, my jigsaw produces long (55 inches) perfectly straight cuts in up to 1.5 inch thick plywood (two stacked 3/4" Sheets or thick MDF... it is not that fast, but definitely can produce high quality cuts.
