  • Three weeks ago, the Baltimore Orioles demoted the games top prospect, Jackson Holliday BACK down to AAA Norfolk to make some adjustments, following a 2 for 34 start at the plate to begin his major league career. Citing the need for every day at bats, Orioles GM Mike Elias expects Jackson Holliday to be back in the big leagues soon. In the meantime, Holliday has become the everyday second baseman for the AAA Norfolk Tides. So how exactly HAS Holliday been doing at the plate since his demotion back to AAA?
As of the making of THIS video, Jackson Holliday is 13 for 53 with a home run, four doubles, eight singles, 16 WALKS, and 13 strikeouts in his at bats back in AAA. Let’s dive into the numbers. But before we do, if you could, please do me a quick favor and make sure you’re subscribed to my channel so you don’t miss out on any updates on Jackson Holliday while he’s down in the minors. I know it can be tedious to try and find minor league stats, so I want to make this channel a place where you can come to get those updates. I’ll be keeping you all in the loop with how things are going for Holliday, and when we can expect him to make his return to the major leagues.
Back to business, In order of his 14 games back in AAA, here are his stats:
Game 1- 0 for 4 with an intentional walk and a strikeout
    Game 2- 1 for 4 with a double
Game 3 has been his best game back in AAA to this point. Holliday went 3 for 6, with a double and 2 singles. He put together some quality at bats, and the results showed it. This was a very encouraging sign, as he had gotten just TWO hits during his ENTIRE stay in the big leagues.
In Game 4 he took a step back, however, going 0 for 4 with a walk.
Game 5 was an interesting one- 0 for 2 with FOUR walks. At that point he had a nice 3 game stretch from games 3-5 with an on base percentage of .470.
This was lowered however in his 6th game, where he went 1 for 4 with a double and 2 strikeouts.
Game 7, Jackson was 0 for 3 with a walk and a strikeout
    Game 8, 1 for 3 with a double, 2 walks, and 2 strikeouts.
Game 9- 2 for 3 with 2 singles, 2 walks, and NO strikeouts
Game 10- 2 for 4 with a SOLO HOME RUN, RBI single, and a walk, and NO strikeouts- The HR was his First since before his call-up April 10th, so a month since his last homer
The last few games have been a little bit slower though when it comes to the hits:
Game 11- 0 for 2 with 3 WALKS and NO strikeouts
    Game 12- 1 for 5 with a single, 1 walk, and 2 strikeouts
    Game 13- 1 for 4 with a single
    Game 14- 1 for 5 with a single, and 2 strikeouts
So again, overall 13 for 53 which is good for a .245 batting average. Still a small sample size, but we aren’t really seeing Jackson come out and dominate since his demotion back to AAA.
Taking a look at his strikeout numbers, which has been something I’ve kept an eye on with how often he was going down on strikes in the majors; his 13 strikeouts since his demotion equate to a 24% strikeout rate. While this IS a nice improvement on the 53% figure he had in the major leagues, that number is still a little elevated for me. If he can get that down under 20%, thats more where we want to see it.
Now, are all of these stats gonna get Jackson Holliday back in the big leagues anytime soon? Probably not. I feel that he’s gonna need to put up some better stats consistently over the course of the coming weeks to get the promotion. Theres certainly been flashes of promise, like in his 3 for 6 game, and in his 4 walk game where he showed the ability to lay off some close pitches, and in his 10th game back with that home run. If he can get the consistency going,it’ll just be a matter of time before the games top prospect is back in the major leagues.
& As I’ve mentioned before, the thing about it is while Jackson gets back into his groove, the Orioles continue to win at the major league level, really eliminating the need to try and rush Jackson back up. That’s why I feel that this will be a little more of an extended stay down in AAA. The Orioles REALLY want to get Holliday consistent, everyday at bats, and re-assess in a few weeks. I wouldn’t be surprised if its another couple months before we see Jackson Holliday in the big leagues again. And personally, I feel that thats the best thing for his career right now. He needs to take the pressure off of himself, get back to the basics, and the success will come. As I like to say, It’s not a matter of IF we will see Jackson Holliday back in the big leagues, just when.
I’ll be keeping you guys updated with how Jackson Holliday is performing in the minors in the weeks ahead. Spin Dr's will spin. Thats what they do. He wasn't ready and still isnt. Id leave him there until spring training. I thought he chased too much and too much hype. Pressure. All the media said he was mature because he was in clubhouses growing up. What has that got to do with anything. Apparently nothing

I’d say there’s the correct amount of hype. Dude is still a child. He can’t control that he’s young. He has a lot more experience against the best of the best than everyone else his age. He should be light years ahead of them in the following seasons. Time will tell.

Too much hype. He's young so he may pull out of it and I'm sure have a career but not like all of that hype was trying to sell. I see him as a utility player. But what do I know :-)
