    Hey plant fam! I left our a very important detail in this video about growing these in clay pots. ... don't do it unless they are glazed/sealed pots. Ok that's all, keep on growin!

      Definitely an important tip people should know.....its almost impossible to keep those wet or watered enough!! That also goes for anything else in the ginger family I've found out over the years......well made it through the 2 day freeze unscathed thanks to my heated greenhouse and a huge thanks to my live oaks which act like huge heat holding umbrellas.....the low temps dropped to 28-29 degrees two days in a row with highs in the low 40s.....my 15 year old angels trumpet, giant pentas and jasmines were not covered due to the wind but my trees kept them from freezing to the ground....they have no cold damage what so ever....the wind on the other hand knocked 10 tons of tillandsia out of the trees that I've gotta rake up and toss in the compost pile.....before the storm I also managed to get a double row of garden peas....3 rows of scallions.....5 rows of carrots and 5 rows of radishes ....and for decoration, wind protection and awesome fragrance I planted 5 kinds of sweet peas....4 different varieties of the tall growing types and a bedding type that stays under 2 foot tall.....ofcourse I had to put a tall fence around it because after tilling up the soil the cats had a huge gleam in their eyes thinkin I just made them the biggest cat box they ever seen lmao.... However I also gotta keep all my bird feeders full and as far away from the veggie patch as possible to keep them from eating all the hundreds of seeds I just got planted.....my biggest problem by far is leaf cutter ants....the Bain of my existence....lol...because they can and do strip every single leaf off of ANYTHING!! overnight...they ain't picky about what plant types either.....i have a 15' tall and about 8' wide oleander....the individual flowers are 3in wide... double bright pink with white stripes that look like roses...and is very VERY fragrant....well it was in full bloom and spectacular....i went to bed one night a few weeks ago...and the very next day I went outside and found that EVERY single leaf and flower was gone.... they've killed lots of of my hibiscus... Elephant ears....gardenias....pentas...jasmines.... and so called assorted indestructible plants... and they are very hard to kill or repel thus aggravating the f...k out of me LOL

      Kindly help me pls. my stromanthe is losing its pink underside - what may be the cause? how can I stop it? I live in Dubai so it's very humid here going up to 80. I was thinking maybe the high moisture level in our studio is the reason for this? Need desperately your advice. Thank you.

    💌 The leaves are so pretty, there is something about a green plant that has pink on its leaves. Nice tip on what kind of pot to use. 😊 I remember when I first started houseplants I thought the type of pot was just for decoration so I hardly ever used clay pots. You live and learn.

    Hi Jeff! WOW, your Triostar's are beautiful! This video was very helpful because I've always wanted one, but was afraid to try it. With all of your tips, I might be successful, unless it's just one of those plants that don't like me or the environment in the house. LOL! Guess I'll just have to try one and see. My sister bought one a couple of years ago and it's been doing really good. I don't know how she takes care of it, but I think she just treats it like her other houseplants. I love the humidifier in your videos. It's so relaxing to watch. Thank you so much for sharing!

    Every time I see your fog covered pond, I wish you had brought the fish in, so I'd know if the ultrasonic fog makers are safe for me to add to my pond in the spring. I would think they were, at least as long as the fish can't actually touch it, since I've seen fountain setups with them, but only set up as displays without fish.

    • @TropicalPlantParty
      @TropicalPlantParty  Před 3 lety +1

      I wouldn't put one in with fish, not unless a professional told me it's ok and had done a lot of my own research about the specific one I had. The metal could be a bad one for them, and I feel like poopy water would wear the discs out, but idk for sure. Also I wouldn't do it in my set up bc I don't want to inhale vaporized fish poop, seems unhealthy 🤣😂

    • @TropicalPlantParty
      @TropicalPlantParty  Před 3 lety

      Normally I would say yes. Most plants growing aquaponically or hydroponically need the water around 77°F. These have been fine in my water here which ranges from 65 to 75°F depending on the time of year. You will get more growth out of them with warmer water though.

    Hi! This was so helpful. I’ve had a Trio star for years now and I don’t know how I haven’t killed it as it’s only been in the last year that I have educated myself well on plants!
    I have a question, I recently reported mine in a soil with good compost and what I think is good moisture retention. Having said that, I live in a very very dry climate and do my best with my humidifier but I’m wondering if it’s possible to grow these babies in a large vase of water, providing I change the water every week and give it liquid fertilizer from time to time.
    I’m also nervous to mess with the root system again as I just re-potted 2 months ago.
    THANKS!

    When do yo repot your washingtonia? because you know a lot about repotting.

    • @TropicalPlantParty
      @TropicalPlantParty  Před 3 lety +1

      Depends on the size/age. Generally I'll repot them whenever i notice that im having to water more often and the roots have filled the pots entirely. When they are more mature, say over 2 or 3ft tall, ill let them stay pot bound longer. When I've grown Washingtonian I typically upgraded their pot size almost every year, which is more frequent than most palms need, but they grow a lot faster than most other palms.
