- One of the anonymous accusers in R. Kelly's criminal case is speaking out publicly for the first time. Lanita Carter, the woman identified in the indictment as "L.C.", was 24 years old at the time of the alleged sexual assault in 2003. 100% believe her. I feel her pain watching her speak. To people criticizing her for taking a settlement: What was she going to do? She went to the police and they did nothing. When there was no justice, that seemed like her second best option. She needed to pay for therapy for PTSD and trauma, and with that kind of trauma people often can't go back to work as normal. It obviously haunts her to this day. The second settlement stopped him from making money off of raping her by performing the song and publishing it on other albums! Good for her for stopping him from literally making money from rape.
She wanted justice FIRST then took the money when justice didn't happen and she didn't believe it could happen. Totally understandable. Now, she thinks justice might be possible so she is sharing the truth, and is relieved to do so. What she wanted first and foremost was justice.

That just means she was able to sue and receive more money as she did. However, from personal experience; if she is found to be in breach of contract, she can be ordered to pay all that money back. Most law suits that mediate without going to court/trial would rather settle while each party agrees to never speak of the situation personally nor publicly. Furthermore, I believe our society has afforded "Groupies" the opportunity to WILLINGLY pursue a celebrity and cry "wolf" for monetary gain.
