    In this episode, we cut out all of the windows and doors in the center section of our off grid shipping container home. We also installed the fascia, flashed the windows, and installed the zip tape.

    These episodes just keep getting better and better. I always look forward to a new episode and once I see you guys have posted a new one I get all excited! It's my dream too, to build a tiny house or shipping container home so it's awesome getting to live vicariously through you two while learning tips along the way. And the farm animals and doggo are a bonus of entertainment. Seriously you two are more entertaining than alot of what's offered on regular television.
    Keep up the amazing work and I so look forward to the next episode when you guys install the roof. Everything is coming along so nice!

    I would have installed the roof deck before flashing windows and seam taping the siding. Keeping water out is #1. I’m not sure of your location but adding those pitched roofs over the containers is a good idea but if you get snow I would keep the pitch at least 18 inches from the bottom of your windows. Just thinking out loud. Quality Construction Guys, doing a Great Job‼️👍👍 Vinny 🇺🇸

    You all are doing a great job at building that and I am glad to see you are using shipping containers. I have a suggestion for you all that you may not have though of and that is you all should consider anchoring your house to the ground. You could use an anchor system that you would on a mobile home. If a strong wind storm was to hit this place is could do a lot of damage to it just as wind can roll over mobile homes if they are not anchored down.

    If you plan on painting it really consider Rhino liner. Or truck bed liner. It’s durable as hell.
    Although creating a space of an inch or so between the siding of some sort and the container walls is an easy way to increase the R value up to 10. That adds a little extra insulation to the interior R value.
    Example wood or composite siding boards for aesthetics.
    That narrow pocket of shadow is a simple extra thing for interior comfort.

    Another enjoyable video and more great progress! That always keep the motivation high, and Spencer "flashing" the windows was pretty priceless! I'm curious about something, especially after adding the "Zip Tape." I completely understand the desire to keep the elements out so I'm wondering what you're going to do to let the house do to breathe. I think both are important and I'm sure that you allowed for it so I'm looking to see how you balanced both.

    • @dannywilsher4165
      @dannywilsher4165 Před 6 lety +1

      Dave, letting a house breath is old technology. If you get it water tight, it doesn't need to breath. The breathing in old houses was to allow the walls and roof to dry out after a rain because they hadn't figured out how to keep all the water out. If there is humidity involved in the roof, then a circulation would be necessary to keep that dry. This is what a drug dealer told me one time.... JK!!!!

    Your small slope roof to cover the container roof will create a moisture trap. You can solve this by putting in a vent away from your windows on that end but near the top of the slope. You would need one for each end and two for the long sides.
