I don’t think Chloe Grace Moretz knows what abuse is because Carrie’s mom is 100% abusive whether she “loves” her daughter or not.
Agreed!!
To be fair, she was really young at the time. Most kids & teens during that time (myself included) were unfamiliar with the many forms of abuse. We all knew of the physical stuff but emotional and mental abuse were fairly new concepts at the time unless you signed up for some sort of rarely offered psychology class.
Personally I think 15 is way to young to play this role, because the character is way too mentally complex. besides isn’t she meant to be 17/18 anyway
i mean chloe was 15 so she was young and probably wasn't overly familiar with the concept of emotional abuse.
Yeah, this is another reason why Hollywood generally casts older actors to play teens. Aside from being able to work longer hours, adults actually understand these concepts. An adult would understand how to play a teen with an abusive parent who doesn't realize she's being abused. 99% of teenagers simply don't understand that kind of nuance.

I honestly didn’t understand why Carrie was bulled to begin with. She was just a shy bookworm-
I think in the movie it was explained as her and her mom being religious fanatics thinking everyone’s going to hell but them. When Carrie first got to school she probably said a lot of crazy stuff before she learned not to talk to anyone.
Unfortunately that's reason enough every shy bookworm I knew was bullied at some point
because kids will bully other kids for close to no reason
Thats because back when you dont wanna fight or is weary of your surroundings, as a bookworm or otherwise, that makes you an easy target for bullies
I know from experience when I was a bullied kid
@@InitialPC There's always a reason, most of it is to simply get a reaction, nothing more to it than that
I don’t know why but I absolutely love how Sue is portrayed in this adaptation. Like we actually see her transition from typical mean girl to wanting to feeling bad for Carrie (we see her backing away from her friends, she tries to help when Ms. Dejardin enters) instead of just having Sue suddenly feel bad in the next scene we see her after “plug it up.”

I always thought it was ridiculous that a group of teenage girls would bully a peer for getting her period. Seriously... it's like laughing at someone for eating or going to the bathroom....
Keep in mind, it’s not just a peer. It’s Carrie. She’s already a frequent target of bullying from the other girls and her over the top reaction to getting her period for the first time would spur it on even more. Sure it’s still not all that realistic but it is somewhat of an explanation
Kids made fun of people and bullied them if they (a male) used a stall at school because they were "pooping".....people have nothing better to do than be hateful for the bare minimum
Honestly, I think it's not all that unrealistic. When girls my age were just starting to get periods there were tons of rumours and gossip about who people thought had gotten their periods, and my teachers wound up having to shut it down because girls were putting together a list of 'suspects' based on who went to the bathroom and when. Kids can get pretty fucked up.
@@pixiestxNyomouf The girls did it too. Sure was fun going to class soaked in water because the kids around you have nothing better to do than be assholes
Pretty sure the bullying was more coming from the fact she didn't know what was going on and panicked.
Most non religious girls have a pretty good idea about what a period is by their age.
I think what I love about the 2013 remake is that Carrie is actively going after all of her bullies during the prom scene, 2002 Carrie kinda just stood there and watched the disaster happen, 2013 Carrie actually felt like there was a revenge being exacted and that people were paying for all that they had done to her
2002’s Carrie was having a trauma induced seizure during the event because if she was completely out of it during the incident it makes her seem more sympathetic to the audience (something they would’ve wanted since they were planning to make a TV series out of it)
I don't think it was revenge since she killed her teacher. It was 100% out of her control so id say its not revenge, but blanking out due to what happened. I mean she started to see things that were not there as well. TuT

Honestly, I want to see a Carrie movie that depicts the entirety of the climax of the book. Cause in the movies I’ve seen (1976 and 2013. Didn’t know there was a 2002 one), she just wrecks the high school and her house. In the book, she causes so much destruction and mayhem that the town becomes economically crippled.
Edit: just watched the Kill Count for the 2002 one. Apparently they did do that but the effects left a lot to be desired.
The 2002 version is better than this one. Angela Bettis is better as Carrie and they do follow the book more closely.
This version is really just a pale shadow of the DePalma version.
I've really enjoyed watching Judy Greer's slow climb to a leading actress. After being stuck playing the sidekick/best friend character for years because she wasn't pretty enough for Hollywood, she got more and more roles showcasing what an acting powerhouse she is. She's hilarious and talented and I love her.
If I remember she was Marcie Fox in Jawbreaker right? Or was that somebody else?

Let's be real, no female in the right mind is gonna waste all those pads and tampons
Fr
$8-$9 worth of pads/tampons, oh heck no
RIGHT!! And ALSO, let’s be real, you’re not going to find THAT many girls having THAT many tampons ON them at ONCE, and then factor in that ALL of those girls will ALL be douchy C-Bags and THROW them at a girl for having her period, something ALL of them have had or WILL have in their future. That scene has NEEEEVVER made ANY sense in this Stephen King story smdh. He must have thought that ALL girls are RANDOMLY bitches for no reason at all back when he wrote this story lol smdh.
CeeWorld Actually, in the novel and movies, the girls take them from the pad and tampon dispenser in the gym locker room. It was broken (the coin part) and (maybe with one girl starting by tossing her one in a half-assed way to tell her to stop overreacting) then they all grabbed them freely to throw until it was empty. Have you seen them? They aren’t as popular nowadays and you may not have noticed them because girls are always strictly taught with the lesson of a period to carry their own supplies and not forget them. To not be trapped somewhere that might not have a dispenser.
CeeWorld Also, never underestimate how mean humans can be to each other. You’ll get hurt bad.
“Who has a glass water tank?” Someone that doesn’t have to lift it themselves that’s who
Well someone still have to lift it up
Maybe they can refill it without lifting it

I so want a version of Carrie that follows the book properly. Carrie leaves the prom before consciously deciding to go back in and get even with everyone, and it rapidly escalates into a full-blown slaughter. She starts off wanting to just turn the sprinklers on them but that doesn't make them cry, so she wants more. She sees one boy getting electrocuted and it makes her laugh because he's dancing, so she pulls out all the power cables and electrocutes more of them, a fire also starts. She's laughing hysterically but keeps them trapped inside with the fire before leaving, then as she's walking through town she breaks all the fire hydrants so they can't put out her fire. I want manic Carrie scrubbing blood off her hands while being taken over by the first time she's ever felt powerful in her life.
The end scene where the psychically links with Sue and Sue experiences Carrie's death as if its her own would also be awesome on screen as well. It could all be so good, they just need to give us a Carrie who's unlikeable!
The thing that’s always stuck with me from the book version is that because she’s telepathic to some extent as well, everyone who gets in range instantly knows what’s happening is down to Carrie White (even if they’ve never even heard her name before).
And then the thing where whoever gets close enough to her can just hear “carriecarriecarriecarriecarrie” constantly in their head, something about that is so unsettling to me.
Though yes, Sue feeling what it’s like to die and Carrie releasing her at the very last second is also a banger of a moment, it’s such a great book

Tommy's death has always been heartbreaking to me because he was genuinely a good guy who wanted to do something nice for Carrie, even if it took some prompting. I just felt like he did more than just the bare minimum of taking Carrie to the dance and maybe dancing with her. If I have to give one prop to this movie it is that Ansel Elgort's Tommy death actually conveyed this feeling the best out of the adaptations by having that moment of recognition that oh shit, he's dead, something falling from a certain height with enough force can actually kill you.
I didn't feel anything when he died
Colin Lucas no one asked, if you we’re able to read properly it clearly saying in there first line “to *me* “
Pretty sure that what stephan king wanted everybody to feel
I always thought of how much it would hurt Carrie when she found out that Tommy doesn’t actually like her. I would be scared yo find out.
Agreed, Carrie’s rampage is better because Tommy is a good dude. She’s not just getting revenge for what’s been done to her, she’s getting revenge on a world where literally anything good dies. I think if Tommy was just some generic prick in on the prank, Carrie’s breakdown would have been a lot less tragic and more of a revenge porn event.
Totally agree that Chloe was wrongly casted as Carrie, however she's an amazing actress
That's true too haha
Kind of like Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker. He does act or look like the nerd Peter Parker is suppose to be
She is literally one of the last actresses I would have anticipated ever being in this role
Michael Jackson but that Peter Parker wasn’t supposed to be a nerd stereotype
Yeah but Peter Parker is suppose to be weak,( before he was bitten) nerdy, small and unpopular. Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker doesn’t have that vibe
I think Jackie's death was my favorite. The bleacher crush was very creative.
I love this version's Chris, aside from how over the top evil she can be, it really captures the look and behavior of a lot popular mean girls I knew growing up.
A perfect match for Buddy the bully in "Christine."

I love that Carrie saves Miss. Dejsarden in this version, it adds something to her character; she KNEW that this teacher was on her side, unlike the other two versions where she couldn’t distinguish friend from foe
@Sharon Jensen Same! Too bad they couldn't add that scene in the 2013 version, happened in the 1976 one and it is one of THE BEST scenes!
I mean, it makes her less more relatable, That SHE CAN distinguish pepole
Its sad in the 70's and 2000's version when she kills the few pepole that where good to her; without being able to distinguish them from the pepole that where mean
It makes some sense, but in the 19976 version where she gets killed, it makes the whole situation more tragic. It shows that Carrie, in that moment, well and truly snapped, to the point where even Desjardin wasn't safe from her rampage despite being someone who was nice to her and supported her. Her saving her is nice but at the same time I feel it shows that she is still in control of herself, which kind of goes against the scene imo.
I actually dislike this addition. It makes Carrie's intentions way more sinister, like she was purposefully killing those she disliked and picking and choosing to save those who she did like. I like it in the other films because it feels like she's in a blinded rage and really can't distinguish her victims, she is just finally releasing her aggressions that she's kept pent up for all those years of being abused. It makes a lot more sense in my eyes, especially since it adds a few shades to the character when she feels regretful after the fact. This Carrie really doesn't feel like she regrets killing anyone, and she almost seems psychopathic when she threatens to kill Sue.
Yeah always made me sad that she died cause she was trying to be her friend but I get that she wasn't in a good mind state from all the bullying .. still liked that she didn't die here
Given that there's also a musical version of Carrie back in 1988, there has been a sequel/remake of Carrie in every decade since the novel came out.
I will not be surprised if we have something in the 2020s.
you're a prophet I guess
quite honestly, i'm happy with this remake only for the fact that it allowed me to know the story of Carrie White. I always loved old movies and horror classics, however Carrie was never a movie really popular in Brazil. When I watched the movie, I was happy I could get to know the story, and it didn't take me even a week to get to read the Novel and watch the 1976 adaptation.
There is a deleted scene where sue had a dream of giving birth and you could see a bloody Carrie holding her baby and it’s horrifying imo

Sue Snell's pregnancy is actually in the book. Part of the reason she wanted to distance herself from Tommy was the pregnancy and that she didn't know what she wanted to do about it. During her rampage through town, Sue miscarries, which apparently wikipedia interpreted as a trauma response, but I always thought it was a final act of kindness from Carrie.
How is miscarrying a act of kindness? That doesn’t make much sense to me

🚿It definitely makes Carrie more human that she allowed so many people to live.🔥
It always bugged me how Carrie flayed her arms around and seemed in control during the prom scene. In the 76 and 02 versions, having her be in a trance like state maintains her innocence and makes it more tragic when she goes home and realizes what she’s done
Half Blood Scum yeah I agree, didn’t even think about that at first. The fact that her emotions are so overwhelming that she can’t control them and ends up killing everyone is definitely a good plot line.
i mean i'm not angry with the idea of her being cruel, as she had moments of cruelty in the book, but the way it was handled in this movie didn't work for me
"flayed" lmao
I prefer this one because while she is aware, she only kills those that bullied her instead everyone there at the prom. In the other ones, she kills everyone there and kills a bunch of innocent people through the town.
What makes you think she was in a trance?
Worst thing about this remake...they didn't give a body count in the news to make it easier for James 🤷♂️

The sue being pregnant IS a book accurate change, but its so minor in both that it would have to rely on people having read the book to understand it, which I sincerely doubt many fans of this film did
Apparently the first version of the movie was going to be much different and unique compared to the final version, but they had it rewritten and cut to make it similar to the original.
Some changes:
• The entire film would use a commission after the main events of the film as a framing device, so throughout the film survivors and experts would commentate on the events (sort of like a mockumentary)
• More cyberbullying
• A video diary recorded by Sue
• An extended prom scene
• Video footage from Freddy Holt’s camera
• The town being destroyed
• Numerous different endings
The original script was written purely by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, while the screenwriter from the original was brought on later, presumably because the studio figured that a straightforward remake would be a better direction.
Dunno about the mockumentary but totally in board with the town being destroyed and video footage from Freddy.
Well, considering the book itself is interspersed with clips from local newspapers, books, and government commission interrogations, the mockumentary style would actually make a bit of sense.
@@stop6779 I prefer the graphic deaths of both Billy and Chris in this version due to just how much more evil both of them are here then they were in the previous versions. It's especially satisfying to see Chris's face go through the windshield like she did because of how much of an evil bitch she is.
So like the TV movie
wadafefe Yeah, they took a bit more from the TV movie originally, but it was at least more unique than the final version which is basically the original.

Being a huge Buffy fan, Sarah Michelle Gellar is my fav part of that movie. That being said, it is an awful movie.
I actually decided to rewatch the series this week to be prepared for the count.Along with it I also rewatched Urban Legend trilogy to see which is better. I know ... last summer did not age well with me. Honestly, it's pretty bad.
I kinda hope we get another Carrie adaptation that's good overall. Like, mix some of the best qualities from past iterations and improve on things.
If Halloween can get a kickass addition via the 2018 movie, I'd say it's possible for a successful modern take on the story.
It's slated to get a limited series adaptation from FX, maybe that'll be the one.
Watch I'm not okay with this, it's literally a Carrie tv series but with a more unique plot
There's this new show on netflix that is like it

If I remember correctly, when this movie was announced the original intention was to film it in a similar way to the book; like a found footage story. Only, instead of interviews, diary entries, and newspaper clippings like in the book, the movie was going to be told through vlogs, video diaries, newcastings, etc. The only reason they decided against it was because there was a school shooting near the filming location and they didn't want to come across as disrespectful. I think they should have just gone for it because not only would that make for an awesome movie/web series, but it would only make Carrie's message stronger. Sure, we might not get Carrie's perspective as much, but I think that would have just made her a more ominous and creepy figure in the story.
That's just my two cents on this movie, anyway.
That wouldve been a very interesting way to tell the movie's story. I remember that they wanted to take advantage of the modern setting of the remake and while that would have been a different way to do a remake of a classic horror movie, but its an idea I can get behind
I like this idea. I've never seen this 'Carrie' movie before, but after watching it via Kill Count, it just felt really weird to watch. Like a really strange echo of the original.
It could potentially make Carrie more of a villain, which would be really interesting to see.
I definitely have to disagree there, but that's more due to my own tastes of just really disliking the whole "found footage" type of movie. It might work in a book, I haven't read Carrie, but quite enjoyed Bram Stoker's Dracula for instance,, but I have yet to see a movie in that style that was in any way appealing.
That was a lot of words.
My Ranking for all carrie movies:
1. Carrie ( 1976 ) 😍
2. Carrie ( 2013 ) 😆 ( pls don't get mad at me )
3. Carrie ( 2002 ) 🙃
4. The Rage: Carrie 2 ( 1999 ) 😑
I love how the sprinklers go off UNTIL the fire starts
I see it like James. Chloe Grace Moretz is an amazing actress, but I don't see Carrie in her.
She's waaaay to beautiful, doesn't have any weirdness about her and it just doesn't feel like the innocent, naive Carrie who's bullied because of her appearance and weird behavior. The way she controls her telekinesis in the prom-scene makes her a murderer, because she really has control over her power. In the other Carrie movies it feels more like Carrie is in a trance like state and doesn't really know what she's doing.
I just don't feel Moretz' Carrie
She worked so much better as a casting in Let Me In as the object of a young boy's desire. Carrie is supposed to be the opposite of what a horny teenage boy would be into.
She was actually sexualised during the production of carrie
Exactly, she feels a lot more evil and less mentally deranged.
I preferred her more in kick ass films myself as her acting and character in those films was amazing, but yeah she has more cool persona about her which makes her odd choice to be carrie, though wish they made her live this time and say move towns as they could got away with sequel that way!
I agree, the other two had no control and had that psychic freak out, also they seemed more like outcasted religious girls rather than a nerdy girl in romcoms
The film was actually _intended_ to be more faithful to the book, hence the director's claims and the leaked screenplay shows it. It just so happened that the studio, like most of times, meddled in, and forced to make reshoots to make it more in line with the De Palma version.
So the studio wanted the film to be one big nostalgia-fest to try and get people in theaters? Yeah, I believe that.
