      Guys, what the best OS and setting to change my desktop PC into NAS multimedia server?
      So, my plan is using :
      - Motherboard : Asus ROG Strix B560
      - Processor : AMD Ryzen 5600G
      - Memory : 2 x 8 GB DDR4 RAM 3200 mhz
      - SSD for booting OS (Freenas or?) : 512 GB SSD 2.5 inch
      - Eksternal HDD bay : Yottamaster PS500RC3
      - HDD 3.5 inch : WD Red @ 8 TB x 5
      - Power Supply : 450 watt 80 plus bronze
      Question :
      1. Can OS FreeNAS/TrueNAS detect Yottamaster HDD bay as partition hard disk on my Desktop PC ? (i will use usb 3.0 port from motherboard to connect to Yottamaster HDD bay)
      2. Can i use my Nvidia Shield TV pro 2019 to play all movies from Yottamaster HDD bay i connected to motherboard on my desktop PC ?
      3. Please give me best setting or tutorial to build this desktop PC as NAS Server ^^

    I have a weird problem.
    I installed TrueNAS Core to my i3-3217u laptop with 8GB ram and i7-4790k desktop with 16GB ram.
    After installation(4:43), rebooted. But both computers cannot find the installed SSD; the error message says missing booting hardware or files.
    In BIOS, I cannot find the SSD that I installed TrueNAS.
    I installed "Boot via UEFI". Doesn't work. So installed "Boot via BIOS" again. Still doesn't boot; booting HDD cannot be detected.
    However (1), TrueNAS "SCALE" and OMV were installed and booting without any problem. (But I want TrueNAS CORE.)
    However (2), I installed TrueNAS CORE on another 16GB USB flash memory stick(SanDisk) instead of the Samsung SSD 840 Evo. My system detects the USB memory, and TrueNAS CORE boots OK. I don't know why my computer detects a USB flash memory that TrueNAS Core installed, but not SSD that TrueNAS Core installed.

    When trying to install from USB, I keep getting "Secure boot invalid signature detected. check secure boot policy in setup". I have not had this problem with other OS installs. I found a suggestion in the forum to disable secure boot, but that does not sound good. If my hardware is not compatible, than it would be better to get a message indicating that instead of my BIOS screaming that something is fishy, especially when these days everyone is telling you to be very serious about security...

    • @NAN5380
      @NAN5380 Před 8 měsíci

      It’s because you have existing keys from an old OS install. You should only have to delete the existing ones / reset secure boot in BIOS. If that’s not an option, disable it during install and re-enable after install. It’s not an issue with TrueNAS or anything they need to change lol

    • @TrueNAS
      @TrueNAS  Před 2 lety +1

      While we cannot recommend it, we have had users run TrueNAS on 4GB systems before.
      Although, because 4GB of RAM is below the recommended specifications to run TrueNAS we cannot guarantee stability. If you decide to proceed, proceed with caution and backup frequently.
      As always, please follow the 3-2-1 backup rule when storing any data!

    Is there a way to install it onto a partition of a disk without erasing the entire disk?

      Hello Dakota!
      This is not currently possible with the latest version of TrueNAS CORE. TrueNAS runs as an appliance and expects to run on its own device.

      @@TrueNAS Thanks for the reply! I guess I’ll be looking into buying or salvaging a smaller drive then.

      @@mcculloughdakota Apparently there are ways to do, but it's not so easy. Try googling "truenas install on partition"

      Hello!
      Accessing your data over the internet is possible with Plugins like NextCloud. Please be aware that exposing your NAS can be dangerous and to take all neccesary precautions.

    Complete joke software. After installing successfully on a 120GB SSD my password was rejected when I accessed via web browser using the ip given. Using option 7 to reset the password on the server I couldn't type anything at all. Re-installed it again, got the same results. Waste of time.

      @@TrueNAS Sorry for not replying earlier. Been busy with printshop. I tried several times and shared on the forum but couldn't get it resolved. Tried openmediavault on the same system and got my NAS up and running in minutes...

      @@TrueNAS Thanks I did that but the issue was bizarre, involving perhaps changing the keyboard..
      Anyhow, I tried out openmediavault and that installed in a breeze. I take my hat off to the Linux developers who make Microsoft look like a wooden wheel in a F1 grand prix.
