He'll probably make him a Chad while making swipes at Christianity nonetheless
@Derren Aalis Christianity wasnt politically advantageous at the time though. It was growing rapidly (especially in the eastern half of the Empire where it was close to 40%--though Constantine only controlled the still very pagan west for most of his reign), but still definitely a minority. A lot of people point to the fact he was baptized on his deathbed as proof he was just using the religion politically, but that was actually common practice for converts at the time (confession hadnt taken its later form yet, so baptism was believed to be the only chance most got to have sins forgiven)
He did a lot to politically integrate Christianity, but Christianity wasnt yet at the point where it *was* politically useful--especially not in the west. If there werent some element of true belief, it probably would have been the more politically advantageous to stick with Sol Invictus and just make the henotheistic element more emphasized

I feel like caracella is at fault for the fall of rome in a big way tbh.
He shat on a permanent merger of the armenians and Rome, he made all plebs civilians so there was no incentive for plebian families to join the military, lowering enlistment in the long term for economic gains, and massacred roman civilians for little to no reason.
No the fall of Rome was caused by the split of eastern and western Rome not to mention the Roman army wasnt having a volunteer problem it actually increased as time went on it was at its largest during the 2nd century after Caracalla's reign.
@@getass3290 Oh yea Diocletian also caused permanent problems for the empire. His reforms directly led to an empire divided
@@Keijikrall yes so did Augustus it was him who created the praetorian gaurd Constantines rome resulted in the split between East and west basically all of the empires greatest emporers contributed to the fall of rome is some way does that make them a bad emporer, no it doesn't fact is if any of the people I just mentioned lived forever the problems their policies lead to wouldn't look so empire ending if any of them lived forever the empire would have never fell blaming Constantine for what Honorius did and blaming Marcus Aurelius for what Commodus did is absolutely idiotic
History Major here... If that even means something.
Caracalla's granting of citizenship to everyone didn't fuck shit up in giving the Plebs "lack of incentive to join the military" (Plebeians were already Roman citizens anyway, and they would still have plenty of potential for social mobility and material gains by joining the army) as it was a solution for the lack of money in the Imperial coffers ; now everyone will get to pay taxes! It also emboldened this sense of Belonging in the entire Empire as a whole, as now everyone was equal(ly oppressed, fuck the Dominate) under Roman law, except the slaves of course.
It still fucked shit up because the tax burdens ultimately fell upon the lower classes, the upper class just not giving a fuck about paying their fair share or even standard evergetism/philanthropy anymore as they were starting to take everything for granted. This led to further gaps between the lower and higher financial classes, and within the Cities themselves the housing blocks and neighbourhoods started being gentrified. More and more, city administrations were rigidified as they were losing their autonomy, more and more relying on the Roman Bureaucracy for their aedilitary constructions (Theatres, baths and the like) because of their populations' impoverishment.
Meanwhile, despite the introduction of the Antoninus coin, silver and copper inflation was rising since Nerva's reign as the Emperors kept needing to debase the coins in order to pay an ever-hungrier military, direct "Client" to the Patron that is the Emperor.
The Roman Empire was already bound to fall to these vices as Augustus claimed the Corona Civica and failed to meet the demands of the lower classes, instead reviving a Nationalism and the Mos Maiorum, ideologies and realities completely alien to the landless Proletariat's (in both the modern-day and ancient sense of the term) demands... Outside of the social mobility that the military provided, of course. It's a testament to their character that the Empire stood another 1500 years (at least for the Eastern side; the West fell to the barbarians and unsurprisingly everyone was happy *after the fact*) after the original issues were still left unanswered.
@@getass3290 Yea but that's because the second and third order affects weren't felt until down the line. OP makes a valid point. DE incentivizing Military Service amongst the pleb citizenry opened the gateway to over reliance on mercenaries and foreign troops like the Gothic Foderati.
I love how edgy Severus was portrayed. Also, I found the recap of Commodus to be funny, despite the fact that it is the polar opposite of how he was shown in the previous episode. Yes, I get that that was the joke.
Not gonna lie, when Ardashir was introduced to the story, he really did seemed like a dark lord hell bent on destroying all life. Makes the G*rms weak and pathetic comparison. That monster was epic.
Tbh the germans are masters of war.
Just wait until Attila arrives.
You thought the Germans were boss well I got something to tell ya.

Well anime is the superior form of entertainment anyway, so only praises from me. Don't forget Julian the Apostate
@@aegonii8471 The crisis is comedy gold. I love it!
@@americancaesar1830 Constantine was never given as a key reason in the fall of Rome, perhaps finishing the decline from Principate to Dominate and in that sense betraying the real glory of Rome, but that's definitely not the same. Julian the Apostate is the most chad because he could do it all, he was a consummate soldier and general, he was a great philosopher with a decent chunk of writings, one quite humorous and enlightening where he has most of the emperors of note brought before the gods and judged on their successes and failures; he recognized the value of Roman traditions in maintaining the empire and resisted Christian influence which was draining funds away from the borders and legions and towards churches who would give it to the most unproductive of the empire. I could write on and on, but he was the guy, and the way he died was tragic and truly inspiring, the column he was leading was attacked while withdrawing, instead of leaving his soldiers to die he hurried to the site of action, leaving his mail behind and suffering a mortal wound as a result. Instead of pleading and crying he spent his last day or two discussing philosophy with his friends and making plans as best he could for the future of the empire. Alas history would take a different course, to the detriment of the West at large.

@Joseph Sosa Thank Sol Invictus for Aurelian. Without him, there'd be no city of Orleans, or New Orleans. True fact. It was named after him.
Random fun fact: the Severan dynasty (not counting Septimus Severus, the founder) is biologically descended from the Ptolemaic dynasty, specifically through one of Cleopatra VII's and Mark Antony's descendants.
The two gave birth to 3 children, the notable one here being Cleopatra Selene II/Cleopatra VIII.
She in turn gave birth to Ptolemy of Mauretania, who's descendant was Drusilla of Mauretania the Younger.
Drusilla then gave birth to Gaius Julius Alexion/Alexion II, the father of Julius Bassianus.
Julius Bassianus had two daughters, Julia Domna, who married Septimus Severus and gave birth to Caracalla and Geta (Geta had no offspring but Caracalla had a daughter with an unknown identity, so who knows what happened next on Julia Domna's side of the dynasty), and Julia Maesa, who gave birth to her own two daughters, Julia Avita Mamaea and Julia Soaemias
.
Julia Soaemias was the mother of the Roman Severan emperor Elagabalgus (who was also claimed to be an illegitimate son of Caracalla) but he had no known offsprings before his death.
Elagabalgus was replaced with Severus Alexander, the son of Julia Soamesias' sister, Julia Avita Mamaea. Alexander didn't father any children either, so it ends here.

I think Alexander Severus gets a bad rap in history, he was a young kid put on the throne completely against his will and with no training or experience. There are signs that he could have been a decent if unremarkable emperor, but only if his mother was taken out of the picture. If only Maximinus Thrax had just killed Julia Mamaea, and forced Alexander Severus to make him Co-Augustus, the Crisis of the Third Century may have been averted or at least lessened.

At this point I would've gotten rid of the Praetorian Guards, they're more of a liability at this point than actual guards.

The First Christian Emperor did.
Severus, the man I was named after. The Gods have blessed me.

Me: Ah, I See You're a Man of Culture As Well
Most accurate representation of the Sassanids. On par with 300's fine portrayal of the Persians.
This channel is going to get bleak.
This depiction is highly innacurate and just plain wrong.
Why don't they have goat legs, and tattered wings?
Leonardo Gomez why isn’t Ardashir 7+ foot, semi naked, having a shit ton or piercings

Youd better make Diocletian a boomer wojak. Guy abdicated to tend to his lawn
he abdicated only to avoid impeachment
@@tsonobi Nothing remotely similar to impeachment existed in the Roman Empire, it was somewhere between a monarchy and a military dictatorship. He abdicated to try and start the Tetrarchic succession with a smooth transition. It ended up being a disaster, many wanted him to come back as emperor, and he declined since he enjoyed tending his cabbages too much.
Even in the Republic, nothing like impeachment existed. If it did, Marius and Caesar would have never been problems for the Senate. If one held consulship, proconsulship, or any other position that gave them imperium, they had complete immunity from any sort of trial or prosecution until their term ended
