yeah im probably gonna be uploading video like this for like 2 weeks cuz im on vacation and can't record a full-fledged video, so im doing this little mini-videos for the time being.
before somebody goes out and accuses me of copying other people's content because this channel EGOLEM4476, and various other channels uploads stuff like this, I want to say that I took INSPIRATION from his type of videos, I am not just COPYING them. He doesn't attack you probably because papyrus is a monster soul just like every other monster, so it would be really unfair to kill you over and over because of someone important that is treated same by everyone else. Also he is the judge he is supposed to be fair.

I feel like this would've been a cool little easter egg ,or even something made out of this part specifically where sans would go out of his way to get back at you for killing his brother, like perhaps deliberately sabotaging your fights between other monsters, adding in extra obstacles during monster turns to throw you off guard. Which would leave the player confused until this very part at the end. or...maybe this is how a neutral sans fight would've started, but hey that's already a fangame so..!

I fully believe that there's only a few reasons why Sans doesn't start a battle in this kind of run.
1) He's grieving. It's possible he can't find it in him to put up a genuine fight.
2) He's dead inside. It's canon that he's aware of resets, so it's implied that he feels so extensively depressed and powerless that he doesn't even bother trying - not even for avenging his brother. He knows that, in the end, it's futile, pointless, inevitable. The exception is the genocide route.
3) He doesn't think he can win. The poison effect he has is known as "Karmic Justice" - basically, it's implied that the effect is stronger when the opponent has a greater LOVE. Perhaps he doesn't think he can get away with a victory unless the player has killed enough to be locked into the genocide route.
4) He doesn't think he should or could, because of the other characters. Let's remember that Sans is bound by a lot of promises.
A promise to Toriel, to watch over Frisk.
A "promise" to Papyrus, as the older brother who'll treasure the younger's innocence - and therefore not kill.
A "promise" to Asgore, to uphold his duty as judge and otherwise not interfere - even against personal motivations.
These promises, and perhaps many more, means that Sans might feel bound to only interere if the human is irredeemable - even if, personally, he wants to do more.
One or more of these reasons could contribute as to why he only ever fights in the genocide route. It might even be a little bit of everything.

It has come to my attention that the fan label for Sans's poison effect is Karmic _Retribution,_ not Karmic Justice. This was derived from the official but vague reference to the poison effect, "KR" - and the fanbase has largely interpreted it as "Karmic Retribution." If nothing else, the idea of "karma" makes sense for how the poison works contextually, so an arguement that KR just refers to "KaRma" is understandable too.
I believe I mistook Karmic Retribution as Karmic Justice because of two reasons. One, because I was playing Dark Souls at the time, and there's a spell called "Karmic Justice." Two, because of Sans's interpreted job of being the Judge supports the notion of 'justice.'
On that note, the idea that Sans is recognized as the "Judge" may be supported by a variety of factors, including:
a) the dialogue between Sans and Asgore in old true lab recordings
b) the detail that he puts in the effort to judge you every playthrough (he even gives a relatively official opening and a concrete explanation of "LV/LOVE" and "EXP")
c) the idea that Sans has a poison effect which appears to operate off of the target's sin
d) the logical concept that he is doing threat assessment for Asgore in the Last Corridor. Asgore gets caught off guard on a genocide route because Sans couldn't report and the behavior of Frisk/Chara was too inhumane to be recognised as human.
It is also worth considering that Sans has been often interpreted as a "Royal Judge" figure by the fanbase, whether in videos, fanfiction, and even subtly in the wiki (which explicitly uses the verb "judge" and the noun "judgement" in nearly every reference about Sans and the Last Corridor). That this particular assumption of Sans being an officially (by Asgore) recognised judge has lasted so long (and endured without major widespread backlash from other fans giving different ideas) kinda lends credit to continuing to believe it, until a more convincing notion comes along.
The "karmic justice" thing sounds like fanfiction, he tells you he could've cut you down if he didn't promise Toriel he wouldn't, plus he literally does 1 dmg in genocide lol

It supposedly scales off of the targets LOVE. It's more effective against a LV19 Frisk but less effective against a LV3 Frisk.
Basically, it's faster if his opponent is more powerful/sinful. Probably why it's known as "Karmic Justice," since Sans is a judge who's capacity to enforce a sentence is effected by the karma/guiltiness of the sinner.
Then again, my sources aren't precisely reliable. I'm going off of secondhand and even thirdhand hearsay. Maybe it isn't an official thing, and just an explanation conjured by the Undertale fanbase at one point. Hells if I know.
Personally, until I hear official information to the contrary, the current concept of Karmic Justice is what I'm sticking with for my headcanon. Whether it's originally made by the fandom or not, it makes little difference - after all, in a similar situation, Sans's slippers were only officially pink in merch that released after the fanbase portrayed them like that. In Undertale and Deltarune, they're actually white.

I don't know why you seem to take the concept so harshly. "Karmic Justice" is the current reference for Sans's poison ability. Nothing forbids folks from disagreeing with the concept, but that also doesn't mean you need to take a hard left and essentially claim that answers don't exist.
If that were the case, Dark Souls lore videos wouldn't exist. But they do, and the lore of Dark Souls is a major drawing point for fans.
The same logic applies here with Undertale. "Karmic Justice" is what Sans's poison effect is known by. The idea that it's more powerful with the target's sin is something attributed to it.
Does it mean that it's correct information? That the poison effect is called such and works like that? No, nothing hard confirms this. Is it what the fanbase has concluded so far? Yes. Can it be disputed? Also yes. Is there a different true answer? Maybe. Does it matter if Toby Fox made an official answer to this? No, not unless he releases it.
When did he promise something to Asgore?
Contrary to what seems to the popular interpretation of Sans being intimidating and scary, what I think Sans is expressing is a kind of awe-filled confusion, like he really cant fathom why this happened. How can someone seem to know what the right thing to do is and yet, also kill Papyrus who was not a real threat.
Just imagine the most patient person in world who forgives everyone, even is comfy with criminals and corrupt people, but they just randomly kill your sibling. Wouldnt you also wonder why that happened to you and your family above everyone else?
I feel like you could absolutely gaslight Sans into believing it was necessary.
The fact there's no judgement in this, just genuine confusion and disbelief means he's close. He's trying to process and understand. You could give him a push.
this makes more sense once you realize papyrus speeds up his fight if you're fighting him so that you see his special attack on every fight, so if you're the average person on like your first run, you will probably mess up enough attacks to get to his spare dialogue

If you don't kill enough side monsters( like froggit) but kill all the main characters besides papyrus, and beat Omega flowey, you get an ending where papyrus becomes the new king.
If you kill only Toriel, Papyrus, Undyne, Mettaton and Asgore (and optionally Flowey), you get an ending where The Annoying Dog becomes king, and it's actually so much of an improvement over Asgore's reign that Sans isn't even mad that you killed his brother - or at least if he is he doesn't mention it.

That's brutal. He stops making noise, his eyes stop glowing , and he disappears. That's what I always loved about Sans. He made you feel uneasy, or out of control, like your only option is to reset and never have to face him again.
What's make it more scary is that he has enough reason to end you on the spot, yet he just dissappears.
The damage has already been done, so what can he do? Just accept the fact that he's gone. And yes I'm aware the plyer can reset, but he's not entirely aware of that.

Uhhhh...Assuming that you're talking about how he knows the concept of RESET, then no, he doesn't. Sans doesn't really know that you "RESET"
He knows that you come back in the genocide route by the expression of your face, but he doesn't know why or necessarily HOW you can come back from death.
At least, I think. I'm not really an undertale nerd anymore ever since 2019.

It's because he knows you'll just reset anyway. No one goes through the whole game peacefully and then just randomly kills the least threatening monster in the entire underground. Not unless they know what their doing. He knows you're just experimenting. He'll make you feel a little bit guilty, just for good measure, but he knows you'll just undo everything, and Papyrus will be back next run. It's in Genocide that he starts to worry that there might not _be_ a next run.

My friend and I were in the middle of a genocide run and we didnt have it in us to kill Papyrus.
So we stood outside of Sans’ house and screamed “come out and fight me like a man” and then my game crashed cause we were playing on my 3 year old computer.
I played the game like a regular Rpg on my first run and got the quiet leaderless ending with sans telling me to go to hell.
I don’t know how to express my feelings right now but as soon as the music stopped and he said “then why’d you killed my brother” I have the biggest chills that I ever had

That’s the straight proof that sans doesn’t know about frisk’s power and doesn’t remember resets, he only guesses them
He uses “knowledge” he doesn’t have determination like Frisk or Chara… Undyne does and Undyne can KINDA remember stuff from resets (like Flowey but not much) other characters can only guess or use knowledge which Sans does… Sans is the 4th wall breaker… he almost defeats you with only with Knowledge on a genocide run…. So he almost counters your “determination” with “knowledge”

Out of all the characters, I mostly feel bad for papyrus
You know what's incredible, everything about sans, including his humor is all done to guilt trip you into getting a better ending.
Everything he says or does is to make you dissatisfied with how you have left the world. The two really big moments when he does this is the Judgement hall and the phone call.
He knows that you can reset and manipulates you so cleverly into trying to do better.
This is also why he never actually attacks you until you have killed everyone.
If you fail to do Genocide he won't fight specifically so he can disappoint you, frustrate you and make you give up. And even in the fight he is doing his all to make you give up.
I absolutely commend the patience on this man for being able to do that and keep cool despite everything.
Truly a threat to be reckoned with.

So sans isnt acually fighting against you because you killed his brother hes fighting you because he just tries to stop you from killing everyone in the underground(which in that case you allready did and only one in the next area is just asgore) i feel like everyone knows at this point but in fangames sans(or papyrus if its underswap or anything similar to that there is many undertale rearangement fangames like storyshift storyswap storyspin and much more i cant name because i forgot most of them) just fights you because you killed his brother or even killed his brother enormous amount of time
I don't feel like sans fights you for that reason necessarily, rather he fights you so you can stop resetting the timeline. You see: his ultimate goal is to annoy you as much as possible untill you eventually quit (Hence why he never technically "ends" his turn at the end if the fight.) It just so happens that genocide is the perfect excuse.

How do you kill Papyrus accidentally? He'll ALWAYS spare you before you can kill him, the game is programmed to trigger his final attack once he gets on low HP.

I've never felt so guilty by association. I couldn't bring myself to do a genocide run. In fact, i killed toriel and didn't like how i felt about it, so i loaded back up to do a pacifist run. Flowey remembered. Of all bosses, killing toriel and papyrus would hurt the most.

i remember only killing papyrus back in the day as part of my tests to see all dialogue and the part when the music stops made my heart sink a bit lol and i felt bad too bc i actually like papyrus and hated having to kill him

he attacked in genocide because you killed enough monsters to get your LV to insane levels. he has karmic retribution - the more monsters you kill, the stronger he is. If you kill only one thing, it is physically impossible for him to defeat you. but i assure you that in this scene, if he could've, he would've ripped you in half.

I have been living the last 5 years of my life being apathetic; I know the feeling, emptiness, lack of purpose, being hollow, etc. Never once and I mean NEVER once was I, "you know; if someone killed my brother, I'd be mad but still too apathetic to do anything about it" kind of thing.
Apathy isn't a lost of a soul but a lost of purpose, a lose of self, a lost of care of oneself. NOT THE LOST OF CARE OF THOSE AROUND YOU! Who knows, maybe I wasn't apathetic enough then.
I still had enough care and love in my soul for my dogs and my family members!

You can't. You don't fight normal Flowery ever in the game the way you fight other monsters. The automated versions are on different paths where you will never see Photoshop Flowey.
