Undertale Yellow: What if you could go to Asgore on a Neutral Route? (Part 1)
Vložit
- čas přidán 8. 03. 2024
- Undertale Yellow is a great game, but another thing that annoyed me was the fact that it's set up both in Undertale and in Yellow itself that Asgore will be some great final boss, and yet you only even see him on two of the four routes, and only "fight" him on one, and it's more of a glorified cutscene. I felt like there was much more potential for the ending of this game, showing Asgore's development into what he would be in UNDERTALE. This animation aims to rectify that.
As you can imagine, this is definitely imperfect, and Undertale Yellow has some glaring continuity errors that make it really difficult to reconcile with the events of undertale, but I tried to make it as canon compliant as possible to both of the stories.

I'll probably make another bonus video with all of the extra interactions and flowey dialogue, but that won't be for a while. This video was already rushed to get it out early. Don't expect the weekly uploads to be a normal thing. Part 2 is going to take longer, because animating fight sequences is difficult, and I really didn't like how Asgore was characterized in UTY, so I want to take extra care to get it right. - Hry

9:29 You know, I think this would have been the first time UTY acknowledges the fact that the Dreemurr family had a human child. Without the context of baseline Undertale, I couldn’t imagine how massive of a reveal that would be.
Weird that Chara isn't once directly referenced.
Like their death's the catalyst to the whole game, the closest we get is Axis accidentally burning Asgore's flowerbed
Yknow, if we think of uty as its own standalone game, then this info could easily be missable, i feel like itd be a good idea if you still had to find the keys to open the path, and there was a key behind the family photo so that you cant miss out on the reveal. Althrough, itd be cool if the game also provided more info about chara, because it would feel too random to not elaborate on something so important, just change the "your power..." option to "the human in the photo..." and boom.
@@dylanzlol7293 I agree, but I feel like you could switch out "my soul" with "the human in the photo," mostly because imagining this as a standalone game, people would go crazy trying to figure out flowey's power.

I love this so much!!! The way Flowey talks about Gaster is so great. Like, it definitely seems like the way Toby Fox would have done it if he were to do so. And the reference to the Holidays...
i dont like the gaster references from _flowey_ but i love everything else
This is really, really, REALLY good. Flowey is written perfectly, and although I feel like he perhaps pops out to talk to Clover a bit much, I just see that as him being a bit on edge and constantly talking to and checking on Clover to make sure things are indeed going on track. Goodness knows how long it's taken for him to get them here, after all!
The Gaster Follower was unexpected but funny nonetheless; I suppose its color palette does make it a good fit for New Home.
"echoes of another" was an AMAZING choice for the music of Asgore's house. Not only does it literally have the Home motif and all that, but considering the fact that it plays during the part where Flowey shows you how long he spent trying to make things work with Clover, it really drives home that after all this time, things are finally going Flowey's way. It also just really fits in general!
Oh, forgot to mention that the fact you made the CORE's inside look a bit different due to the shuffling was both expected but still very nice.
The chair being familiar was neat - I was a tiny bit confused initially and thought maybe it was alluding to the player or something before realizing that of course, Clover's seen the near-identical one in Toriel's home countless times; they just don't remember it.
CLOVER WHY DID YOU TAKE THE EGGNOG THAT WAS ASGORE'S-
I KNOW HE SAID YOU COULD HELP YOURSELF BUT THAT WAS FROM THE HOLIDAYS C'MON DUDE-
(That was a really neat way to reference them, by the way!)
The picture of Asgore, Toriel, Asriel, and Chara, actually being shown a la the interactable pictures in UTY was a really neat touch.
I physically jerked back when Flowey said "It's time to go". I'm going to assume that parallel to Pacifist was intentional, but even if it wasn't, it still hit me like a bullet all the same.
Of course there was the obligatory "You should be smiling, too" shoehorn. It worked well enough and still hit me decently, so there's that.
Looks like Asgore decided to take up poetry, too... at least partially.
-----
I myself was also not a very big fan of how Asgore was done in the original game. While I did absolutely adore my time with the project, it certainly was a bit of a disappointment to see what they'd done (and what they HADN'T done) to one of my absolute favorite characters. This is really neat and I'll definitely be looking forward to the next part whenever it's ready! Thanks for the somewhat closure, haha.
This is a good video, however I think there are a bit too many mentions or hints at W.D gaster. Realistically I don’t think Flowey would even have any reason to start mentioning the old royal scientist and that the core replacing the steamworks was enough.
The gaster follower is also a bit much because we don’t know if they’re naturally monochrome of if they became that way. Regardless everything else is really good!
You could assume that the gaster follower is just a fun event that COULD happen and that they might not appear on that place often.
You can assume they become monochrome after infodumping about gaster too much thanks to clam girl, actually! Since she actively becomes monochrome and disappears after referencing Deltarune. The game that literally opens to what is presumed to be gaster off the bat. So I’d reckon it’s a safe guess :)
@@south452 this is very much true, reinforcing my point!

It's a neat idea to do this, since like you said in the description, asgore is set up a lot and you don't even fight him (well, there's the "fight" in the ending of flawed pacifist but that doesn't count) so it's neat to see how it would have been if Clover actually went to fight asgore
I assume the UTY team figured that it'd be too derivative of Undertale and they wanted UTY to be a new experience, which is why it shares none of the same enemies.
Besides Froggit (who's just one turn and doesn't fight) and Flowey (who has two battles that are very distinct from Omega Flowey)
@@usermcskull4713imo they made it TOO derivative tho, there are continuity errors, the boss battles underuse ACTing, and obviously Asgore was a big, BIG disappointment, especially in Genocide
not just the writing but your choices of facial expressions were good as well. I can tell how you were trying to stay true to undertale yellow's flowey impression. while you wanted to emphasize that "you're going to be free." line, I didn't expect to see flowey's last word, that was a good parallel.

so glad we're moving past the "nobody remembers who gaster was" thing since that was only fanon.
Wait, what? Isn't that what Goner Kid was implying in Undertale?
I dunno, why could Flowey mention and talk about him just fine, but when you put Gaster as your name the whole game restarts. As if there has been some kind of anomaly where the game's only solution is to reload where it hasn't happened yet. I feel like somebody name-dropping him outta the blue is going against canon
@@trekkinmain4974It's weird because of one big inconsistency, if he was completely forgotten by everyone then why did Asgore took so long to replace him? It's the one thing that always feels weird about him being forgotten
@@PixelPandas I don't remember the exact dialogue where that's said, but I feel like that could be explained by Asgore vaguely remembering him and that's affecting the way he acts. Gaster has fallen out of time and space but he could still be affecting the subconscious of those who knew him. I think Goner Kid mentions something like this as well.
I'm still inclined to think monsters struggle to remember his name.
They can recall that there was a Royal Scientist who preceded Alphys and built the CORE, but whenever they try to recall what his name was, they end up drawing a blank.

Imagine if Clover was at genocide route, he could had won against Asgore at LVL 19.
I think you could be correct maybe he couldn’t use the super big shot but considering what he did to axis it’s very possible he still could’ve beat Asgore
In flawed pacifist ending Asgore was going totally all-out against Clover plus this battle took place not too long after the fight with Ceroba meaning Clover was still worn-out however in neutral route he may put up more of a fight against the king of monsters and in genocide route clover would demolished asgore with ease

I really hope you keep working on this!! The work is incredible, and I really feel like the game should've given you the option between visiting Martlet on the roof or visiting Asgore.
Visiting Asgore on Neutral makes sense, with neutral being the "default" route, it's the most canonically safe if it ends with Clover falling for Flowey's plan and dying to Asgore. There is a mod called "The Elevator Mod" but it just lets you enter the elevator in UG Apartments to go to New Home and experience the Flawed Pacifist content basically.
If this were a part of the game and the Martlet scene + Flowey fight were optional and borderline "secret" like the Flawed Pacifist ending is, it would make them way cooler in my opinion.

It did strike me as odd that in the actual Neutral route, Flowey turns homicidal just because I spoke to a bird on the rooftop. I never said I wasn't going to fight Asgore, and I wasn't aware socialization was a crime. Then when you do "fight" Asgore in Flawed Pacifist and Genocide, it's just a forced loss in your favor or Asgore's [especially Flawed Pacifist, I get the whole "Clover's already dead" but come on].

@@syco9008 TL;DR, Flowey existing before all the 6 souls were collected causes some problems with what he says about his time being able to save and load.

Wow... this was incredible. I cannot wait until you finish part 2. Honestly, it would have been really cool if this were in the actual game, perhaps like as the hardest ending, or something. I think it has some really interestiing potential. Especially the part where Clover finds the family photo of Asgore, Toriel, Asriel, and Chara. I think if that were in the actual game, that could make Clover's character more interesting. Instead of believing that all monsters are bad, and that all humans are good, or instead what Frisk thinks, which is all humans are bad and that all monsters are good, finding this picture could have made Clover think and realize that both sides are morally gray, more than anything. It has some real potential.
This was almost perfect. A solid 9.5/10. My only critique is Flowey's dialogue when explaining Clover's soul to him. Other than that, it is amazing. Extremely well done, bravo.
Only problem with UTY was how limited we were, there seems like there could be more to do only for the game to force you in one direction, pacifist forces your death without a choice, neutral you can’t even go to Asgore, you’re forced to stay with Martlet even if you don’t agree, genocide is genocide, not much to say on that since it can’t be changed, and it’s my favorite ending anyway. I get it, Clover is meant to die canonically, but some more non-canon endings than just 1 would be more appreciated.
Enters judgehall and suddenly sans undertale
It's looking good! I'm looking forward to the conclusion.
9:35 bro rly said get tf out of my room LMFAOOO
Would there be dialogue changes depending on the amount of lv or kills you have? Like, say, an aborted genocide run at steamworks or a merciless neutral run or a neutral run with lv 6 or etc.?
That would be cool I think that this would be a potential endgame alternative to the judgments. You kind of get on top of the apartment building normally with flower and Asgore taking
I was wondering how the asgore fight would go, and then I saw lil bro was lvl 2 he ain’t touching asgore 😂
in the trailer for the what if neutral route had clover at lvl 11, I have no idea why the creator decided to decrease their lvl to 2 like that. I feel like clover on aborted genocide in steamworks on lvl 12 would have them stand more of a chance against Asgore
So there is an illogical statement of lore here. Flowey says he wasn't there before the other five souls. Well, Asriel and Chara's death was what caused the need for them.
Flowey didnt want to reveal he's asriel through.
and while Azriel may have been there before flower wasn’t after all, he needed to be reborn due to determination science experiments
asgores house theme sounds so....

for some reason its like i hear the surface itself
Imagine if there was a longer version of undertale yellow's asgore battle theme, given that its only half of the actual ASGORE (aside from the fact that the uty game over motif replaces the ut game over motif)
flowey gonna go crazy
I always wanted this
I've always thought about this when first doing the neutral route (also at 4:43 nice reference to that one cut room in Waterfall with the tall grass)
Cant wait for the extras
This is an extremely well done animation, I thought it was a mod until I read the description haha, you should be proud of yourself
Nice secret dialogue reference on 4:50, which makes sense considering that flowey's always behind the scenes
This is along the lines of what I thought would happen my first neutral playthrough. I went to the top of the hotel before trying the elevator, because it kept saying it was urgent so I figured I’d miss martlet if I kept going. And then after beating flowey, he reset the save, and I speedran all the way back, just to see:
* The elevator is in use.
Wanted to do this so bad!
By the way, I notice some mentions about Yellow having continuity errors... What are some of them? [Guess one that at least felt odd is Chujin mentioning Boss Monsters being immortal until having a child, except Undertale's main 'Boss Monsters' are husband and wife, and actually had a child and Asgore and Toriel seemed fine for their (indeterminate) age.]
The boss monster one is fine. UT barely explains the rules of it. They only age when they have kids. When the kids die, they dont age anymore.
The only direct contridiction that doesn't rely on subtext/implication and outside information is the reason why Alphys was looking for fallen down monsters, in the original UT it was to look for a way to make monster souls last so that they could collect them and substitute them for a human soul. In UTY, Ceroba sends Kanako to Alphys for treatment. This only makes sense if Asgore/Alphys lied about the reasons for collecting fallen down monsters. Alphys herself was expecting the monsters to turn to dust: "ASGORE asked everyone outside the city for monsters that had "fallen down." Their bodies came in today. They're still comatose... And soon, they'll all turn into dust. But what happens if I inject "determination" into them? If their SOULS persist after they perish, then... Freedom might be closer than we all thought. things aren't going well. none of the bodies have turned into dust, so I can't get the SOULs. i told the families that i would give them the dust back for the funerals. people are starting to ask me what's happening. what do i do?" Also instead of Ceroba feeling that Kanako is alive, she should've just stated that Alphys called her to tell her that 'a few months/ a year/shortly after sending her' as Alphys did do that. Theres a few things that rely on subtext or small details from UT to become contradictions, mainly the timeline. Toriel (whos immortal until she gets killed or has a kid again and is implied to be significantly old, to her it would not be a long time) says to Frisk that a human hasn't fallen in a long time. The true lab experiments and Flowey's existence: The intent in UT from Toby was for him to be created after the 6th soul was taken, as it would make sense for a royal scientist to try and make soul power by collecting a ton of monster souls to replace a single human soul (according to the waterfall murels and the end of the TP route, it would take basically every monster soul to equal one human soul, which would also only really be an option if humans were extremely rare as well, but UTY forces Integrity, Clover, and Frisk into a very short timeframe of a few years). The save file numbering also implies that Flowey popped up after the 6 human souls were collected but since it relies on outside information (game files) it doesn't technically need to be taken into account. Some other stuff like the steamworks opening/closing dates as well.
Side note: Nowhere in UTY is Asgore's full plan of going to war against humanity mentioned. I think if Clover gave up their soul after learning that it would be kinda bizarre so maybe thats why it wasn't included? Idk.
@@evilness3404 If that last part was true, it does sound a bit ironic. Clover gives up their soul for the monsters to be free... And by the way, go through with war due to the tense relations and possible grudges against the human oppressors.
@mastermewtwo5503 i mean it is true. It is mentioned like 4 or 5 times in Undertale by major bosses (implicitly by toriel, explicitly by Undyne and Mettaton) that Asgore would wipe out humanity. The fact that it wasn't mentioned at all in UTY is baffling to me, but I like the game's story anyways so i look past it
As an update to this: the game actually does mention both of these. Blackjack mentions the overthrow humanity thing, and you can find a note in Ceroba's house from the royal science division, Ceroba just lied about it in the steamworks entrance cutscene.
The blackjack line tho is pretty vague and if clover knew Asgore was saying he would overthrow humanity and still decided to give up their soul it does make their character a bit weird, maybe they see humanity as having done such a massive sin that they deserve punishment as a whole? Would mirror the No Mercy route Clover, i suppose.
I believe in this case, maybe we could get pass asgore (wich would lead us to a Omega Flowey but with 5 souls battle) that we maybe woundt win in an alternative universe this could be the case
If flowey can kill an aborted genocide clover easily, wouldnt this lead to flowey's victory?
@@dylanzlol7293 potentially yes, the only reason frisk won in the original is because Asgore held back
@@dylanzlol7293 Well, Souls can get rebellious like it happened in undertale. So, perhaps, there's still some hope left.
@@tealover2871 only because frisk called for help at the end, otherwise they were screwed
@@dylanzlol7293 Clover can do the same thing, if Flowey will get cocky, of course.
AAAAA YAYAY THANK YOU
this is neat ngl
holy crap i wonder when is part 2!
Imagine if you could use a debug menu to move through the velvet rope
the elevator doesnt seem to.... NOOOOOOOOO
Man I really wanted to see Clover dance in the elevator
9:35 Sick reveal actually, given that Clover does not have Undertale sequences. Pretty solid Gaster and Holiday references as well.
flowey at the end:
They all dont matter now, but i respect if you want to say goodbye before the end
This would be a great idea, instead of flowey betraying you after going to marlet,he basically does the same like in normal UT,you defeat asgore and he takes the 5 souls and tries to kill you
this is godly
What you going to do with this I wonder? Will you break the chains of Destiny and kill Asgore? Or... or...
Wonder if Martlet or anyone one else will show up... in the end?
maybe there’ll be a different version of the funeral from the true pacifist ending
this theoretical funeral would change, depending on what happened in the neutrals as well as what your LV was giving the opportunity for real neutral endings just like in the original UT
@@johay899 That fateful phone call... though there's also the fact that maybe Clover would win this this time? If so... phone call?
They should just add this as an option highkey
