Releasing the spare wheel on a Peugeot 206

- Walkthrough of the process for releasing the spare wheel on the Peugeot 206. The spare wheel is stored underneath the car, and requires a hook to be loosened from the boot to release it. Hopefully this video helps explain how!
I should mention... when reversing the steps, to secure the spare wheel back under the car, be careful to check the cage afterwards, to ensure you can't lift it off the hook. The screw must be appropriately tightened in the boot to ensure the hook is secure, otherwise there is a risk of the cage jumping off the hook while you are driving along. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
This video saved my life. Thank you this is a perfect example of why CZcams is a great platform.
Thank you for saving me a couple of hours and a few violent outbursts... - much appreciated.
Me too I know nothing about cars so this really helped thank you
Very good tutorial. I just bought a second hand Peugeot 206. Thanks for posting.
absolutely loved your explanation of all the details clear and concise description
really appreciate your feedback b s.... always glad to hear whether I described things clearly or not!
Thank you for your teachings. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you very much for the video - Like +LargeScaleFilm I had to put the spare wheel back and it was clear and helpful!
Putting it in the boot would be a MUCH better idea!!! Thanks for the really clear video.
Roger Griffith would you rather not have boot room then?
until you have to empty a boot full of junk onto the side of a motorway to access the spare wheel, this is way better, can just move things away from the bolt and drop the wheel down..
@@rubenbraekman4515 With a coin-sized wheel like this it doesn't matter much.
@@davidcopson5800 I own one of these yes the boot space is a lot better with the spare like this
Thanks for the informative video mate!
Thanks, Dude !
It was really helpful !
Thanks v much for the video mate. Great help.
Good work mate, thank you.
very useful vdo. I just found out where is my wheel jack hiding? happy to know wheel cage opening and getting Jack for car .
Bro thank you so much! You helped me survive :)
Thanks - Had a wheel change at the garage and they didn't put it back properly. Several parts in the boot and the loose wheel squeaking like a demented Hyena! This helped me see how to put the assembly back correctly. Thanks. The spacer on top of the wheel needs to brace against the strut that roughly runs between the back wheels. Thanks again.
+LargeScaleFilm No problem at all, glad it helped!
very useful video..thanks very much
thanks mate very nice explanation
Good vid. Clearly presented
Fab thanks for this. You have a nice voice.
Mil gracias , una hora buscando este video
This video was more helpful than owners manual Thank you so much
You're lucky you got the car with an owner's manual.
@@davidcopson5800 😁
Well explained thanks!
Thanks, it helped me a lot
Thanks, helped a lot
i love this car, i have onebut the day it fell down when i was driving was a terror!!!i thought the car split in half lol, it even made some sparks from drag
Is it very heavy releasing it from hook by hand... and then when putting the wheel back into cage and having to lift it back up onto hook again.. is that heavy and hard to do again? Im wondering how Im going to manage this with the weight of the wheel
Really helpful 👌.
Thank you for showing
Stupid Design but thanks a lot for the good video
Very clear and useful video although I had worked it out myself . I do have a question though , when I fitted the space saver to get me home I could not really tighted the wheel nuts up tight to the steel space saver , they were fully tight but not up against the wheel so I had a small amount of play!! I went home really slow . Are there meant to be spacers in the kit to account for the thickness of the alloys?
The Owner's Manual with my Australian delivery 206 GTi has a diagram specifically showing you that the flat washer does not fully conform to the typical French "wavy wheel" - but this is as intended - it is secure. I'm back to these silly French ideas after more than 40 years with Japanese, German and even Italian cars that are much better designed for maintenance and access. My 1965 Renault 10 actually had specially formed wheel nuts that located correctly in the "wavy wheel " to distribute the loads properly. The 2002 GTi uses much cheaper flat washers to save a few pennies!
I didn't even realise I had a spare until 4 mins ago 😂
Thank you for sharing ;)
Can a single person put the replacement wheel back on the case?
Would you recommend putting a cover over the spare wheel (similar to those you see on the back of Land Rovers) to protect the wheel from rusting?
Nice idea Stanley! I've never worried about it to be honest, given the wheel is a "space saver" spare (thinner, and designed purely to get you home rather than as a long term replacement).
If it was possible, it would be nice to look after it. The challenge is: any pure canvas option would ripple with the airflow, and probably make quite a bit of noise when driving. But a solid structure would probably not fit in the cage.
The wheel you see in the video was 10 years old at the time. The rust is unlikely to cause any issue other than aesthetics. If it's important to you for it to look good, I'd be more tempted to clean any cover rust up, then mask the rubber (and max speed sticker), and spray paint it annually to provide a layer of protection, and keep it looking good. Would be interested to see if you find a way to cover it though.
Is this have every peugeot 206cc ?
So many comments saying this is a stupid design.. guess you have never had to empty a whole boot of junk on the side of a motorway to get the spare wheel from under the carpet.. it’s an amazing design.
As I said. Don't fill your boot full of junk. Why are you the only person here who thinks this design is amazing?
Peugeot 206 isn’t really the most attractive car as in looks but they do run very well. I have a 2002 model 1 owner from new and runs amazing!! Just keep them clean and check engine oils frequently and they are 👌🏻
How can i then remove the bucket?
Didn't work on my 306 cabriolet. I did what you suggested but it's not dropping.
The design isn't even that bad, putting the jack in the wheel is. I had a flat rear, no problemo. Dropped the cage with the wheel. Spare can't get out because the car is too low now. Yeah great engineering
i never understand this idea of putting the spare wheel outside the car, and not in the boot like in other cars, its the same on my Citroen c2, this makes the wheel get all rusty, and sometimes even the rubber can get damaged, not to mention its harder to access
I guess you have never had to empty a boot full of junk on the side of a motorway before, it’s an amazing idea.
@@hindsonracing relax Leah I mean how much shit do do drive around with in your boot anyway. Its bad for your fuel economy to have so much weight in the fucking boot anyway. Take that shit out of your boot and leave in at home.
Thanks
How unlucky I looked at thebother videos but didnt get any help and when I was trying to load it lost the mobile internet connection and then tryed my luck and end up almost killing myself as I was underneath this van and the jack slipped away
thanks allot
i found this a very useful tuition to remove my wheel,i was broke down on the side of the motorway and with slow internet connection on my phone only took 7 hours 35 minutes to remove my wheel. do you have anymore videos of how to put it back on as im still sitting here
craig oloan Haha, afraid no video for that... but it's a logical reversal of the steps. You'll find that you need to manually lay on the ground and push the cage back up, and move the hook to hold onto the cage itself before you re-tighten the screw in the boot.
It's not the classiest of mechanisms... I'd certainly not like to do it in wet weather on a muddy road.
If you're seriously putting it back up, be careful to ensure the cage can't jump back off the hook. I lay down and physically shake/lift the cage, to make sure the screw is tight enough to prevent the cage from jumping back off the hook... particularly if no wheel is in it, that cage is vulnerable to releasing itself if not appropriately fixed in place.
Hope you had luck on the motorway... not a nice experience, I'm sure.
@@Artexic ...or ring the AA
I took the spare wheel out because of a rattling sound however the cage is still causing more noise. Does anyone know how I go about removing this cage, im pretty sure I would have to jack the car up?
+elitedonk Not sure about removing the cage, though as you can see in the video, if the wheel is in the cage and you tighten up the screw, it shouldn't be able to vibrate, so it's either the hinge end of the cage, or something else on the car. It would be worth putting the wheel back in for now, and may trying to rattle the cage about to see if the hinge end is loose.
I put my spare for my 206 in 2 large black bags to protect it from the elements. When I got the car the spare was really rusty and I had to change it.
You'd think a car manufacturer would anticipate that wouldn't you? I've actually put mine in the boot itself.
I think this spare wheel is the cause of the rattling sound i keep hearing when i go over bumps and at high speed. Anyone else have this problem?
+elitedonk hey, same problem here, that could be the cause. thanks. have to check it out.
Thanks for sharing but why are your voice robotic?
How do you put it back together???....everytime i try to turn the bolt inside the car its turning the hook also so the cage keeps dropping back down??
Hi Sarah, if you hook the correct part of the cage you should be ok. If the cage is empty it is possible that this is too light to fight the hook from turning. Maybe ask a friend to hold the hook or tie some rope around the cage and stand firmly on other end, keeping it tight to prevent the cage pulling upwards as you tighten the screw.
Thank you!!
Bear Smith 1. You must have a wheel in the cage! 2. When screwing, lift up the cage + wheel so it presses against car. With no weight, your fingers will easily turn screw head. After a few turns, slip the latch's curved end over the cage. Use the tool finally to tighten. Not too much, don't want to damage the rubber. Just so there's no movement.
Thanks a lot... have you get rid of the cage afterwards?
ie I want to remove the wheel just to ease the car, replace it with tyre repair spray.
Just reverse the actions... you need to push the cage back up and move the hook to hold the cage. Ensure you tighten the screw up enough such that the cage is able to move up and down, or it may "bounce" off the hook while you're driving along!
Artexic I just got rid of the spare, just came in, why would I keep the cage, I want to reduce the weight of the car. I eventually found out how to do that, lift the car on the ramp then let the cage at about 45 deg down.
Do you think it's a bad practice replacing the spare with the tyre spray? I thought that's why you removed it.
Militaru Dan I needed the spare actually, hence the cage was still needed. I personally prefer a spare, as it allows for blowouts etc.. rather than waiting at the side of the road for help in these cases. That said... most new cars don't come with spare tyres these days in the UK.. it's a personal choice, I don't think it's bad practice. I'd be tempted to keep the cage in your garage at least, so it's there when you come to sell the car.
thank you
Pleasure Jelena
your will com:-) :-) :-)
🤜
Most cars have it inside the boot. I didn't know my car had a spare at all
Me neither man the cops gave me a fine once because I didn't know it was underneath the car.
у меня походу цыгане украли этот ящик, который должен быть в запаске🤔🤣
Hey let's hang the spare wheel under the car where it will get corroded and covered in mud and dead badgers from the road. Crappy design. Where the cradle goes press a wheel-shaped dip in the boot and put the wheel in there, you know, like normal cars! Admittedly this video did save me a lot of frustration. Now where's the bonnet release handle!
who tf thought making a round bolt with a giant flat head is a good idea? why not just use a regular hexagonal head?
One of the worst designs ever!
better than emptying a whole boot of rubbish to get to the spare wheel on the side of the motorway! amazing idea in my opinion
@@hindsonracing Don't keep rubbish in your boot. Terrible design in my opinion.
@@davidcopson5800 i dont like it also, i would prefer to take everything out instead of have my hands very dirty!!!!i have a peugeot 206 i wish it was another design.3 or 4 years ago that spare wheel housing fell down on the street omg it was a terror
100% agree - I had a flat tyre yesterday and found the hanger bolt completely seized due to rust. Why didn't they put a bolt head on the top so you can get some purchase on it?? Terrible.
This vid is for people who want explanations to go v e r y s l o w
Sorry Bryan, I try to make my videos clear and easy to follow but rewatching this, I'm not sure I'd found the fast forward feature in the editing software. I'm not sure if CZcams will let me change this now, but I'll take a look.
Apologies for the speed, but I hope it helped you get to the spare wheel eventually! Appreciate the feedback.
Artexic. I just got a 206 no manual, and the vid did help me so I shouldnt criticise. Having said that, Id have made quick sequences of the tool's location, the screw head's location, the latch underneath, unscrewing and so on. Then splice the sequences together. Not one long sequence you can't fast forward. Thanks anyway
No problem at all Bryan... Constructive criticism is always welcome (I've "liked" your comment on that basis)! Points noted!
Best of luck with the car. I loved mine, relatively simple cars and fun to drive. I've got a few other videos on the 206 so maybe worth a look at them for headlights etc.
Putting it back in sucks balls.
