  • This is a partial video that takes you through the difficult process for removal of both the hot water heater and the front coach floor heater on a 2001 RV that has the Winnebago "Motoraide" option whereby engine coolant is circulated around the water heater to warm water during driving without the use of electricity or propane. The reassembly is NOT yet part of this video. This is a very difficult job and I recommend watching this full video before you decide to take on this task.

I can't tell you how much I appreciate guys like you, who put these videos together for the benefit of others. I needed information and you provided it, and more. I just bought a 2003 model and needed to know how to winterize it, and I ended up getting answers to several questions, just from your video. Thanks a million!

Additional comment..thanks for the detailed views so now I know if I get a coolant leak at either the water heater or cabin heat I can go behind the wheel and just bypass both and loop the hoses right there and could go without both heating. Thanks again.

Or you could bypass one or the other. Doesn’t have to be both.

Thank you for being a brave soul to disassemble this. I have a 2000 Itasca and have wondered many times how I would do this if I ever needed. Very well done.

the 2 black water lines going to the water heater from the engine are there to heat water in the water heater while traveling.

some time all you have 2 do is remove the unit take the fan off the motor shaft and add a cpl washers between the fan and motor. what happens is the fan vibrates over against the housing and it binds the motor so it will not turn at correct speed and thus blows a fuse. if the motor turns frzeely without the fan installed then try this before you buy a fan.

The “glue” is mastic. You should cut that right after pulling the screws. It makes removal much easier, won’t bend the unit as much and can be done with an insulation knife from Harbor Freight available for just a few bucks.

Thanks for that. I will add that recommendation to my final video on this subject.
Boy do I absolutely hate plumbing. It turned out that my water heater had a leak in a factory aluminum weld line on the tank. I had to stop and take the tank in for weld repair. But it came back in good shape and I'll be installing it soon and wrapping up the project. NOTE: You cannot find these same water heaters any longer. If yours breaks, get it repaired at almost any cost, unless you want to retrofit an new water heater.

I removed my blower today and it was bound up. I removed the fan wheel by removing spring on end and put washer on motor shaft and reassembly. Wheel spins free now. Somehow wheel works its way back and rubs on blower housing. Stupid design. Just a spring clip holding it? I put epoxy on end of clip and shaft to help. Hope this helps someone.

Did you post further information about the blower - motor aid system? mine quit working and I have a 60 amp fuse that just blows when you replace it. Dash heat doesn't work either anymore.

Yes, if i was a semi-professional video maker and i knew up front what the story was and i had felt like editing it more. Its a big job and not for everyone… 47 minutes is small price to pay for avoiding a bullet. If you start this ans cant it, i bet its a $1500 repair at best with the authorized service center.
I may reissue the video in a short and concise form when the job is complete. I probably will. Once the path is known, this could be 15 minutes long.

@@marcschneider6510 Good grief, everybody is a critic. Appreciate the work and the time and extra effort you took to film it. I am sure it cost you well more than 47 minutes of your time to provide this free service for the benefit of others. Appreciate it!
