  • The Bushwhackers (1952) Full Movie featuring John Ireland, Wayne Morris, Lawrence Tierney and is directed by Rod Amateau. Written by Tom Gries, Rod Amateau.
Plot here has Confederate veteran Jeff Waring arriving in Independence, Missouri shortly after the Civil War, and intending never again to use a gun. He finds that rancher Artemus Taylor, an arthritic despot, and his henchies, Sam Tobin and Cree, are forcing out the settlers in order to claim their land for the incoming railroad. The plot nearly predates "The Great Train Robbery" in age, but the gritty execution, and well-acted performances, take it out of the norm, way out, in a couple of instances. Brassy Myrna Dell is on hand as Taylor's independent daughter, only slightly less meaner than her father, and the always welcome Dorothy Malone is the pretty school marm on the side of good. Ireland's passive outlook on life changes before the end.

When I saw several children playing in the street THATS something I realized would have been extremely common in these old movies. There should be many more scenes like that! My dad had 9 siblings and all generations before WE SHOULD express this in more old movies!

They don't make old movies anymore. The best we can do is express this in new movies.

Back when the news was more than a propaganda service for "The Party" and still had honor. Good movie.

My sentiments exactly Bret! US voters are being played by both parties through control of the media!

"women are the baggage of life, a heavy burden yet we cannot do without them." How absolutely true. Couldn't the world be a better place?

It must have been a lot of fun on the set of this one...Teirney, Ireland, and Morris were all well known drinkers and womanizers...long before the "me too" movement.
