  • The interplay between energy and technology is a fundamental principle that underlies the progress of civilizations. As society gains access to more energy sources, it can develop new technologies that enable it to harness even more energy, leading to a self-reinforcing cycle of advancement.

    I wish humans were intelligent enough to set aside their petty differences and work toward a "Star Trek future". An age where money doesn't exist and everyone is utilized for their true talents. The only way we don't become extinct, just like the dinosaurs, is if we populate the stars. We must get off of this rock and populate other worlds.
    If we work together instead of killing each other, anything is possible. There literally is no limit to how far we could evolve.

      @donaldduck830 Před 8 měsíci

      @@jdhi5279 power consumption does not care about the source. That is the beauty of electricity: Transportable power where you don't see where it comes from.
      China increases its production via more coal-fired power plants. Germany decreased its production via shutting down relatively modern and safe NPPs while buying from less safe alternatives from their neigboring states.
      None of the sources we have available today are clean or renewable (solar panels degrade quickly, wind power destroys birds & influences the weather,...). Neither are oil & coal not renewable (fossilized biomass. Takes a long time, but comes from plants).
      Technological advancement means more efficiency. If we used vacuum tubes for our mobile phones, they would need to be the size of Manhattan each and every single one would consume more power than the entire US produces. But with integrated circuits, they are possible, portable and energy efficient.

      Nowadays, we call Dyson's original proposal/idea a "Dyson Swarm" ... it was actually lots and lots of big stellar power collection nodes (essentially advanced mega-solar panels) configured as an orbiting "swarm" of nodes. It didn't fully enclose the star, and still allowed the star to provide natural lighting and warmth to the planets and other celestial bodies in the system. Sci-fi elaborated on this further and came up with fully enclosed sphere idea ... but I think this is only necessary if you are _hiding_ from someone or going down the "stealthy civilization" route to avoid contact or being found by others ... if you capture all the star's light, heat, IR, etc and convert it to energy it'd be quite hard or perhaps impossible to detect such a civilization from interstellar distances with some additional stealth and "camouflage" tech ... which a civilization trying to hide itself would undoubtedly invest a lot of effort into.

    Assuming it’s a canonical limit, a Type II civilization could hit the same 2-week communication transit time limit the Roman Empire hit up against. In their case, it was how far a series of postal system horses could run in 2 weeks; in the case of a Type II civilization aspiring to Type III, it might end up being 2 light weeks or 2,424 AU, which is 0.877% of the distance to Alpha Centauri. Based on the experience of Rome, that could end up being the limit of effective governance. If so, then every alien spacecraft we’ve ever found could be hopelessly cut off from its parent civilization. In that case, it would be much more of a scientific benefit than an existential threat.

      This assumes function in a human time-scale. Augmented intelligence could operate thousands of times faster than human timescales and reduce the time between critical response to seconds of minutes, effectively stranding a Type II civilization at the limits of it's own Dyson Sphere.
      This would make the relatively tiny Fiefdoms living off of Fusion on the icy moons of gas giants, the colloquial boondocks of a civilization, and almost infinitely out of touch with the lightning fast evolving inner solar system.
      It would also make traveling to other stars very unappealing. The desire to move would only begin to rise as the imminent death of the central star became inevitable.

    I would like to think that the final civilization would have the power over the void itself. The very thing that would encompass the dimensions within it. The danger that type of civilization would face would be being consumed by it. To never have existed in the first place for all of existence. I believe that this level of existence would also be full of paradoxes as the natural way of things. So much so it can infest some universes from the outside, changing them forever. So in essence a paradox is but a piece of the abyss consuming a piece of existence.

    What we must understand about reaching those higher levels of civilization isn't so much having the technology to make it happen. It would be needing the resources to make such a thing possible. That's where the endeavor becomes inherently less ideal. Because then we'd have to siphon from other planets resources in order to achieve it. It's that "planet destroyer" scenario. We would become so fixated on achieving the next level that we would stop at nothing to achieve it. Because when you're that powerful there would be nothing to stop you. And what happens when we achieve the highest level known in the universe? That's a whole other level of power we couldn't even fathom. Enough to create or destroy universes themselves

    You can also move bricks using "Magnetic Field" too. Build a magnetize bracket around the brick, the bracket has to be removeable for the next use and it must have a locking device to lock the brick for transportation. Then build a staff with a magnetic sphere ball on the top end, the staff need to have a switch to turn on and off the magnetic field. Surround the brick with 10 to 15 people depending the size of the brick (each person must have he/her own staff for this operation). The group have to work in unison to move the brick in position and turn off the magnetic to drop the brick in place. The key is "Magnetic field" and you can do move the brick with so many methods.

    I am very sceptical of the idea of a civilization above, or even at level 3. Despite the advances of science in our time, groups of people remain very diverse and this could be expected as a consequence of the natural tendency to disorder. Also the vast distances and lengths of time for travel and communication across even our galaxy would make it highly unlikely that any species would not diversify and, if possible, end up fighting the "daughter" species and civilizations. Any civilization, I think, is inevitably limited in time and space.

Starting with, you predicate the behavior of entirely different species groups based on our own... which is... never successful, its been tried by the West in comprehending other cultures here on earth, and trust me, it has failed. You then presume that another species civilization would PERMIT diversity in its population and that such diversity, or even rebellion against the accepted order is even possible for all species groups... which we know from animal models, and insect models, it isn't. We see diversity as desirable, how exactly do you know they do? How do you know that they do not have better conflict resolution than we do - and therefore that diversity doesn't effect cohesion? You presume a similar psychological mindset - based on what exactly? In fact, the implied assumptions in your brief post are far more unlikely to all be true than the type of Super Civilization that the author of the piece is suggesting.

      You’re correct. In scaling of life the less advanced something is the more it reproduces. Single cell organisms can reproduce by splitting themselves. Up the scale and insects of any kind reproduce at mass levels. Up the scale again and even among animals the more advanced the less offspring is needed. Some animals will have four of five at birth. The more advanced species will have one or two born. Humans that have a chaotic life generally reproduce young and often. They’ll have many children. This is to pass on genes quickly before they die out as their lineage attempts to remove errors in it, generation by generation. People of a higher quality of life don’t need to pass on their genes to workout errors that aren’t there anymore. They have a need to increase their own quality of life because their lives would be longer.
      We’re on such a low level that we still sexually reproduce. You get 50% of your genes from your mother and 50%from your father. That is to pass on to you before they die. At some point as we scale up, sex is no longer needed because immediate death has been conquered. Once again these life forms don’t seek to reproduce but to improve on their quality of life. Evolution pushes for them to reproduce as one single life form by fusing them together. One energy life form with another form with another. They don’t make more of themselves but less. Each one pairing with another one to make a single thing with less errors. Type 5 and Type 6 would have this behavior.
      Type 7 would have no need to do this process because it’s already at the pinnacle of existence. Type 7 are perfect within itself and has no need for anything external to it. Nothing can add to or subtract from its existence. The Type 8 is UNKNOWN. It if it exist at all doesn’t interact with anything lower than itself at all. Type 8 would even be completely unknown to even Type 7 entities.

But we wouldn't have homes...we would be "housed" in rows of units and basically be prisoners. What is described in the beginning of the video sounds like an upper class utopia. Mid and lower classes would only exist to serve. It would be a dystopia for everyone who isn't wealthy if progress tracks relative to how society treats the poor and less fortunate right now.

    While Dyson Spheres may seem like a great idea to most, what I see is if you're taking away all the different types of energy produced by a star, wouldn't that basically kill a solar system? I would think that the Dyson Sphere would take away/block the different types of energy produced by the star from the rest of the Solar System. One of the types of energy would be the amount of gravity the planets experience and thereby taking the planets out of their natural orbital path. OFC that could be a good or bad thing depending on the final outcome. WHEW!! All this thinking is giving me a headache! ;) LOL

Almost everything we have built or recorded(now digital) are all gone as well. No records. Wiped. So if there were any advanced civilizations before us, i feel they had most things digitally recorded or something of the same sort and when they were wiped, so was all their history.

    • @cm3368
      @cm3368 Před 8 měsíci +5

      The problem is that the evidence of any previously advanced civilisation would be abundant through its influence on the wider world itself; there would be indications of genetic engineering or the cross-breeding of various plant and animal species throughout the fossil record - instead we see fairly mundane and linear evolutionary pathways, there would be glass, plastic or ceramic sediments found in the seabed or deep below the surface as these materials do not naturally degrade, there would be anomalous radioactivity attributed to nuclear isotopes that cannot occur naturally and take millions of years to decay, there would be evidence that resources such as fossil fuels have previously been used and reservoirs have been depleted as all fossil fuels exist only from the time before decomposing organisms and as such can never again be replenished
      There would additionally be large climactic shifts and extinction level events that don't coincide with those already linked to natural causes, and there would be warming and cooling patterns that exist on the Anthropocene scale of mere centuries rather than natural ten-thousand year cycles, if we ourselves went extinct suddenly and without warning, our cities would still stand for hundreds of thousands if not millions of years, our satellites and space debris would endure for billions more as would our vehicles left behind on the moon and Mars, any species looking here in the far distant future would find contaminated metals and high levels of background radioactivity from the thousands of nuclear tests conducted throughout the last few decades, they would find unusual animals displaying traits and behaviours totally unsuited for living wild with genomic expressions that should have been naturally selected out, and they would find large volumes of microplastics in the oceans that will never go away
      We find none of this, so it's infinitely more likely than not that we are first technological civilisation of earthly origin

      Which is why we ARE the aliens many humans speculate about. All the UFO and Alien sightings are most likely us from the future.

Since this is inevitable that means it's already happened and we are already at that point in the future. Alien sightings could very well just be us travelling through time.

      Whoever unlocks the keys to understanding these technologies is not going to come from some math wiz at MIT, but from some guy that’s playing video games and has weird ideas that aren’t produced from conventional academic sciences.
      If a police officer can develop a vehicle that is powered by water, a cashier at a grocery store could accidentally stumble across a non conventional way to magnetize a stone or create an electric current that runs through air.

    A very nice exercise in out of the box thinking, and as such it is a great presentation going far beyond what is normally discussed and considered. One aspect that has not been considered here, and it is absolutely vital for these kinds of discussion is the fact of biology, changes in species like ourselves, and limits that this alone puts on this kind of mental exercise.
    Before we leave this planet, our solar system, and "go to the stars", we will have to leave behind our bodies, as they simply are not suitable for these higher realms of existence. Once we evolve to a pure thought, will, spirit - however we want to slice it, this evolution will take time, and we stop existing as species that we can understand or even imagine today. So, will it be still "our story"? It seems obvious that before we get to the "level two" of this game (LOL) we will not exist anymore as biological beings, hence we shall not need these kinds of exercises. Is it a natural development?
    And one more thought, there were many on this planet who wanted to be "like gods", or even twisted reality of others to "be gods" to others... but simple truth about life on Earth has verified all of them to the dust they became after just a short beep on the map of history of one more quite primitive species on this planet. Yes, we have a potential... some say even a great potential... and still we cannot cross over to the peace era and prosperity of all with no more greed ruling over common sense, or even the will of the majority. We still live in the dark ages where a few try to rule the rest, and use all available to them means to get what they want.
    We were given by few very bright minds tools to be a gift to the humankind - like the internet, and what is happening with it? That small group has organized itself into a coup trying to take over the control over what is and never was theirs to have. They work effortlessly and with putting all their resources into turning the rest into neo-slaves, and through the daily hypno-transfussion of propaganda by their media to turn off critical thinking of others they created WW3 - psychological war for the global dominance.
    So where are we on this way to the stars?
    The Universe is full of marvels, but also death traps. We - the humanity, are in the examination hall, writing our one time only exam, of ... existence... Shall we pass it... we go to the future... shall we fail it as MANY before us... we turn, like many... into dust. The clock is ticking, the next "extinction level event" will happen, and it will come, as always, unannounced... When? I just said... unannounced, this is an exam not a rehersal...
