    Genevieve here! Hello Sarah and Paul, miss you two already. I will admit I was a bit surprised when you came with a camera rolling. But so grateful you found our little corner of paradise Thank you so much for sharing the SilverPearl. It matters very much to me that my guests enjoy their stay. This is so incredibly interesting to me!! My mother moved to Marco a year ago, and I followed I live 45 minutes away. I always go kayaking with my mom and boyfriend at Caxambas and goodland (where my uncle now lives)!! We have literally passed this house boat so many times and we always are without a doubt very intrigued and always wanted to know more. I’m very surprised this video has shown up! It’s so funny to see the other side of who was potentially watching me admiring the house boat!

    People were encouraged to help themselves.

    I live on Marco Island. I have passed by this houseboat lots of times, (via my boat). I would like to add some thoughts... You went in June when it is one of our hottest and buggiest months . Please make sure you stay hydrated and keep lots of sunblock on. When you are on the water, the sun reflects off the water and can burn you more quickly and even burn you worse. That being said, you will have a beautiful sun-kissed tan in just a few days! A few citronella candles and some soft skin body oil in the evening will make the bugs very tolerable. If you eat fish... You are right next to the mangroves where there are some excellent eating fish. Buy a few-day fishing license and gear and you will never go hungry! I can go on and on and on ... But I just wanted to give my thoughts. It is a beautiful houseboat and Marco Island has so very much to offer.

      Congrats on the future move! We love the west coast of Florida and hope you will too! One thing though- we're not sure if this houseboat is still there. After the hurricane that hit Marco Island last year, we haven't been able to get in touch with the boat owners and it appears that this rental listing is no longer available. That's a bummer because it was just such a cool experience! If you find any other boat rentals in the area, please let us know! We'd love to try it again sometime soon!

    We have boathouses along the Mississippi River here in WI (and MN) and you can basically live in them (many have shore power and even water). The catch is that the DNR will not let you build anymore and if you fix one, you have to keep it the same size. They sell for a lot of money these days (what doesn't). No dolphins.

    Looks like an incredible place to spend some time. Just a few comments about the boat, from someone who owned a houseboat of about that size for 23 years and lived on it for 8 years. First, it's strange that the fresh water on the boat isn't potable. Most RVs and houseboats have potable water in their tanks. Second, with 600 watts of solar and a battery bank, I'm surprised you'd have to worry at all about electricity. If you had some high-draw devices like a toaster, coffee maker or hair dryer, I could understand. But without those items It shouldn't be a concern at all. I have 190 watts on a camper and 200 amp hours worth of battery bank, and I never give it a second thought. Whatever power I use out of the batteries at night is easily replaced by noon the following day. But I have no high-draw appliances.
    House boating really is a great adventure. I miss it every day, and may get another one some day.

    • @PSAdventures
      @PSAdventures  Před 2 lety +4

      You're definitely right about the power needs. With that much solar and the battery bank it was probably way more than we even needed. After spending a few days on the houseboat it really did make us want one! What an adventure living on one for 8 years. Wow! We're very drawn to off-grid life. We might have to start with something a little easier like a van. Thanks so much for watching!

    • @garylewis327
      @garylewis327 Před 2 lety +4

      @@PSAdventures It was a great way to live. Just being on the water has a calming influence on me. There was a beaver who would cross the river every evening at dusk upstream from me, then swim directly downstream and pass right next to my boat. I don't know if he was going to work or returning from it, but I loved his daily visits. A crow would sometimes sit on my railing while I ate lunch on the back deck a couple of feet from him. Sometimes sea lions would swim up from San Francisco and pass by, catching and playing with fish along the way. Ducks would swim by with their chicks every spring. An owl in a big tree near my boat hooted me to sleep on many nights. This was on the Pacific Flyway so every spring and fall there would be thousands of geese overhead in giant V formations, calling out to each other as they flew by on their journey. There were floods (which are quite scary when you're literally living on the water), entertainment (the endless passing of nearly every kind of boat you could imagine during the boating season), and peaceful, surreal days shrouded in fog during the winter. And it was also quite an inexpensive way to live, which allowed me to save money for an early retirement. It absolutely was an adventure, and one I'll never forget.

You could take car camping trips to state parks in the meantime to get some of the same benefits. Or you could even splurge and book this houseboat for you and your family. pretty incredible. The downside is , many cities have now placed zoning restrictions on houseboats and anything similar, basically an indirect mechanism to make sure all residents pay property tax. I doubt its taken hold in florida, but in northwest its extremely expensive to live in a houseboat.

    • @PSAdventures
      @PSAdventures  Před rokem +1

      We've heard how expensive it can be in other places around the country. Since this is anchored and not docked at a dock I think the taxes don't get to these kinds of places. Interesting way to live though! It's probably similar to sailboats that anchor in different places in the water.

Then spent the entire call sitting on my boat. Half way thru someone asked that we close our car windows because of the wind noise. I put my phone on mute. When the meeting ended I discovered I was aground. So, had to stay a few more hours fishing.

      Haha! It's amazing all the things you can power with solar alone! There's an old A/C unit that you mentioned in the background that she said was meant to connect to shore power a long time ago but I don't think works anymore. When we stayed there wasn't a generator, but it was all solar power alone. So amazing! In some of the clips you can hear the hum from the solar charge controller unit in the background near the kitchen. Electricity definitely makes life easier! ⚡🔌🔋🌞

      George you made good observations (another duh...the clear as day code lock on the slider and yet they were looking all around for how to enter 😂 ) One thing I think of re:Gennie or motor: I dont think Id want Air BnB guests running a gennie or driving the houseboat around. You just cannot assume people know how to use these safely or use common sense 😉 Like one AirBnB we stayed in as their first house guests. There was a gorgeous double fireplace in the living room/den. We have always had a fireplace in our homes so know how to operate the flues etc. There was a malfunction in the flue. We instantly knew what to do. When speaking with the homeowner we mentioned the issue which can happen even with well maintained fireplaces. We suggested it would not have been a deal breaker for us if we were not allowed to use the fireplace as a guest and how it could have caused smoke damage if someone didnt know what they were doing. They no longer allow operation of the fireplace. Its still beautiful! They put lovely lights inside it to provide ambience.

    I was wondering for safety, if the boat had good reflectors on all sides so a speeding passer by boater doesn't hit it.

    • @PSAdventures
      @PSAdventures  Před 2 lety +1

      I'm not sure about reflectors but you can definitely see the houseboat at any time of day or night. There are also solar lights all over it so at night it looks so nice! We saw a lot of people pass by and waved quite a few times. 🙂

    What good is a faucet if you can't drink?

    • @PSAdventures
      @PSAdventures  Před 2 lety

      I think mostly just for washing dishes or probably even boiling water. It's a little different living off the grid! I'm sure a water filter would solve that problem.

    It's too bad that they do not have boat slips to power up at night and get water.

    • @PSAdventures
      @PSAdventures  Před 10 měsíci

      There's actually a marina right next to where this boat was anchored with a lot of sailboats parked in the slips. We've seen people living on houseboats in slips before. What a cool way to live! 🤩🌊⛵

      At the time when we rented it, it was a little over $100 per night but with the new upgrades and different seasons you'll have to check the listing. It's a fun boat! Here's the Airbnb listing: airbnb.com/rooms/45737791
