This is what happens when you get complacent in the fact that you have aerial assets nearby.
Seems like they felt comfortable they werent in effective range so priorty appears to be to take cover and radio in air support. Once they heard RPGs/mortors they got on their horses a little bit
the thing im asking is where the hell was the communication when the camera man is knowing what to do first is crazy.
exactly my thoughts. He was the one saying come on guys we have to get out of here. I'm wondering if exhaustion clouded their thoughts but still that was some very shitty communication. In my platoon no matter how exhausted we were there was no shortage of ncos screaming profanities to get our asses moving.
@@TheMeanmarine13 this looks like one of the ENG sections for 1/101, so they don’t have the training an Infantry platoon would have, or the equipment- I didn’t see even 1 M240, let alone the 2 an Infantry platoon would have, and 6 SAWs- and they’re led by a CPT. I would chalk this one up to lack of experience and not knowing what to do in a modified Haichi-Shiki ambush.
The cameraman is a former us marine turned journalist so he was trained what to do in this type of situations
These don’t look like Scouts, and a 20 man platoon isn’t an Infantry Platoon- so my suspicion is that these guys aren’t Infantry. If I’m not much mistaken, the Club Suite on the helmets has an “E” in its apex, which denotes an Engineer section in the 101st. The Club is 1st Brigade, with the primary Infantry regiment being the 327th.
Great vid Ryan
Served 20 years in the Army and deployed five times to Iraq , Afghanistan and a couple other shitholes. They were receiving fire from both sides and essentially pinned down, but the fire was not accurate at all and they had some cover and no casualties. It was obvious that the taliban were at least 300 plus meters away. So it wasn't like they were in a close ambush in immediate danger taking casualties and receiving accurate direct and indirect fire and had no other choice but to move immediately. In this case and with CAS inbound a few minutes out, as a leader I'm going to hold tight for the time being and not expose an element of that size unless it was absolutely necessary for survival unless the situation drastically escalates. As for breaking contact, a small size element such as a squad is a hell of a lot easier to move than a platoon sized element in OPEN terrain . Everyone just can't get up and run, you have to bound in small groups , team sized elements in order to expose the least amount of soldiers to fire while they maneuver their way out of the area and have those not moving providing cover fire and that takes time, a lot of time for that size of a patrol. As for communication, all leaders have radios so we don't know what was said by whoever was leading the patrol. My guess is that we're told to hold tight until the birds, CAS showed up and then of course reassessed the situation and go from there.
Say it is the engineer section its the 101st Airborne and I've never met one that isnt trained and ready to get in a fight and if they're on the way back in from a patrol those taliban just got between them and a shower, hot food and a bed to sleep in. Tough way to commit self destruction
i think there were several small groups alternating moving and holding cover
The camra man is a retired marine...and it shows alot, he seems more aware and more trained than the army huys. There is a reason the marines get the reputation they have. Tbh i would have just listened and followed the cameaman because there was 0 leadership hoing on it seemed.
great vid
New sub, I've been binging. I'm a bit of a brit nerd. I love Dr.Who, keeping up appearances, the full Monty & I even flew a British flag for the cora nation
also if this was a platoon which in america is around 80 men we probably saw a small section of troops with this camera guy. it seems they were taking indirect, so i dont know
US platoons are much smaller. 30-40. Some like a mortar or TOW platoon in USMC can be 80 troops but that's because they are manning multiple crew served weapons.
I can only speak for USMC Our Infantry platoon size is 30-40 for basic 0311 platoons. Some mortar platoons can have upwards of 50-60
looks like the leadership broke down! Unfortunately
Man I was never even around combat and I am getting wound up too. This was frustrating as all get out to watch
Direction, Distance, Description
No way is that a fighting infantry!
Soldiers are always ARMY, Marines are Marines
Still soldiers by definition
@@machinpissssonu Incorrect. Troops, yes.
Look up the definition of soldiers. Marines fit that description
If we are talking semantics then they are definitely soldiers
@@machinpissssonu Not talking semantics
Ooof. Rough footage.
SAW is basically the FN MInimi adopted for US Army service. I suspect the Royal Marines used it as well.
We used a variant of it, I was actually a LMG gunner for a time
Please check out Corporal's corner. Unlike the outdoor boys, he is, more your speed,US marine.
I've bought his Hatchet. I really think you'll like his videos. And yall could do some great stuff together. Much love from Lawton Fort Sill Oklahoma keep up the great work.
Sometimes, good leadership skills are found on the battlefield and not in training. You're definitely right about them to keep moving... Being stuck on low ground is not a good idea....😊
101st, Ryan, isn’t Airborne anymore. They’re Air Assault and kind of a joke in the Airborne community today. There’s a video of an 82nd trooper getting ambushed, and he does react the way we’re taught: return fire, take cover, return accurate fire. He’s aggressive. These guys….blah.
I like Recommend The Battle of Midway 1942: Told from the Japanese Perspective (1/3) You will love it this new to your video
It's strange innit Ryan the way we think of Afghan as desert but it's all that shale rock and greenery? Hope you good mate.👍
*I was always fallin over...😁
True mate eh. Good to see you here again mate
I'm in Canadian-Military how do you feel about UK updating its UK-military equipment.
ARMY
I’d like to preface this with the blanket statement than when in shit, it’s shit. Beyond that I agree to the “patrol” spacing stated but not knowing or having not received contact does inherently lead to complacency right up until the crack. Called out as rpg and never received fire from is in my opinion that this video is a glam shot if not any POV combat video is. The suck and shit are real but a reaction to this… no.
Bro, you have no idea where exactly the gunfire is coming from based on just watching this. There might be someone off camera trying to work out where the best direction and cover to run to is at. Saying "we gotta go, we gotta go" and just aimlessly running just to run without a plan can have you end up in an even worse position. You're seeing one view looking a couple guys out of the 20 there.
🥱
It's just me or is the news reporter calling out better orders than the ncos?? Older more experienced man, Those are some very young troops just waiting to be told what to do.
The 101st is a light infantry division that is primarily air mobile via helicopter. Not an airborne infantry division.
the 101st is the 101st airborne division what are you talking about?
@@yourfavoritetoy they are mostly an air assault unit now. They don't do combat jumps anymore. They assault in in Blackhawks
Army Airborne Infantry
this is why america left all that equipment for afganistan to send to their 'friends'
You’re right. It had nothing with Joe Biden forcing them to leave that equipment. Nope. Definitely wasn’t the commander in chief. 🤡
Wow, canon fodder at its best !!
Y'all are our mother country, don't like this crap
This guy really said "is he a Marine or JUST Army?" Our Army alone is more powerful than the entirety of the UK military bud...show respect.
.....no lol.
Huh? He has more experience operating with the US military than you ever will. Show some fucking respect and go say the same thing to a marine who saw some shit and see what happens. 🤡
This sure didn't seem like no air born
