    62 years old and just took delivery of a model Y standard range about three weeks ago. Great car. Really enjoying it! Fantastic daily driver. Even did a short (~400 miles round trip) road trip and did some supercharging. The supercharging experience is excellent. You have to plan trips a little differently but it is very do-able and enjoyable. Great videos, very informative. Now feed the dog!

    I’m 61 and just bought a model Y a month ago. Previous car was a Prius. Commute around 50 miles a day and really like the Tesla. Safety, beautiful glass roof and very low cost of ownership sold me on this vehicle.

    Thanks for calling us “older people” eloquent. My son always complains that I text him paragraphs. I can’t make myself not use correct punctuation. So my two cents about the Model Y is it’s the best car I’ve ever owned. But I never owned a luxury car before, so I don’t have much to compare it to. My first EV was a 2015 Leaf so I am used to driving electric. I also find the ride in the Y is bouncy. But the acceleration off the line from a stoplight never fails to make me smile!

    Got my '21 Performance Y day after Thanksgiving. Best car I have ever owned! And I was coming out of a Porsche Macan GTS, and a 911 and a C4 911. Blows those cars out of the water. My son in law has the 3, I finally drove it and was impressed. I then test drove a Y and liked the fact that you sit up higher. I am 75 yrs. old and enjoy driving like you do.

    • @Gjeebs
      @Gjeebs  Před 3 lety +8

      Interesting to hear you came from a Macan GTS. I am a huge fan of that car but its so much more than a Y and isn't faster so what's the point? Glad you are liking your Y!

    Excellent video. I predict that you will have many more prescribers if you keep doing what you are doing.
    There are many mature subscribers that are experiencing a Tesla vicariously through your videos. I’m sure lots of older adults have a Tesla in their bucket list, but our uncertain climate spooks them when they get close to ordering one. It kind of makes sense to have one; as you get older, your car will take over the driving as you might need a brake from those long trips.👍👍

  • @larryhendren9111
    @larryhendren9111 Před 3 lety +1

    I am one of "you people" and enjoyed your video. Four years with the MX; now have a 2021 MY and love it more than the MX. At my age, there are two important features most reviews don't discuss. First is the collision avoidance warning system which has prevented my having an accident which would have been my fault. The other is the regen braking. If a car pulls out in front of you and you must brake, the regen braking is already slowing the car down before your foot moves to the brake. Although it is only a second or less, it definitely makes a big difference in the stopping distance.

    I was trying to think of something mean to say, but couldn't think of much. You mixed with the insane trade in values right now is what motivated me to buy a new Y. I ordered a white P and stuck with the black leather as my kids are heathens :) My driving pattern is 95% in town (16 mile round trip) and then that other 5% is a 3000 mile vacation so the P made sense for my situation. I am thinking of snagging some smaller lightweight rims to test range for long trips with. Keep the good content coming!

    I was 75 when I bought my M3P and decided to visit the future. I think it does help a bit if you are comfortable with technology when you buy this car as very little is familiar. If you can fiddle with your smart phone or with your computer you can fiddle with your Tesla or you can get your grandchild to help in the beginning. This car handles extremely well, and home charging at 40+ miles per hour is great. I took it on a 4000 mile road trip looking for Superchargers. Always found them and lost no time since I also ate. Great car and Navigate on Autopilot got me off the George Washington Bridge without haste. Would buy another.

    Hi, I'm 67 and have been a technophile since I bought my first computer... a Commodore 64! I've always kept up with the latest and greatest, so Tesla tech hasn't been hard for me to adapt to at all. My first Tesla was a 2016 Model S... beautiful, sleek, fast, but sadly, my wife's knees couldn't tolerate how low it was, so I traded it for a 2020 model Y performance. It's been upgraded with a yolk and is soooo amazing to drive. I do need to consider keeping a AED (defibrillator) in the car though because last time I took a non-tech peer on a drive and did a test launch, I thought there was going to be a cardiac event! I love the car, and so does my wife. I bought mine used and wasn't aware there is a second understorage behind the first one in the back. When I found it, it was full of aftermarket toys the previous owner left behind... yup... I love this car!

    Yes, please, a thorough review of the comfort coil-overs. I have an early production 2021 Y (includes laminated windows) and one of my only dislikes on the car is the ride on rougher roads. The ride, when it is not harsh can be just plain "busy". It can be tiring. The coil overs offered by Mountain Pass Performance and Unplugged Performance don't come cheap and I have yet to find any reviews that suggest there is that much of an improvement.

    Interesting video. Just a comment on the ‘non breaking’. From time to time a safe harsh breaking is necessary to remove corrosion - if not then maintenance will go up as the breaks will need replacing early. This is also a problem on front wheel drive conventional cars as the break predominantly with front breaks.

    I'm 79 and picking up my Model Y, Long Range, next week. Looking forward to FSD release to the public in the next quarter. FSD is probably not the "logical" choice but I am a techie.
    Forty-five years ago, while car-pooling my kids I thought ours would be the last generation to do carpools. Cars would drive themselves when my grandkids needed rides. I guess I was off by half a generation. My grandkids did need carpools, but there is some doubt if they will need driver's licenses. I'm looking forward to the day when cars are driven sanely, by computers.

    I’m going to give more praise to Tesla Model Y. A few days ago my husband and I did a long drive on a scenic byway into the mountains. We were on our way home both tired and hungry. Much to our dismay there was a bad accident on the interstate and they had it closed. Traffic was backed up for miles and they were diverting traffic off it. We ended up somewhere that we didn’t know at all and it was getting dark. After being stressed for a few minutes I pushed the navigate “home” button. After about 30 seconds it came up with a route that didn’t involve the interstate and gave us turn by turn directions to get home. Tesla navigation is the best I’ve ever seen!

    Picking up our new Model Y this Monday. Quite excited. Had a Chevy Bolt the last three years. Liked it but no comparison to a Tesla.

    Just another elderly (74.23 yrs) fan of Gjeebs (and Tesla.) No fear of technology here (working with computers since before you wore your first diaper) but need a little more coinage for my MY and I hope that will come this summer when I retire. Blue and white LR. I’ll honk when we pass!

    It's classic for people when they are younger to underestimate people who are years or even decades older. Similar to you, I went from a BMW (M3) to a model Y (performance) and couldn't be happier. It was fun to be able to take a clover leaf at 75mph with the M suspension, but my model Y knocks out the 0-60 much faster, not to mention all of the functionality advantages.

    I am 65 and I am thinking of purchasing a model 3 or model Y. The next Model 2, which is supposed to be a hatchback sounds interesting as my current car is a VW Golf.

    I rented Hyundai Sonnata and I was very impressed with it's lane keep and adaptive crusie control. I've drive the tesla and I'd have say it wasn't that far off it's ability to keep the lane. I'm guessing they're using similar technology and AI system.

    Hey Gjeebs, love your content. It’s very refreshing from all the other Tesla vlogs. I am a big Tesla fan without a Tesla. I couldn’t wait for the model 3 to launch and I ended by buying an Audi A4 which has been amazing these last 4 years. Now I want to buy an suv and the model y 7 seater seems to be the ideal choice. We test drove it and really loved it. The only thing about the test drive was that when I got back to my Audi A4 it was lot smoother to drive than the model y. Be it the steering or the suspension. Would a used model x be a better alternative with the air suspension? Obviously I don’t want to spend more than a 100 grand on a car right now and all the other SUVs out there are not Tesla :)

    Hi. I had been waiting for the Y to come out and then COVID hit. In March 2021, I’m 61 years old, had just started cancer treatments in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. I found out there was a brand new Tesla dealership here. Went to look at one of the existing inventory on Wednesday. Put a deposit down on a Red Multicoat, LR with FSD and 20 inch induction wheels. On Thursday I paid for it and on Friday I drove it home! Like you said, you can’t buy a Tesla when you’re dead, so might as well do it now!
