I was pretty much sold on this because of the models, but I'm completely locked in now. Great job on the video!
A better description is imagine the movie The Warriors had a love child with Judge Dredd in the 40k setting.
I remember Nick as a lowly shop assistant at Warhammer World, played my first ever game of Necromunda against him nearly 10 years ago! look at you now! Will be getting this game at some point
I was cautiously optimistic about this game, but seeing this video, I think I will give it a go.
this actually sounds really fun.
As the author of probably the largest single Necromunda supplement in existence, so quite the fanboy... I approve of the combat rule changes. As long as it still delivers a satisfying campaign experience, this is a winner.
campaign is where the game shined more then rules, dreading a lack of it
campaign seems lacking as we see ganger cards which appear to have set stats. I will get the models but skip the game.
We also see blank cards.
Watched the whole video when are the blank ganger cards? I didn't see them.
Blank cards were revealed either on the WH Community website or in a photo leak, I can't remember which.
Sounds like the game will be faithful to Necromunda, if not all the old rules are around online so either way Necromunda is back!
Looking forward to preordering my box next Saturday! Necromunda has always been my favourite GW product. It's good to see that it will be getting support.
I'm going to get this box for the mins and the book for the updated rules. Looking at the stats looks like they went back to the old Rogue Trader rules. Guess we'll see.
so excited for this release. finally!!!! Also, ratskins please!!!
I have been on the fence about committing to necromunda since it came out, having watched this video and seeing that awesome template mechanic and quickness of game play, I think I'm Guna go for it. Genestealer cult here I come!
Can't wait to get this myself.
OMFG HOW AWESOME! I played the original and this is just hitting me right in the feels!
great introduction video. all important mechanics in one video!
Just bought this game online. And the addon books. Can't wait to make some scenery and a squat gang because I want to!
Liking the look of this a lot. I was always miffed that I never managed to get into OG Necromunda before it was discontinued, I'll definitely be picking up the Gang War book too!
Great play through. Really helpfull to watch after reading the rules
"You cant unjam you aimed with your first action" - doesn't that mean his roll of 2 hit his leader then?
Having never played necrumunda before I'm definitely going to have to give this a go!
Hunt down the old one, its WAY better, this is a Freekin Board Game, they Completely destroyed Necromunda 8(
I just hope that they eventually re-release the spyrers
Without having an opinion on the game itself yet since ive only just begun watching the video, why did they make necromunda into a boardgame and Shadow war into Necromunda?
Its not a board game.
Okay just finished the video and found out that there will be rules for playing on a 3D table as well which is good.
Guess its a good thing, necromunda is such a fantastic game it deserves better then to just bring back an old and dated ruleset only to disappear within months (as shadow war did).
They've confirmed that it's release is gonna be similar to Blood Bowl, with further releases of expansions and gangs set for the future. But don't let me stop your necessitate bitching.
Read my posts again please and you might find that im not bitching...What is wrong with you?
He loves the game and hates people who don't love it like he does.
Carrying a little mike stand with you could be really useful to give you 2 hands.
Brilliant! :) I learned shadow war when it came out and loved it so this will be easy to pick up and play hopefully :D
Looks really fun and interesting. I'm sold!
I'm sold
Demo guy cheated thst autogun only neefed a 2 to hit with aiming and short range
I noticed that too
Yeah. That's what I thought :D
"It´s just like, how i remember..." No, Mister GW-Dude, nobody said that for sure.
Maybe with the additional book, we have to buy, we get back a nice Necromunda.
For a total of $155 USD as well.
There was a Twitch stream done with Andy Hoare where it was brought up that "Rule book will not be available separately and no intention to do release it separately in the future." A lot of us are hoping that a single book will be available soonish. On top of this the campaign rules in the gang war supplement has weapons missing from the exchange/armory. The only heavy weapon option in it is a rivet gun and only for the Goliaths since the Escher get no heavy weapons.
According to the legacy gang pdf on the Necromunda site "Many of the classic Citadel Miniatures Necromunda Gangers carry some pretty heavy duty and flamboyant firepower. At present, there is a very limited number of heavy weapons available in the new edition. This is deliberate, and more heavy weapons will be introduced in future supplements." So folks get ready for typical GW practices.
thanks for the video!
I am really torn between this and shadespire as to which looks more fun...
Is there overwatch in the core rules or the Gang War rulebook? It's a crucial mechanic for a shooting urban skirmish and it doesn't seem to have been mentioned here.
overwatch is now a skill available for gangers
How do you know what weapons are what?
I couldn't tell a lasgun from a bolter...
I am very optimistic about this one. Already liking it. Quicky setup and quick games very nice
Dee Mag quick (allow a week or so to assemble models. If your a bit slow like me...😎)
Hax! Weighted dice!
15:10 YOU SHOT HER HAIR!!!!
I am just wondering how a plasma pistol has better accuracy than a rifle at the same range. He was always hitting on 2 and Justin 3 or 4. Other than that seems like a quick Skirmish board game
Its not a board game.
battlemarloes9 at short ranges pistols often get large bonuses to hit but big penalties at long ranges.
Rifles often get little to no bonuses at short and get small bonuses or no modifier at long
He was cheating quite simply. The èscher model hit on a 4 normally but aim for +1 and range +1 she should have hit on a 2+ and so would have hit his leader twice that game.
7:25 Okay, let me see if I got this right. If those black parts of the board are impassable terrain (walls going to the top of the room), do they provide cover? Because if they don't then this game (or perhaps just the board itself) makes no sense. I guess it's because they want to offer 3D pieces, but in that case the layout of the board should not have walls that are not represented in the game by a 3D element.
As for the combat, it feels way too much luck-based because the heroes are so weak. One lucky hit and a character is down and all they can do is crawl around? You miss in your turn, but your opponents hits again and kills/wounds another of your models? It's probably GG after that. I guess it's good that these matches will last 5-10 minutes tops. Then we can play something more interesting.
I don't understand the wounding mechanic...
is there a campaign in the rule book?
The game I remember had territory and credits and random loot tables for campaigns, it had character advancement and unique traits etc will this still be viable?
Yep! There's a big expansion book called Gang War being released on day 1 which will have all of that stuff in, the boxed game is more of a standalone introduction to it. The gangs are also having their kits released seperately, so you can just buy the gangs, dice and book and ignore the box altogether.
So if I were completely new to any warhammer games period....should I buy this or Shadespire? I don't get why they're out at the same time competing with each other.
Shadespire is fantasy based, where as Necromunda is sci fi based, so it depends on what one of the two your interested in exploring.
BoW Justin
Its not just about the setting though. There are quite some differences between the 2 games. Personally I prefer nocromundas combat system but i also like shadespires card system. Id say the best thing you can do is to watch some playthroughs of both games
fixer10091994 N.B. this was a rather restricted demo game; the full version includes tricks and ploy cards for the gangs to use, as well as about five times as much board-space (you can see the rest stacked up in the background in some shots), not to mention scenarios and suchlike with various victory conditions.
Also, Necromunda is meant for deeper, RPG style customization and campaigns, where as Shadespire is an organized, tournament style play game.
But to get the campaign / territory system you need the Gang War expansion book.
Shadespire is generally an arena gladiatorial combat game, with a lot of cards, buffs, combos and such. If I were to point at an SF equivalent, it'd be Corvus Belli's new ARISTEIA! game, just out to preorder as well.
Necromunda is way more like small-scale skirmish single-model combat 40k with that RPG / campaign gang development layer on top. Totally different animal.
So the move is in inches instead of squares... that board is a lie....
Oh, sexy Nick!
thougth this was a video game when i first heard about it.
Vorben they are also making a video game
why should you play this instead of the original 40k ? It just seems like the same too me ...
Why does everyone say "taken out of action" instead of "killed"?
In a campaign you roll on a table for each 'out of action' model to see what happened to them - e.g. survived but has terrifying scars/bionic eye/etc etc
It's hard to tell from the video but have they increased the scale of the new models compared to the old ones? It looks like they are on the 32 mm bases but its hard to tell. Either way I'm definitely picking this up when I can.
Yes they have. As with all of their miniatures, they are larger than those from 20 years ago.
esher is on 25mm and golith is on 30mm bases.
F Pruijt yes, so far only the goliath bases have grown
Thanks guys, I missed the Eschers. Minor scale creep is understandable, I was just making sure is wasn't Rogue Trader to Primaris scale changes so I can use old terrain for a while longer without it looking completely off.
id argue the old terrain is preferable, personally id like the goliaths to feel clunky and fill up small spaces :)
WOO HOOO so excited!!
Really? i think is another game to save in a box and dont touch never after the first try.
This is a game for battles with newbies and involving them in the world of Warhammer 40000. Cool !!!
Not really. It actually, despite first appearances, has a lot more detail than Warhammer 40k.
Do gangs earn exp and develop over time, or am I forced to play how they want me to play
You are forced to play how they want you to play, with your gang earning xp and developing over time should you want it to do so.
Yup, custom gangs ftw! Just like the olden days when my Cawdor gang the Masacre Grove Missionary’s went from being underhive militant preachers to real upper hive vigilantes. Necromunda had such great Roleplay aspects to it.
The Gang War expansion let's you do all the old stuff. Don't worry. There are now 2 different ways to play.
Jsh Pk have we confirmed that on writing
Yes
www.warhammer-community.com/2017/10/28/more-exciting-news-from-spiel-oct-28gw-homepage-post-1/
and earlier posts on Community - Gang War is the book you want for campaigns and conquering terrain, developing gangs, etc.
How can they possibly give this the name of Necromunda???? Me and friends still play the original, on a 6' by 4' table with a campaign series lasting decades.... This.... This is an insult.
By all means, make a quick skirmish board game, but don't call it Necro.
Its not a board game.
I feel ya buddy. But they will release a supplement from day 1 called "Gang war" which will cover rules for the old style of play in 3d industrial terrain and including rules for running campaigns.
A bit miffed that its not just included in the starter but still glad its returning.
You didn't watch the video... The board is nothing, u measure inches, they also have rules for 3d terrain... or god forbid you buy the models and play with the old rules
Dave@prime it's included in the box, or u can buy it by itself if you don't want the board game... if you hate necromunda so much that you can't spend 10 bucks on a book then just wait for the free pdf and you better vote for bernie sanders because your a socialist
Dave@prime your right, I misread the website... Don't pretend like you have sex, we could both use the doll if you didn't pretend to be someone your not
Meh. Yet another watered down version of the original... No mention of Territory, serious injuries, experience or abilities! XD
theblackpixieJTHM, check out the website baby ;) territory is back in the multibattle campaign
And injuries. Reading some of the white dwarf, there are permanent injuries that happen immediately instead of after the game.
Ryan Gibson oh really, did white dwarf cover necromunda, I figured I'd buy next months
I agree seems they messed up the campaign. steamlined = lowest common denominator. This game is lacking the depth of the OG necromunda.
The Gang War expansion book will include rules for proper 3D terrain Necromunda as well as territory, ect.
Welll.. It's neat. I feel Shadow War usurp this . It's more spanning and less limited
If they have kept the depth of the gang development of the old Necromunda games, this will easily overshadow Shadow War.
look at the printed ganger cards this game has no campaign mode stick to SW or OG necromunda. Lucky for me I have both og rule book and outlanders so the models with be great but I won't bother with this new game only the minis.
It does not have campaign in the box, that is true, but it does have a supplement that does deal with campaign and 3d terrain which is released same day. Its a bitch that it will be an extra expense but it is there if you want it.
James Graham-Scott my wallet died long ago! Lol
They've turn Necromunda into a board game and injury dice this is worrying. I hope they just update Mordheim and they don't pull this kind of change.
gaspainsify old Necromunda injury roll: 1=flesh wound, 2-5=down, 6=out. New Necromunda injury dice: 1 flesh wound face, 4 down faces, 1 out face. On a six sided die. Yeah.
Azrael Rose stop it with the facts!
Hating on the game just because you can I guess. Injury is not different, and the game is not a board game. You can play it like a board game, but you can just as well play it like you play old Necromunda.
Need the Gang War book for 3D rules - though vets will have it easy figuring it out, because ranges and Mov are already in inches.
Here buy this $100 box that's basically a board game and if you love the old Necromunda you'll have to buy the extra book that might cost another $40-60. I hope this isn't the case but I have a feeling it will be.
One more game for Games Workshop to abandon.... Again.
I am Going to play with Old Necromunda rules, these SUCK, its GW stealing Imperial Assault/Descent/Spacehulk Board game style play, Right down to the Special Dice, I would have Liked just a Updated Minis, Hard cover rule book with few updates and maybe some new Gangs as well, those cards are nice, again like Imp Assaults Hero Cards, But I liked Necromunda because you could Level your Gangs, they Grew, you could Have campains with them, this is a &*@#^ Board Game !
Did you finish the video? Rules for the old school style of play will still be covered(thankfully) :)
Yes, It is Something you will have to Buy in Addition to this, So they can sell the terrain and Stuff you got for free before, now you will get some cardboard panels 8( ... I played necromunda a lot when young, and this to me, is Not the feel of the game, I wanted 8(
3d terrain rules are in the box... why r the fans of this game the most toxic? People like you are going to kill necromunda... at least buy the minis and play the old rules
Those rules aren't in the box. You are required to buy the gang war supplement for those rules. This has been confirmed on the Necromunda official FB page.
