I opened up for Slaughter about 10 years ago in Hershey Pa. Mark and Dana are class acts! Listened to our soundcheck, gave us GOOD sound and encouraged us to do our original material as we were prepared to do mostly covers to get the crowd going. Down to earth honest great dude!
Every interview I've seen, the first comment is always how well received and like Mark is. They always talk about how nice and accommodating he is with his fans and peers. I'd love to meet and jam with them.
@@sighermike Yeah Mark is a great dude got to see him twice in 2019 here in michigan first time was just him and bunch of dudes that lived in the state jammin with him and at the end i waitied til the front of stage cleared and went to Mark for a guitar pick and he was so cool about it and shook my hand told me thanks for coming out. Then saw him a couple months later with the slaughter band. Unfortunately Dana and Jeff werent there they had a gig with vince neil but Blas was there so I was hyped to see it still. Met Mark after the show and he remembered me from the front of the crowd cuz during Wild Life I was the only one who knew the lyrics so i was singing along and he held the mic up to me. Also met Blas to he was cool as hell. Its cool to see a band where the members are still cool with each other but most importantly down to earth with the fans. They should really do new music but i get why they don't really.
What band are you in?
This account doesn't surprise me. Mark and Dana are awesome people. Very loving and generous. I use to see Bobby at certain anonymous meetings here in the Houston area. He was so down to Earth and friendly. He'd talk about eating healthy, drinking good coffee, and pounding the shit out of his drums. Yeah, those guy's are wonderful people.☺👍
When I met all of them Blas and Mark were cool,Blando was alright and Dana was slightly arrogant.
But Mark did something that made me gain a lot of respect for him.
I was standing there waiting to meet Mark when I felt something hit my ankle.. I looked back and it was this girl in a wheelchair, I tapped on Mark’s bodyguards shoulder and got his attention.
He then whispered in Marks ear and Mark turned around and went to the girl and gave her attention and ignored everyone else … From that point on he has always been my most respected Rocker.. Class act! As far as Blas … he will just sit there and talk to you for forever like he has known you his whole life.
Two guitar players that I would like to see make a comeback are Vito Bratta and Chris DeGarmo.
I've read that Vito has problems with his hands. Degarmo probably makes more money as a pilot than he would in music
Vitto yeah
@@emt5330 I have read that DeGarmo still writes and records but it is more for himself and no drama. I would love to hear him put out some old school Queensryche sounding material. :-)
@@gneric85 really? Does he release it, or just do it just to do it?
I would love to see Chris DeGarmo back with Queensryche. When he left, so did the soul of the band. And now with Todd LaTorre, they would be killer.
Mark Slaughter sounds like a smart, straight up guy.
Right?! I've never actually listened to this guy do an interview before. Huge with Slaughter back in the early 90's and then not sure what. I do know I saw a video of him singing live within the past 10 years or so and it was god awful. But hopefully that's been sorted out and he's doing gigs and making good money. Sure sounds like he's got his head on straight and isn't living in a dream world. Best of luck to him.
@@Redhotlugnut judging videos is totally different after seeing a Slaughter show a couple years ago Mark was killing it live. For being in his 50s and hes still hitting the high notes I give him props
How fucked up it is that this was uploaded to CZcams on the 22nd anniversary of Tim Kelly's death.
Mark is awesome.
Vv is an extremely intelligent and artistic musician. Uncompromising artistic integrity and dedication to the craft. Unfortunately this causes many clashes with less visionary bandmates
Huge Mark Slaughter fan. What a talented vocalist and guitar player.
Talkin bout Up all Night, Sleep all Day?
Fly to the Angels is one of my top favorite songs ever!
Absolutely agree and I’m going to see them in July so excited
I always liked Slaughter, met him once and was a straight up shooter and a damn nice guy. Respect
A friend was Tim Kelly (the guitarist) Slaughter guitar tech, of course Tim was eventually killed in a car accident in AZ
Yeah but he isn't straight. He is bi. He did a lot of sexual stuff with other guys in the 80s.
This guy looks like a woman .he has makeup on like a wan ,why
Mark has made good points in this video. Thumbs up for Mark 👍
Mark came out with a better band (Slaughter) and did more then Vinnie has done. Mark is a straight up guy.
The Vinnie Vincent Transition.
Bwahahahaha
Fucking funny
THAT'S rock'n'roll baby!
Seat Stitcher brilliant 😂
LOL.
Mark hit the nail on head. It's the music that we loved and takes us back!
He's so right about that. I believed one of the things that killed rock music popularity was the 40 minutes guitar solos. It was the same thing when rock were declining back in the mid to late 70's. The reason why it gained popularity again in the early 80's. Unlike other bands from that time, Van Halen were making party music, but that ship had sailed by the end of the decade because most every rock band was doing 40 minutes guitar solos by making themselves a carbon copy of EVH and Eruption. There's a lot of great rock musicians today that could bring the genre back up again. The issue nowadays is that if you're picking up an electric guitar, people want to expect you to play like EVH, and the guitarists fell for it. That seems to be the case.
I like Mark Slaughter more and more. Saw him for the first time last year on a cruise and I really enjoyed his onstage presence. Seems like a really cool person.
Janet from Threes Company let herself go.
Vinnie would make Jack Tripper a straight guy 😄😄😄😄
Oh jack

Paul as Mr Furley. Shannon and Gene as The Ropers!
Hilarious !!! LOL
Mark is a CRAZY GOOD guitar player, which most people don’t know. And, of course, a stellar singer, writer… and PERSON. He is (along with Dana Strum) as “real” as it gets. Wonderful people who always put the fans first.
He's definitely in the top 💯 of all time. I seen him play up close at Mohegan Sun awhile back.
I wouldn't buy anything Vinnie vincent.
Mark, is not a stellar singer lol
And what's also crazy is bullet boys marq torien auditioned for ozzy...ha...
@@shernigz Most people would disagree.
Mark has a huge voice any rock band should be happy with a singer that good
For sure, if you hear Mark in his prime, he had a huge vocal range and a great voice.
Sorry but mark sounds generic,
there were tons of 80s hair metal singers who sound identical, all this " HE'S UNDERRATED" is nonsense ,

I got backstage passes while working at Tower Records for the VVI/Iron Maiden show. Course we were there to see Iron Maiden. I remember talking with Mark, he was such a sweet, friendly, nice guy and Vinnie sulked in the corner. I remember running into Bruce Dickinson and had a lovely conversation with him. Never spoke with Vinnie once. Thankfully, I still have a great pic of me & Mark.
My very first concert was VVI/Iron Maiden in 87
I was at that show, Reunion Arena Dallas. Iron Maiden 7SOA7S tour & Vinnie opened the show comes out with hot pink feathers in his hair a fluffy pink thing wrapped around his neck even half of his Jackson double VV guitar was pink. I was a huge fan, saw him in Kiss as well but I was kind of over it at that point. They weren’t worthy to open for the Maiden ~ no way. Would have rather seen Accept or Saxon at that show ~ especially Accept.
I saw VVI, Iron Maiden in Tulsa Jan 87. That was a great show! Used to have a Hot pink Vinnie Vincent guitar pick from the show. Have no idea what happened to it?
Vinnie thought he was bigger than he was
What maiden tour was that?
Driver would have been a great band if it ever got anywhere. Mark Slaughter is one of the most down to earth straight shooting no BS guys in Rock.
didnt that become M.A.R.S. with Rob Rock on vocals?
Wasn't.Rudy Sarzo and Tony McAlpine in Driver??? I think I'm right about Sarzo but I don't know about McAlpine.
And if they had a better label. We all know MV doesn't promote much at all.
@@rongohring3029Definitely Tony Macalpine.
@@shredguitarobYes. The album was called Project Driver.
Never tell the audience that the song you are about to play is a new one! If the new song is good, they'll just think it's a deep cut.
I had no idea my Aunt Connie played the guitar, but, listening to this interview and I look up and there she is!
Thank you! Well said. I saw the same thing. Ma'am, we're trying to photograph Vinnie Vincent. Please stop photo bombing!
Vinny Vincent now looks like a cross between Laverne and Shirley smashed together. LOL

I think that's his issue. I saw an interview where he wouldn't confirm or deny. He's gained weight so maybe female hormones?🤷♀️

In the 80s I was looking for some heavy guitar material and I saw VVI Boys R Gonna Rock on MTV so I bought the cassette tape and didn’t realize until years later that Mark was the lead singer of VVI. Not sure what’s going with Vinnie look but at first glance he looks like Joyce Dewitt from Threes Company.
IMO Vinnie Vincent Invasion: All Systems go is one of the best commercial metal albums of the era. Mark Slaughter's voice really made that album worthwhile. I know Paul and Gene tell the media about what a dodgy guy he was. Howdy, I think he had a big hand in helping them get their heavy edge back. Creatures of the Night is an amazing album, so he did a big portion of the guitar work behind the scenes. Lick It Up is a straight ahead 80s heavy metal record as far as I'm concerned. Personality flaws, and inconsistency aside, he's a phenomenal guitar player.
Yeah, but for all.his talent his career didn't amount to much. 18 months in Kiss, and 2 albums by a band thats remembered more for the fact that their lead singer became famous in another band. He's spent the last 30 years milking that for all it's worth
That is high on my wish list, just not gonna pay discog prices for it.
Creatures of the night is nothing special. Just album.
Unholy is a badass riff
@@Video37656 It is a kick ass album.
Vinnie looks like Flo from the Progressive commercials after a bender.
That was outstanding!🤣
More like vinnie wishes he had a flo

Harsh... but accurate 😝
A 10 year bender! 😂
Anyone who is not happy with Mark's singing need's to have their ears check. He's one of the best voices that has ever been.
Mark had the last laugh. the whole band left vinnie and had more success than VVI ever had. vinnie never did another thing again.
Saw Slaughter in Ft. Worth a few weeks ago...still kickin it. Respect.
This whole return of Vinny Vincent nonsense has the makings for a great Spinal Tap sequel.
Spinal Tap would blow VV off the stage
Who cares about Vinny Vincent? Eddie the twit does it seems!
The boys are going to rock was great, back on the street was fantastic .Good times!
This whole Vinnie saga is rather saddening, because the two VVI albums are fucking badass. I remember my reaction upon hearing Boyz are Gonna Rock for the first time, and I still listen to those albums today. It's tough to watch your heroes fall.
Especially when they go from looking like Vinny, to Vivian.
@@trendmassacre8423 LOL!!!!!!!!
Vinnie always looked like Vivian.
Him looking like a woman isn’t really a new thing.
Vinnie was a great song writer and really good guitar player. I still listen to his VVI cds and honestly he saved Gene and Paul from themselves with the songs he wrote for Creatures, Lick it Up and Revenge. But the truth is, he is a terrible person when it comes to dealing with people and business. His legacy will be one of bitterness and ripping off his own fans.
100%✔
Gene made it quite clear that he would never again share a stage with Vinnie Vincent. Gene & Paul also made it clear that Vincent is not a team player. He's spiteful & ultimately self-consumed & flat out weird.
Gene & Paul hold quite a bit more merit than that transsexual wannabe solo artist, Vinnie Vincent, who flat out cancels prearranged appearances once the stadium has filled.
That's the impression that I have consistently understood of this freak. And that's why he'll never play with KISS again.
The thing about Vinnie is, he was hard to deal with anybody whether he was with Kiss or not. He was the best song writer that Kiss ever had throughout their existence. He helped Kiss update their music and still kept the classic sound. If you listen to albums like Creatures of the Night, Lick it up, and Revenge. They still hold up today just as much as any other Kiss albums from the 70's compared to their later 80's stuff Animalize, Asylum, and Crazy Nights. If Vinnie wouldn't have acted like an ass towards their fans and the band members. The band would have made a bigger impression throughout the 80's.
Love me some Mark Slaughter 🎤🎙️🤘
Mark, I’ve owned Vinnie’s debut ‘86 album since that year & i adamant there is nothing wrong with either yours or Vincenzo’s virtuoso performance,.. it’s f’n awesome even to this day! Pity we never had a 5th member on rhythm guitar,..,
I still have that LP since 1986. One of the most powerful rock albums of the related genre.
Vinnie always looked femme to me. Before Kiss, during Kiss, and after Kiss. Don't know why everyone is so shocked.
Because in the 80s that was the style and it's not the style anymore.
Look at his body he's clearly taking female hormones
People are shocked because he looks like he is transitioning-that's a big difference.
It's still working for Robert Smith of the cure & Alice Cooper. Seems a shame that a guy with his obvious talent for whatever reason didn't capitalize on it.
his ability is not questioned neither is his songwriting, but I NEVER thought he looked right for KISS.
I met Mark at NAMM in Anaheim back in 1996! Super nice cool dude! He gave me a signed 8×10 and I still have it!!
A friend of mine flew down to sing for Vinnie and ended up quitting cause he didn’t want to shred his voice singing as high as vinnie wanted. His name is Ron. He was in a band with mike Vanderhule who is now the drummer for Y&T. The Bay Area has produced some great musicians
Thanks for sharing that. I like reading stuff like this. Take care.
I've never been a big Slaughter fan but I do love Mark, Dana, and Bobby as musicians. Good guys with big hearts. May God bless them and their families. 💜🙏☺👍

They put the melodic in metal and the cock in rock.
Meh.
They suck. After hearing what he accomplished in KISS. I was so excited to hear VVI. Gid what a fucking let down
I mostly like the first
2:20. Slight correction; the band was called M.A.R.S. MacAlpine, Aldridge, Rock and Sarzo. The album was called Project Driver and it was fantastic.

I love his comment. “ it’s not a talent show, it’s about the songs “. True.
But 90's bands took that statement TOO far!!
Sorry to hear that Vinnie has a problem with Mark because I always thought Mark was great for Vinnie's band and Slaughter was awesome to listen to.
I don't really care what Vinnie thinks to be honest. The only reason anyone even knew who he was in the first place. Is because of his short time in
Kiss. He messes that up. Spends years Blaming Kiss, or anyone but himself. Yeah i don't care about Vinnie Vincent. I only ever got into V.V.I in the early 90s.
Because of Mark & Dana. And I always felt sorry for them. Realizing they had to put up with Vinnie & his ego for what, 2 years??
I liked Robert more on the first VVI album
@@gregsretromusicchannel7000 Slaughter had to put up with Vinnie for about 2 years I would say but Dana was with Vinnie for longer, maybe 5 years.

My grandfather always said the most talented musicians he ever worked with for the most screwed up people he ever met 🤷🏻♀️
I knew a guy named Lonnie Mack who was as talented as anyone in the business, great singer ,superb player. He was the most talented guy I ever knew and the most down to earth, normal guy you could imagine. "It's the songs. "
Exactly. You wouldn't believe how many musicians can't get that through their heads.
I still love this guy. He is so smart and articulate. ❤ #Markslaughter
Funny to hear that Vinnie never liked Mark. Years ago I read that Vinnie had received an anonymous tape of Mark's and loved the voice so much that he spent thousands of dollars trying to track the singer down, and got a singer who matched Mark's voice as closely as possible for the first VVI album. Then by the second album he had found the anonymous singer, Mark, and didn't want him by then? Very weird indeed.
That "anonymous singer" story is a bullshit made by the record company.
Mark Slaughter knows his stuff and he lived it all because he is sounds like he knows what's he's doing right now and I'm still a die hard fan of his music for a long time since I started listening to him
Well, Vinnie can be as weird in obscurity as he want's. All l need is Creatures of the Night & Lick lt Up albums and im happy.
Both terrific and maybe that's enough...
Two of the heaviest albums they ever put out. Love those songs.
Vinnie probably couldn't write a song right now if he wanted to.
Add the two Invasion albums as well
@@Jimmyjohnson1985 According to Paul, Vinnie's problem as a songwriter is he doesn't know how to self-edit, to separate the good stuff from the bad.
WHAT !! There was A Broad in KISS ? I had no Idea ...
I watched a few full KISS video's with Vinnie playing guitar, and he gets a lot of compliments from KISS fans. Vininie is an amazing guitar player, but he seems to have a lot of baggage....
Worked with mark at Vesely Music on charleston blvd in las vegas. His local band X-cursion was real good and he was hands down the best singer in vegas at that time (late 70's early 80's).
I had that Vinnie Vincet Invasion tee lol! I somehow forgot or did not know Mark Slaughter was the singer. I gotta say I love hearing just down to earth hardworking musicians and songwriters.
Love Mark Slaughter dude has a set of pipes. Love all your music when's the next album?
Mark HAD a set of pipes.
I have to say l was always on Vinnies side in the Vinnie/KISS feud. But Vinnie really blew his chance and showed that Paul Stanley's past comments about VV seems to be totally accurate after Vinnies implosion. But l will always be a major Vinnie fan because of Creatures of the Night & Lick It Up. Two of my Top 5 favorite Kiss albums.
I agree with with the guy that commented that Mark has a great voice....maybe the best in the business. I saw Slaughter recently and Mark went into the crowd while he continued to sing and even signed some girl's album right next to me. Now how many guys would do that? Just plain humble guy that Mark Slaughter. I was a little disappointed that they didn't play antthing off Fear No Evil though...but the show stll rocked!
The songs on your guys's last album were on spot on still one of my favorite albums, maybe marks just been jaded by Vinny
I believe all artists bring something great to every band they work with. I welcome it with open arms. I love the creative process. Being a recording artist myself. The show must go on just like pink Floyd says.
Depends on what your meaning of “rip off your fans” means.
Mark talks about the 40 minute solos! I was at the Baltimore Civic Center watching KISS & Vinnie in make-up. He went into his solo & just kept playing! All of a sudden Paul & Gene come out & start playing! After the song I watched Vinnie go up to Paul & say something. Recently, I saw an interview with Paul & he mentioned that incident. He said Vinnie was pissed & thought to himself if Vinnie raises his hand, I'll knock him out! While Vinnie was playing his solo, I kept thinking, is he ever going to stop! Mark just brought it all back!
I used to love going to that place for concerts now I wouldn’t wanna even cross city lines
This was a great interview. I always liked Slaughter. I thought they had some deeper songs than many of their peers at the time, and the talent in the vocals was off the charts. Up All Night was a great party song, but then to follow that up with something like Fly To The Angels was brilliant. I still think Fly To The Angels was one of the best songs of that era.
I never really thought of them as a hair band. Just a good rock band.

I'll never understand the fascination with VV as a lead guitarist- he was one of the sloppiest out there, especially for the time- just look up his instructional video on youtube. As a songwriter he was good for the time however.
You think that probably because you only heard his VVI stuff and not pre kiss work and VVI work. He was a phenomenal guitarist.

Mark is right on about Vinnie. Vinnie's solos in VVI were a bit much. Just a million miles an hour but didn't really go anywhere and sometimes took away from the song itself in my opinion. I like Lick it Up and I like Slaughter's debut better overall than VVI. VVI had a couple of really good songs, yet the leads could have been better. I think Vinnie was trying to compete with Metallica and Megadeth's type of playing, but it just didn't work for him.
He tried to be a Malmsteen, and he sucked brutally at it. Amazing he got that sad garbage signed.

What's the point of playing music if you can't express your creativity. I'd hate to be in a cover band
@@lrn_news9171 No kidding. I've been in a couple bands where some jackwagon decided we should play the covers they thought crowds wanted to hear - because they thought we'd make more money. I told them to go fuck themselves and just become DJs.

Regarding rockers who stepped away for 15-20 years I think also of Aldo Nova. He has re-emerged with enthusiasm, new music, some great in-studio performances of classics, and is committed, but had gone off radar and done songwriting for others for quite a while.
I love Mark's vocals in VVI!! Wierd to hear him say Vinnie didn't like him as the singer. All Systems Go remains as one of my favorite albums of all time. Too bad Vinnie is so eccentric now.
He should do a cover of the scorpions 'he's a woman she's a man'.
Yikes!
OMG!! I laughed so hard i cried and my husband asked me what was wrong😅😅😅
Dude looks like a lady
I feel The Best Songs By Kiss Without Ace Are Vinnie VIncent Tunes. Young And Wasted, Not For The Innocent, and Unholy. Killer, I Love It Loud. Lick It Up, and All Hell's Breaking Loose.
When will we get a Vinnie Vincent/ Yoko Ono collaboration?
Mark was a guitar teacher in Las Vegas in the 80’s.
Sad that Vinnie still has fans who want to give him money, but he can't pull himself together enough to profit from that demand. He just needs to be honest with them, offer them either his time or some kind of music/merch.
Instead he sells shit for thousands and thousands of dollars on his website. I wonder if anyone actually buys his stuff?
I used to hang out at Mean Mr. Mustard's, it was on the Ohio State University Campus in the 80's. LOL
Been there. Lived above a goth club on High St in 1990 to be near my gal who went to Ohio State. I migrated back to Myrtle Beach, though. Too damn cold in Ohio.
The song 'That time of year' is an absolute banger
Cool
"Twisted" was a great song.
Animal!
Say what you will, but VV resurrected KISS. They were on life support and the songs he wrote brought them back.
I can only think of one song he cowrote that got airplay..he not only didn't save kiss he damn nearly destroyed the band...he could not perform live...he just noodles what he wanted...that's one of the reasons he got fired
Got Mark St John? (from ANIMALIZE) 😏 RIP....
Ill play guitar with Vinnie Vincent. Music must live
I was a hardcore Metal fan (judas priest, iron maiden etc) during the 80s, even so i liked slaughter, they had a couple of really great songs that did well, just loved the hair bands :)
