I have both reels and I agree with you’re assessment on both. Biggest draw back on both is the finish on the zillion and the handle on the bantam (hg model). Biggest strengths Zillion is so easy to use even when you make a mistake and throw a stupid cast. Bantam casts a mile, smooth as silk and feels like it’ll last over a decade. I think the zillion is a little more fun to use and is more versatile and the bantam is the best reel for moving baits and covering water.

Really enjoyed your video...I was a Daiwa user for about 10 years when the tatula first came out and I absolutely loved the tatula(I find it the workhorse of the Daiwa line up, felt more durable). I tried the zillion and I loved how light it was(I am getting older and finding even an ounce lighter makes a difference). My first baitcaster ever was a Shimano coriolis, and the citica. I decided to go back to Shimano and purchased the new bantam, while quite a bit heavier I feel like I exert less effort to cast. I definitely agree that it's a lot easier to set up for the Daiwa..but once I got the Shimano dialed in I feel it is a lot easier to cast. I will use these two bantams I got for awhile to see how I like it..and then. maybe upgrade one of my bantams to a Metanium. Great video!!

Great vid! Thought I should add a couple points to each reel. T Wing on zillion is a pain if you fish braid to leader. One piece construction of Bantam makes it perfect for heavy baits that displace a lot of water (deeper cranks and larger swimbaits), however, it may be a little over kill for standard techniques.
Love these reels because to me they don't necessarily compete as they excel in different roles. Draw all day long

I fish exclusively braid to leader. I'm an inshore fisherman on the Texas coast. We tie leader that are 2 to 4 feet in length. The knot never gets close to the reel. How long of a leader are you tying?

    • @Joelflowers513
      @Joelflowers513 Před rokem +2

@@ETuss713 think the most i can get away with is like 5-6 feet. Which can definitely be enough leader depending on technique and water clarity. Other thing to consider with shorter leader is having to re-tie connection knots more often.
I fish up north/ Great lakes. Water here can have 30+ feet of vis. sometimes. I just don't have confidence with shorter leaders in those situations.

I noticed a huge difference regarding my pike bites (I fish in Germany, no SMB, no LMB) in correlation to leader length (some of my lakes are gin clear). I use leader length up to 12 feet in such clear water. Maybe consider to use thinner lines (open water, no cover) and the TWS will work. If the knot stays thin I do not have any problem at all.

I own both as well and I have to say I agree with you. For that style of fishing, the bantam just feels superior. Reeling under heavy load, the bantam is the absolute best. Its buttery smooth, it's a torque monster, and cast a country mile. I could never pay more than 300 dollars for any diawa. Shimano has dc brakes so it's worth the extra coin when you get into the metanium dc and tge antares dc. The 2021 antares dc will out cast any reel on the market and by a considerable margin. I know this cause ive got most every high-end reel and I've tested them all. But the bantam is even smoother than my antares

I was concerned about the side plate dial adjustment and removing the side plate to adjust the brakes after watching this video. After using it, I found it to be very easy and a non-issue. It cast a country mile! Buttery smooth and rock solid feel. It balances my nrx+ 893c jwr, 877 crr, and 903c mbr nicely as well. For those who are concerned about the dial and brake adjustment, I wouldn't worry too much about that. I actually like how it locks up solid. The reel performs better than what I hoped for, and more will be added soon!

These reels are both so good that I think it comes down to your “gear philosophy” as an angler. If you want a reel that you can put to work for you, lighten the load of fishing and make life as easy as possible, you go with the Daiwa. Then there’s the other type of gear guy like me. Back in the 90s, I learned how to cast on a beat up abu ambassador that was missing its spool tension knob…I had no idea that “brakes” even existed when I was a kid. Consequently, I like a lively reel that lets me get the most out of my thumb…so I’m mostly on shimanos. It just depends on the type of gear your neurons got used to when you were learning.

It's interesting. I prefer lively and airy reels as well, but I gravitate the most toward's Daiwa's brakes. On the Zillion, I run it on setting 2 and use a lot of thumb to feather my cast and it definitely casts way better than my Bantam. I like the Bantam. and it casts nicely. The Zillion is just a bit more effortless. Same with my Daiwa Alphas CT SV compared to my buddy's Aldebaran. Maybe we're throwing really different baits for such a different result?

If Shimano micro gears weren't going buzzy so quickly, i'd say that the Bantam is better for high resistance technics like deep cranking, but because their gears are complete trash, i honestly see no reason to ever use it over a Zillion or a Steez A. Shimano needs to leave that gimmick of micro gears and create large gear teeth like what the zillion has cuz at this point they don't even have the smoothness advantage Shimano used to have.

Never used any other brand of reel, until this year when I tried to learn how to skip with my Metanium DC’s. After a few blow ups, I decided my skill level (Or lack thereof) required me to have a braking system with more adjustability. Enter the Tatula SV TW 103 (2017 version, not the newer lighter one). I was blown away and skipping consistently in less than a half hour, gradually working the brakes down to around 10-11. Since then I’ve been eyeing the Zillion SV TW as my next reel. Don’t get me wrong, I still love my Shimano’s. I’m just more willing to broaden my horizons. At the end of the day, it’s about what gear is going to give me the most enjoyable fishing experience in a given situation or technique (and hopefully catch more fish).

I have 4 Zillion SV's and 1 Metanium. I honestly thought the Metanium would be a Great reel, I picked it up even though all my reels are Daiwa because I figured ya can't go wrong with the Met. . I was so wrong, I do not enjoy fishing it at all. I have them each on the same model rod and I use them for spinnerbaits, one for me and one for my wife. When she isn't in the boat I always use her setup. Just cannot get it dialed in and it does not feel nearly as refined as the Zillion. I'm not a newbie and I do know what I'm doing... I'll be picking up another Zillion to replace it and maybe just stick it on a spare rod somewhere.

Looking Back to the early 1970's you were lucky if your reel had a 4:1 hear ratio. These reels came.with tiny reel handles. This was done so you could crank faster. Shimano may still think like this.
As far as your reel assessments I agree on.all points. I also have both. In the last 5 years my reel purchases have been 3 to 1 Shimano to Daiwa. In general I think Shimano's are built stronger and Daiwa's are made lighter. I also think Daiwa uses more.parts in their reels. It's not a plus or minus just an observation. Thanks

    Hi there,
I heard the Zillion was more fitted for 1/2oz lures and under… The Zillion had everything i want but most of my fishing will be with 1/2 to 1oz lures like spinnerbait, chatterbait, topwater, small/medium swimbaits… I was wondering how was your personnal experience throwing this range of lures with the Zillion SV? Is the Zillion SV HD more fitted in your opinion?
    Cheers!

I think the Zillion excels at applications like casting jigs and all the way down to finesse applications, but I do not think it is sturdy enough or has the torque/power to hold up to frogging or punching with long term.
I think the Bantam excels at that heavy stuff, but is not something I want to throw jerkbaits or light shakeyheads on
