    Just beautiful. I raise orchids (Vanda and cattleyas most,y, a few Phalaenopsis and use to do cymbidiums). The traditional cymbidiums get really big, take up lots of space and require cooling to bloom. HOWEVER, in the last few years they have come up with some smaller ones that are warmth tolerant and will bloom without the chilling that’s hard to get in more tropical area. Being smaller helps too. I had been thinking of sending you some pics to paint but you got it.
    Again, gorgeous. Thanks for sharing.

    May I ask if there’s a difference if you wet a paper in sections vs paint water on the entire petal and ad some clean water on the section that started to dry.
    Thank you.

    • @LouiseDeMasi
      @LouiseDeMasi  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes you can do that- absolutely. Always be careful not to put too much water near the area you just painted because you will create blooms where you don't want them.

    Louise, at what point do you erase your pencil lines. I find that if I don’t do that right away I won’t be able to. And I don’t see any on yours at the end. 🌴Tallahassee Florida 🌴

    • @LouiseDeMasi
      @LouiseDeMasi  Před 2 lety +1

      They are still there. If I look closely I can see some. I sometimes give the outer edges a rub over with the eraser after the first wash goes on. That will remove any areas that aren't covered in paint and because there is only a light wash on the paper I can usually minimise the lines that are under the paint. I can still see them faintly but they aren't as noticeable.

    Thank you for your wonderful videos. Your step by step instructions are such a help. Im about to try watercolours and have been watching so many videos to try to learn about this technique and finally I have found YOU. Im wondering if you have any tutorials for complete beginners, starting from the beginning and taking through all the different things that there are to know about ?. Ive been watching mostly people from U.S. and as Im in Australia, I cant figure out what type of brushes I should buy ?. What would you recommend ?. Im working my way through your videos and I love your style of painting, so I would like to follow along with you but I need to start from the very beginning I think. Also wondering if you teach person to person (depending upon where you are of course :-) ). Thank you very much Louise. I'm filled with admiration for you. !!!!!

    • @LouiseDeMasi
      @LouiseDeMasi  Před 2 lety

      Thanks so much Lindy. I have a few beginner tutorials on Patreon but they are about painting a particular subject. I walk you step by step through the painting. Also on Patreon I post written posts about supplies I use etc. I mainly use round brushes but I prefer them to have a fine point. Some round brushes are cut with a blunt edge. There are brushes specifically designed for watercolour painting. I use sable brushes which are expensive but I used synthetic brushes when I first started. Many watercolour painters like the Silver Black Velvet watercolour brushes, some like Princeton watercolour brushes. Rosemary and Co have a good selection of watercolour brushes. I don't teach face to face I'm sorry because I'm too busy with my online classes.

      @LouiseDeMasi  Před 2 lety +1

      You can't get it anymore Monique. I have a stash here at home that I'm using up. Daler Rowney make a similar product called Langton Prestige board.

    • @bluewren65
      @bluewren65 Před 2 lety +1

      @@LouiseDeMasi Does it perform similarly to the Arches?
      Edit: I just went and had a look and it seems the Langton Prestige is a cotton rag/cellulose mix, so I doubt it would perform like the Arches. Shame that Arches are not making it anymore. Was it super expensive? Is that why they discontinued it?

    • @LouiseDeMasi
      @LouiseDeMasi  Před 2 lety +1

      @@bluewren65 It was fairly expensive. I'm not sure why they discontinued it. The Langton board is good to use (not as good as Arches). I painted a budgerigar on it. The colours are beautiful. I found that it doesn't hold onto the paint as well as Arches. When I went to rework an area I didn't like - it wasn't as accommodating as Arches paper is. The paint lifted and I got in a bit of a mess but I was able to correct it eventually. It takes time to get used to a new paper so that could have been what the problem was for me.

    • @bluewren65
      @bluewren65 Před 2 lety

      @@LouiseDeMasi I find that cellulose content in a paper tends to do that. Great if working in gouache and you want to use a lot of reductive techniques, but could be frustrating in watercolour.
