It was a privilege to finally visit this magical place. No visit to Norway should be complete without visiting the magical Borgund Stave Church :)

This is one of the buildings still around hundreds of years before Beethoven, Mozart, most cathedral churches standing now, hundreds of years before Joan Of Arc was born, before the Magna Carta was signed, before Marco Polo began to explore the world, before the Renaissance period began in Italy, hundreds of years before Christopher Columbus came to America, before the Inca Empire was formed in Peru, before Michael Angelo painted a church, before Magellan went around the world, about 500 years before Shakespeare was born, hundreds of years before the first stone was put to build the Taj Mahal, over 500 years before Newton's theory of gravity, over 600 years before Bach writes his first baroque song, almost 800 years before Darwin's origin of species, and over 600 years before the United States Declaration Of Independence was signed. In other words, this Norway Stave Church has stood the test of time !!

some features of this architecture look like East Asian Buddhist architecture. When I first saw it, it was like a combination of Asian and European architecture.

No, the church that was burnt down in 1992 was Fantoft Stave church. There is currently a replica of it that you can visit in Bergen

If this church is to be considered a Christian Church, why did they adorn it with dragon heads, when we, that are Christians, know and understand that a dragon represents Satan? Why would they do that? I do not understand.
The rise of literature in Christendom was built on humankind's curiousity of something "other" than themselves. Old classics from antiquity (The Odyssey, Metamorphoses, Aeneid, etc) were copied, translated, interpreted, commented and compiled by the medieval authors of the clergy and the university. Clearly, this was founded in didacticism as well as a search for entertainment. Histories, biographies and legends were also written to establish sense of what the past of a nation belonged to, often digging past the conversion of that nation. This is also found in art, as we see here. You're absolutely right, in Christianity at that time, the 'dragon' represented Satan himself, and all knew this, especially the parish priest of this church who likely saw these motives several times per week. But to them, this motive could also be the dragon of their proud heathen past. You see, the elite of medieval Norway wasn't ashamed of their past as they couldn't blame their ancestors from living so far away from the spread of Christianity ... In fact they established the idea of the "noble heathen", a person of high ranking, often a king, who isn't a converted Christian, but that possesses great Christian values anyway. Norwegians, and especially icelanders, were so fascinated about Norse religion they probably knew more about it than the pagans of the time. And finally, look how beautiful and unique this is. They certainly had their love for great woodwork.... However, we can't really tell whether the iconography behind dragon depitcions is heathen or Christian, or both. Although it must be stated that it was quite normal to depict grotesque images in the Romansque architecture. A dragon could symbolize the fight against evil, or or it could protect the people inside. I must say I grew a little unsure when I wrote this reply to you haha, I really ought to read new articles about it. But yeah, this is my take on it

Not very likely, but it is a possibility.... Nearly all the wooden churches from this period, except the Norwegian, has vanished so we really don't know anything. Stave churches are likely not purely a Scandinavian invention any how. Don't take this from me, this is what the leading experts of archeology say. For the linguistical part..... no, there are very little old norse words of eastern European origin. However, there are hundreds of Russian words of Scandinavian origin. Remember, Russia is the outmost periphery of Europe, it takes centuries before ideas reach there.
