- Today I show you how to edit and customize your purchased LC book PDF templates in Affinity Publisher.
Affinity Publisher is a professional level desktop publishing software ideal for creating your LC book cover and interior files. In fact, Affinity Publisher has most of the features you'd get by purchasing InDesign-the desktop publishing industry standard-at a fraction of the cost.
But, Affinity Publisher won't just help you create professional-looking cover and interior files; it will also help you edit and customize PDF templates that you purchase elsewhere.
Customizing purchased templates is something you’ll definitely want to do in order to:
-Differentiate yourself from others using the same templates
-Target specific sub-niches, either by adding components like text or images to the template that might resonate with a particular audience, or by customizing fonts or other design elements to create a different look and feel that resonates with a particular audience.
Happy customizing!

What are you currently using to customize your purchased PDF templates? And where did you buy them from? Let me know in the comments!
Friendly correction at minute 17:52 - when exporting choose All Pages NOT All Spreads or KDP Preview will not recognize the right-hand pages and show only half the document. Found this remedy in the Affinity Forum which made all the difference in my decision to keep my brand new Affinity Publisher. At least this applies to lined journals. Thank you, Rachel, for all the wealth of info - this is all mighty exciting!
Oh my gosh, Phyllis, that was a big mistake on my part! Geez! You're absolutely right about that. I'll have to make an update; thanks for catching that!
Thank you for sharing this wealth of information. You're a star!! 🌟
I'm using Affinity as well, so I watched this video as soon as I got home. I'm LOVING this Affinity series, It's just AWESOME. Thank you🙃
Thanks so much; so glad you're finding them useful!
Like A Pro! Thanks Rachel 👍
Thank you!
This is great. How could you add prompts, like inspirational quotes to some of the pages? If there's a tutorial or video out there for that, I'd love to know. Thanks.
Thanks for the great video.
I didn't even know that we could edit pdfs without Adobe or Word conversion.
This is awesome and Affinity publisher is so affordable.
Many thanks 🙏🙏🙏🙏💐💐
You're welcome!
I have bought Affinity publisher after watching your videos.
Please keep posting.
Maybe a master class is in the oven?
Thank you 🙏 🙏 💐
Rachel, thankyou for your excellent videos. Can I just ask do say, mugs and t-shirts also have 8 browser categories?
I saw you in the Money mag article about KDP, congrats!
Thanks so much, Tye! Appreciate that!
Awesome video! Thanks! Is there a way to upload additional PDF's within this calendar that you created? For example, if I had a stand alone PDF that I wanted to incorporate within the calendar could I do that and then then export the whole doc?
You should be able to open up the additional PDF with Affinity and then take whichever elements you like from it and add it to the calendar. You should be able to just do a copy and paste.
Always great content. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience. In this video, you mentioned Copywrite information. When do you Copywrite your KDP creations? Is that a separate process like a Trademark or is your creation Copywrited automatically as your IP material? And do you always put a Copywrite info in your LC KDP? Thanks!!!
Thanks, Jack! Your book is automatically protected under copyright law once it's been published, so no further action is required. And yes, I always include copyright information in all of my books.
Are all PDFs editable because mine would not allow me to edit in AP? I followed your video, but it does not allow me to make any changes. Thanks for the videos!
Hi, I screenshot digital comics I’ve bought on comiXology and to used to edit / touch resize up them in Photoshop and then use Acrobat Pro to combine many comic jpg’s into one easy to read PDF file for home use. I’ve just replaced Photoshop with Affinity Photo, but can you tell me can Affinity Publisher combine many jpg files into one PDF like Acrobat Pro used to or do I need sone other Affinity product?
i love ur smile :)
Aw, thank you!
Thank you for all the great info! Hey-when I open pdfs in affinity it doesn't put a text box around text like yours did and I can't edit it. Do you know why that is?
It doesn't in mine either. When I click on the text it's an image, so I can't edit it.
Thanks for another great video. I am starting to like Affinity Publisher more and more, thanks to you :)
Just one small comment; if you are going to upload the exported pdf to KDP I believe you have to select all pages instead of all spreads.
You are right! Did I miss that? I hope not!
Anybody ever experience this- when I upload my PDF all the coloring designs are cut in half on the edge of the pages. I think it’s a margin/dimension problem in Affinity?
Hi Rachel, why does customising interiors matter when 80% of purchases on amazon use cell phone, which doesn't provide a 'look inside' feature?
It's helpful for brand building, and it's still important to differentiate your book as much as possible so it doesn't look like everyone else's.
I am working on Microsoft word The content has been saved in pdf format. Have you continued this way how. Thanks
If you open a PDF in Word, Word will convert the PDF into an editable Word doc. However, you will most likely lose a lot of formatting, as Word is not meant for desktop publishing; it's a word processing program.
@@RachelHarrisonSund I also use google drive to customize the pdf template, when i edit word to pdf template i lose a lot of book quality. Thank you for your answer
Great video, thank you. Where can I get templates from? Any recommended sources?
Hi Gary, I don't personally use templates, but you're welcome to join my free FB group and ask others who do. You can join here: facebook.com/groups/1317558588399004/
Affinity I bought but it is SOOOOOOO slow. Like 20 mins to open a document??? Why, its not my PC?
Where can I find templates for a newsletter etc.?
I'm not sure, Lawrence, as I don't use templates myself. I'd try Googling it.
@@RachelHarrisonSund OK Thanks. I found your CZcams channel and website while doing a Google search for templates. Applications like Apple's Pages have many 3rd party templates that can be customized. Kind of surprised since templates would be such a great launch point to make adjustments from.
Thanks for the feedback and tutorial. I'll checkout your other video tutorials.
Just for clarity - Cmd on Mac = Ctrl on PC. Also, there was no need to delete the pages just apply the new master to them.
Hi Roger, I realized that about the master pages AFTER I already recorded myself, haha. But good catch, you are absolutely correct! And thanks for clarification on the PC shortcut.
Hmm, It doesn't work for me. I uploaded a single page PDF to try and nothing is editable on the page. Publisher treats it like a single object.
Hi Ryan, have you tried ungrouping the object? I've noticed that everything is grouped together sometimes, so I need to ungroup it.
@@RachelHarrisonSund The ungroup option was not available for the PDF. The only thing I could do is Group.
I am using canva..
I don't think you can edit PDFs in Canva, unfortunately.
lol i feel bad for your keyboard wow
