Ceolskog - Mannen og Kråka (Kråkevisa) Norwegian Folk Song

- Norwegians, I hope you enjoy hearing your language in a New Zealand accent! This is a re-recording of my rock / metal rendition of "Krakevisa" (The Crow Song), also known as Bonden og Kråka (The Farmer and the Crow) and Mannen han gjekk seg i vedaskog (The man went into the firewood forest). It was requested by Ingebjørg from Norway - I had never heard it before she introduced it to me. The English chorus is my own creation, based on the song's apparent message and final verse. I originally recorded it in November 2016 (three years to the month from this updated version).
It is a widespread Norwegian name for a folk song and jocular ballad spread over all of Scandinavia. There are different versions in Norway, which also uses other melodies. Kråkevisa was sometimes sung by two people as a duel song, where the loser was the one who forgot the verses, or was not able to come up with new verses. Variants are also known in Danish, Faroese, and Swedish. Although the song is counted to the Scandinavian medieval ballads, it is still widely well-known, often as a song for children.

This is the first of your songs I hear. I understand from the comment section that you have a previous version. I came over your link from Arve Moen Bergset's rendition and thought that would be interesting to check out. Wow! I absolute love this! I love the Norwegian folk mixed with English. You made Mannen og kråka your own. Absolute fantastic!
We used to sing "Mannen og kråka" when we grew up. Since I am not that much of a singer except a few years in a local choir, I guess kids are more inspired to work their way through the whole song. Also kids remember the lyrics better. And you know. Kids just sing whenever it suit them.
Takk! Yes, I have a previous version but I only know a bit of Bokmål, and was told I was using the wrong dialect and almost sounded Danish. So I tried to copy closer to the dialect with this one, but it was quite difficult. This would be such a cool song to learn growing up as a child, I can just imagine singing it around a campfire in the Norwegian woods!
