E-Sky 300 V2 / Blade 150FX Review & Test Flight - Awesome Looking RC Helicopters.

  • The E-Sky 300 V2 (or Blade 150FX) fixed pitch RC helicopters are two of the best flying FP RC helis I've flown to date! They handle wind much better than most micro FP helicopters currently on the market thanks to the rotor blades and head speed.
Unlike most fixed pitch RC helicopters that use non-symmetrical high lift rotors; the E-Sky 300 V2 & Blade 150FX use symmetrical rotors like most collective pitch RC helicopters use. These blades are also spinning at higher head speeds. This combination gives the 300 V2 & 150FX cyclic response similar to collective pitch RC helicopters.
So what's the catch? Why don't all FP RC helicopters also use this blade design coupled with higher head speeds? Well, this more aggressive cyclic response will make the 300 V2 / 150FX harder to fly for newbies. Fixed pitch is where most newcomers to the world of RC helicopters get their start - the 300 V2 / 150FX is not ideally suited to them. It's also more complicated to work on with the fuselage over a simple pod & boom design.
It is however a perfect at home yard or indoor flyer for those that already have some RC helicopter flying experience and want a fixed pitch RC helicopter that has some wind handling ability.
The E Sky 300 V2 & Blade 150FX also look amazing! Two of the best looking fixed pitch micros currently on the market in my opinion with a streamlined F3C style fuselage in Airwolf livery on the 300VS and full red on the 150FX.
The E-Sky 300 V2 & Blade 150FX have well behaved flight characteristics thanks to an auto-level flybarless flight control system which goes a long way to tame it down. It's a pleasant and predicable little heli that isn't over powered and thanks to the innovative belt driven main rotor, is surprisingly quiet.
The E-Sky 300 V2 & Blade 150FX come as a ready to fly (RTF) package. The 300V2 comes in two versions - Mode 1 (throttle on the right) & Mode 2 (throttle on the left). Ensure you choose the correct version at time of checkout if you decide to get one. Both RTF versions are priced at around $150 USD and come with one LiPo flight battery. You'll also need 4-AA batteries for the radio/transmitter.

All that technology for just $160 US. Mind boggling. I am old enough to remember prices for rc helicopters in the 1980ies. What a difference. Another well done video, John. Thank you.

@@sed6 Yes, you are absolutely right. I do remember a set of wooden rotor blades for a Kalt Baron 60 cost $50 in 1982. In todays money that is $150. Hard to believe for younger folks today.

We are so spoiled in RC today, and people will still complain that various products are "overpriced". I'm a big user of 1.7g servos (about $4) which wouldn't even be in a lab at MIT back in the day.

I remember when only those who had building skills were flying and the rest were spectators. Now everyone with a credit card say that he is a modelist. Dangerous people, accidents, governments rules, death of rc modelism. I am happy that I lived the last years of pure modelism.

Interestingly, my kalt enforcer .30zr also had a hollow mast thru which the collective pitch mechanism was routed. Plus, the entire main gear system was fully enclosed in a plastic body. One negative of this was that there was extra drag from all those gears inside thus reducing power and the hollow mast didn't provide as much pitch as on conventional helis.

Really helpful video. I got mine and it looks and flies great. Beware that the mx 2.0 plug on other batteries usually have reversed polarity. Someone on the forums said they smoked the main board because of this. My new 300 v2 has a warning to only use genuine Esky batteries. Batteries are about impossible to find right now. Esky said they need a US and European distributor and the delivery airline is still down from the pandemic.

Back in '93 when I was getting into rc helis, if someone would have showed me this micro heli and said it was flyable, I would have told him he was nuts! The closest thing we had back then was kyosho concept 10 heli and that was orders of magnitude larger in size. It's incredible how everything shrunk down in size to allow this to happen. Simply incredible.

    • @Rchelicopterfun
      @Rchelicopterfun  Před 2 lety +1

@Richard C - I cover this question in detail on my website. These two pages specifically:
      www.rchelicopterfun.com/best-rc-helicopter.html
      www.rchelicopterfun.com/are-rc-helicopters-hard-to-fly.html
As those two pages point out - it totally depends how deep you want to jump into helis when getting started. Fixed wing time doesn't relate at all to heli flight with the exception of banking turns at speed. Quad copter time gives the same basic movements, but they are so easy to fly (especially the GPS ones) compared to a typical RC heli which is a constant balancing act. No question however quad time will help with the basics.
Anything with a fuselage should be avoided however for your first introduction to helis - they only complicate things, are more fragile & add extra weight. As I said in the video and if you take the time to study those pages on my website - always better to first learn on pod & boom regardless if it's fixed pitch or collective pitch (my opinion as an RC heli instructor & enthusiast).

First thing I noticed was how quiet it is. Very sleek profile too. John, I noticed you didn't take it apart prior to the flight, like you do on most micro helis. Any particular reason?

@Patrik - Mostly timing. If I would have done the teardown first, it would have been pretty dark out not to mention this is a mechanically simple fixed pitch heli and is not as critical if something is not put together at the factory correctly like it is on a collective pitch helicopter. 🙂

@@RchelicopterfunI always learn a thing or two when I watch a John Salt video, thanks. If you have a minute and don't mind. I'd like to ask you 2 quick questions.
      1. Do you fly full scale helicopters too?
      2. What part of the country do you live in? I just noticed the mountains in the background in this video. They're beautiful, and don't seem to far away from you. I'm a mountain guy myself, have been all my life. Best state I ever lived in was Montana. The only problem I had was that it was windy almost every single day. Cuts into your RC flight time :-)

@Patrick - 1. Nope - it was my plan in my 20's, but there were very few job prospects at the time. I cover the story and how I got into the hobby in more detail on my about me page on my website: www.rchelicopterfun.com/about.html
      2. Location - Rockies of BC Canada - near Mt. Robson/Valemount.

Great video. I’m going to order one now. Mode 2 means the lift and back down is on the left correct? Also before I buy could you link me where I can buy another battery for it please

Mode 2 = cyclic on the right stick, throttle & tail rotor on the left.

@Elpapi Grande - best to contact the vendor directly at time of purchase. There are no packs listed at this time as far as I know because it's such a new model.

@@Rchelicopterfun Got ya. Thank you. I found it weird that the seller told me that it would be delivered to me in two packages because the battery can’t be shipped with the helicopter because of shipping guidelines. Very weird

@@elpapigrande4035 Normally, at least in the US, all air shipped lithium batteries must be transported "Installed" in the device. Ground shipping it doesn't matter.
