    (EP. 110) Unpacking Black Masculinity And Hip Hop Culture(EP. 110)
    Hard to think of hip hop culture and not think about black men....
    Hip hop culture has been under scrutiny for its portrayal of hypermasculinity, often promoting aggressive behavior, objectifying women and taking shots at one another. This is a result of the industry's emphasis on power, dominance, and success, which can be seen as traits of toxic masculinity. Many artists use violent and derogatory lyrics in their songs, perpetuating harmful stereotypes and contributing to a culture that normalizes disrespect towards men and women.
    Moreover, beef or conflicts between artists are often glorified and sensationalized in the hip hop scene. This behavior not only promotes a false sense of toughness and dominance but also perpetuates the cycle of violence and aggression, leading to harmful consequences. J. Cole is almost viewed as weak, simply for apologizing about lyrics toward Kendrick Lamar he desired to retract.
    It is important for us to recognize these issues and hold ourselves accountable for perpetuating toxic masculinity. As consumers, we have the power to change what artists and music we support, artists who promote positive values and messages.
    In conclusion, hip hop culture should be more conscious of the impact it has on society and strive towards promoting a healthier and more inclusive form of masculinity. Thank you for watching, let us know your thoughts on this topic in the comment section below.

    If HipHop is drowning, I’m saving Cole. I know I’ll get fed with some knowledge that I didn’t even know. Plus he’ll give a positive outlook on life as an adult. Much respect to Cole.

    I would say, Kendrick would save hip-hop. Not only does he have great delivery and is a wordsmith, he is a creative mastermind. His catalog flexes the diversity of hip-hop genre. He can be a storyteller, he could chop your head off with lyrics, and he brings honesty to everything he writes. Whether it was section 80 or to pimp a butterfly. Plus, he has amazing producers behind him that are great at developing. And as a Gemini, you know all of his visuals hit. And as somebody from Compton, I’mma be biased towards my mans even though as college student J. Cole really spoke to me. If it wasn’t for Kendricks bad deal I think we wouldn’t having this conversation. but not gonna lie, I wish these three would just get along because they’re all necessary in this space.

    Drake is trying to make this about rap and it’s about his character. We don’t trust you because you are untrustworthy and steal from the pot more than give. You’re apart of the system and the problem. We still don’t trust you because you aren’t like that. The message was clear. Drake is the one making everyone debate the rap part, mainly because it gives him the upper hand.

      I feel like Drake doesn't have good character. Think about it, how you been around this long this rich and successful, but none of the top women in the music industry, in any other industry, want to be with you... couldn't have Rihanna, Megan Thee Stallion dissing you hard asl, never wanted you like that,,, who has he been with? Now all your past homies not messing with you? Idk maybe he's the problem. Part 2 let's talk about it.

      @@kelyceallen2693 Drake is not RESPECTED esp. in hip-hop circles and that bothers him. Considering he got his come-up in hip-hop and established his base within the hip-hop community, his brand has taken a hit for his sensitivity, his lack of socially aware content, his tough guy posturing against the backdrop of his privleged upbringing. As a big artist, he could ignore all of that, but he still parties and walks in spaces that other rappers are in and I can bet he can sense and feel the disrespect and contempt. it's an attempt on his part to help validate his place in hip-hop IMO because even though he makes pop records, he is very much a rapper as well.

    I thought it was weird that Cole waited to delete the track after his album did the first week numbers… his actions don’t match his words at all.
    Hip Hop is a bastard sport. Most rappers don’t have father figures at all so it’s always going to be very quick escalations.
    A lot of people have beef with Drake because he will subliminally diss rappers and only those rappers know that he’s talking to them and he dissed Rihanna on fear of heights which is why rocky responded. Drake is really good at throwing rocks and hiding his hand
    Drake would save hip hop in a gentrified way that would influence others to niche down from it. Drake is too consistent as well even though he’s more pop than rap

    • @jman1562001
      @jman1562001 Před měsícem

      TBH it's not BEEF between J Cole and Kendrick. More so an opportunity for lyrical jousting that Cole passed up. No one disagrees with why he did, but questions the motives for putting out a "diss" record and not following thru. IMO he fell for the hype, did not get the reaction he thought he was going to get, and was not thinking in the moment. Kendrick has had a long standing issue with Drake for being sensitive and therefore has lost a degree of respect for him. Their is tension with Drake among other rappers because they don't RESPECT him. For as big as a pop/rapper that he has become he still seeks the validation of his hip-hop peers. I think he does that for the validation of his accomplishments in the hip-hop genre.

    Kendrick is a RAPPER not a lyricist. He is not exceptional at METAPHORICAL ABILITY, he raps fast and is great with Alliteration but not Entendres and Metaphors… Drake will Smoke him when it comes to ACTUAL BARS. If you wanna battle on who raps the fastest and says a bunch of words together; Kendrick winning that against anyone except Twista, Eminem, and Tory Lanez
